About
You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you will need to find food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours which threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before something makes a meal of you!
Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires clever decision-making, both to catch your own prey and to avoid the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!

Eu amei.

Every market we collect.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Intimate Shorthand
There will be a TL;DR at the end. ~ This is a horrible videogame. It is bad on so many levels, and after playing for awhile I don’t believe anyone in the review section here is speaking honestly. Everything that folks say they love about this game is a lie - I’m not sure how much of it is fluff, but it seems like much of it is misguided. You will see many reviews here practically groveling before this piece of art and explain it in mechanical or objective perspectives - that the ecosystem is unique, that the visuals are fantastic, that it’s really detailed and super deep, or that the story is incredible and life changing. All completely misguided. While the ecosystem is robust and interesting, and the graphics are nice - it’s pretty but nothing super special by any means. It’s not mechanically unique. The story is probably the weakest aspect of the title - with lots of plot holes, incongruities, and poetic overtures that fail to mask a freshman’s exploration of nihilism. And everyone, even the hardcore fans, admit that the movement system is really janky and weird - far from smooth (your first couple hours will be just learning how to move) Do not believe anything the people here say. This is a horrible videogame that hardly works, makes no sense, and is not designed to be enjoyed by human beings. You also have to play it. I’m not kidding. The thing that makes this thing such a unique experience is hard to describe with terms we are all familiar with using for silly videogames as a medium. That’s because this isn’t really a videogame per-se, that’s not really what makes the experience worthwhile. What makes Rain World stand out - why I believe so many folks love it so much and struggle to put that passion into words - is the experience’s ability to forge an intimate connection with the player. What Rain World has to offer isn’t a mechanical product, an objective focused adventure, it is a relationship. ~ There is something in relationships called shorthand. It’s when you don’t really need to say the whole thing outloud, but through gestures, memetics, and something as simple as a look - you and your partner can communicate complex ideas to one another. When the two of you are in the kitchen working on a meal, shorthand is how you both get into a flow state where without words you’re exchanging utensils and covering one another’s positions. It’s how you and your long time coworker can tackle big projects without stepping on one another’s toes. Even cleaning can be a task where working with someone close can lead to using shorthand with them effortlessly, without words, to get into a flow. That’s the thing that Rain World has to offer - and it’s beautiful - although there is a major catch. When relationships start, we are not designed as individuals to fall into the deeply personal intimacy of working shorthand; in the beginning, we are called upon to communicate (and even overcommunicate) to be open and honest with those that we are starting out with - it is only through layers and layers of communication that we can find ourselves in a place where such effortful, diligent talks can give way to a deeper understanding that moves beyond words. There will come a time when you can feel your partner’s heartbeat by being still beside them, there will come a time when your ears can identify their breathing from across the flat, the day will come when you will know their thoughts without looking at their face and know the weight of their eyes even when your back is turned … but you can’t expect these things the very first second that you meet someone. It would be insane to expect someone to read your thoughts, flow with you, and correctly anticipate your next move when they are a stranger. It would be moronic to go into a relationship expecting it to blossom and grow while you refuse to communicate - but this is the relationship that Rain World has to offer. It does not communicate with the player, but demands - and eventually commands - an unspoken shorthand. You’re not supposed to feel in control, which turns the otherwise blissful intimacy into a toxic relationship to a certain perspective. Rain World is apathetic to you as a player - which is both its primary selling point and its biggest drawback - to have the pleasure of interacting with it, you must do everything "the right way" but it will never tell you how to do it. While some of the intimacy is best experienced firsthand, players will be absorbing it socially. At some point you're not intended to play this game by itself anymore, you're intended to have a wiki open and be referencing it religiously - or have a friend leering over your shoulder and talking you through things that, if it was just you and the program, would never have occurred to you. It’s like asking your partner’s friends and family to help you understand them because you’re lost on your own. ~ The opposite side of the intimacy coin is the question “why”. Just because you and another person have an intimate connection does not mean that the relationship will last - because there is a question that must be satisfied to make that intimacy work: "Why am I doing this?" With Rain World It's easy at first to think "Because I want to!" - and that can sometimes be enough at the beginning; motivating yourself and set small, silly tasks - But when the childish wonder starts to fade away and the clunky, unfair world starts to chafe, this gnawing "why" turns into a depreciating echo that fades away completely. Rain World doesn't have a “why”. It doesn't tell you what you're doing, where you're going, how you're going to get there, and it certainly doesn't want to give you any reasons. Rain World shows up to the date without saying a word the entire night and never giving you a reason to keep trying to learn what’s going on in its head. To many, being on a date with someone who refuses to communicate - who prefers you ask their friends and family for advice instead of them directly, and who fundamentally doesn’t care if things work out between the two of you - would be a turn off and they’d leave in a hurry. That’s why many folks who pick up the game figure out it isn’t for them and leave, even though it’s hard to explain why. On the other side, if you stick to it and put up with the apathy of the date, you dig in and start truly unraveling their thoughts, you can enter a flow state with them that nothing beats. With time, patience, and dedication a player grows entangled with Rain World to such a degree where watching gameplay of others, and yourself, transfigures from clunky confusion into a rhythmic dance with quirks, gaffs, events, and little victories along the way. It’s not for everyone - it’s not for most - because it is a bad, bad videogame. But you certainly should give it a shot, because it’s the only game I’ve played that puts its cards on the table in the opening moments and lets you know what it’s all about, and exactly the kind of dance you will both be doing once words are done away with and nuance blooms into trust. ~
TL;DR
6.5/10 Rain World is a Well Made game. For a videogame it’s absolutely terrible, and for an experience it’s certifiably toxic. It isn’t for everyone, but there isn’t quite anything else like this out there. This is an experience that invites you to grow beside it in intimacy - and that’s well worth looking into, especially if this is your cup of tea.
