Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games.

If 2 was your favorite in the series, or you just somehow enjoy unsatisfying endings, then you'll like this one. The art is decent and the voice-acting is good for the most part. However, the ending is worse than 2's (something inane about "chasing past glory" and "just a tale to entertain a child") and many plot threads are left unfinished. I also found the puzzles to be rather bland, and Guybrush was even more of a sociopath than usual. That latter bit is commented on, but never resolved. 3 (Curse) and 5 (Tales) were my favorites, where you actually felt like you were on a stupid adventure and playing an adventure game, not experiencing someone else's midlife crisis. If you feel the same, avoid this trash heap. 3/7 on my rating scale, but only that high because of the art and voice-acting.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Doesn't work on Steam Deck. I get black screen only. I can't get a refund either.
Fazit: Was bleibt also zurück?
I think the writer got fed up half way through and just gave up.
It's not the worst Monkey Island game, but it is the second worst. It leans WAY too hard on nostalgia, but just ends up reminding you of better games.
The artwork is fine, I didn't mind at all. But the story is far from being a MI game. I know people are supposed to change through time, different ideas and point of views as well. However, I was expecting something completely different, more pirate and less infantile. Curse of Monkey Island is so much better and fun than this game. Maybe the good ideas for this game were lost throughout time.
While the game IS enjoyable, I can't say I enjoyed the ending. Meta is not really my cup of tea.
I finished it three hours ago. Just... don't. Monkey Island 1 and 2 are worthwhile games, with meticulously crafted details in both story and graphics; this is the fruit of laziness, and it shows most in Acts 4 and 5. If you don't mind spoilers, this four-year-old Reddit thread explains everything much better than I can now: https://www.reddit.com/r/adventuregames/comments/1b0oal7/was_anyone_else_extremely_disappointed_with_the/
