In Railway Empire, you will create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modelled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition.

Fighting controls and trying to work out illogical tracklaying isn't my idea of fun
Worst tutorial I've seen in a game, especially one this complicated. When I googled how to do a basic task that the tutorial explained poorly, the devs literally replied to someone asking the same question with: Go watch this hour long YouTube video made by a fan of the game. All I want is a relaxing train management game where I get to watch cool trains do their job. This game doesn't even have a follow cam. What kind of train game doesn't have a follow cam? It's like the trains don't even matter.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

There are different techniques that can be developed to play this game, which causes me to use my thinking ability to come up with the best way to play the game. After many hours spent I am still developing different approaches. The best I have done so far is Railroad Engineer which is still aways from President.
Not going to lie- the clunky, complicated UI and the poor explanations surrounding what SHOULD be simple tasks/clicks is problem enough. Being penalized for daring to want to PAUSE while not knowing what to do is like a cherry on the turd. The fact that the "advisors" you can play as all have various jabs to insult you while you're trying to figure things out had me hitting the refund button faster than a Pinkerton could kill a hardworking kid in coal mine.
I tried. Over and over. I just don't like the balance of it. I feel like each touch can HUGE changes. The cost to build rain can be adjusted wildly by moving the track a few feet one way or the other. Want to make a cool big circle. HUGE cost. Want a mess of lines with no organazation, cheaper to build. You can't make a true system of rails unless your in sandbox.
I finished everything that could be done, got all the achievements, and in the end, I feel like someone who has finished tedious work, household chores and lost pleasure halfway. Masochist. Yes. But when you like to finish a job, you're always masochistic in a way... The logistical issue makes no sense, especially for a logistician like me. Transport costs (distance, travel difficulties, supply/demand, availability of means of transport, etc.) are not really taken into account. It is a flat economy, with a heavy signalling and routing system. Management is too timed. You don't think and manage carefully, you rush through gestural mechanisms and habits. Cities do not develop in proportion to the economic context, the network and its use. Managing a large network and many trains is a pain in the neck... It has a terribly clunky user interface. I couldn't even pass the first tutorial with ease and pleasure... The worst part is that when you go to talk pages, you are told that there are "many, many other threads" talking about signal problems. And when you look at the signal guide, you wonder if you end up in a game where torture and psychological nightmare are in order... Oh! It's pretty, and the overall idea is nice. But no: I definitely prefer, by far, the 4 games I've played since the 90s: Railroad Tycoon, Railroad Tycoon Deluxe, Railroad Tycoon II, Railroad Tycoon 3 and of course Sid Meier's Railroads! With all its maps and scenarii... I continue to search/hope/wish to see Railroad Tycoon 5 one day... I don't know if I'll try the next Railway Empire 2: I'll read the negative reviews carefully before (negative reviews are usually more informative of flaws, and warn of things that kill your pleasure...). Or play Open Rails (it's a projet.org).
Very high production budget for visuals and sound, very poor execution on the technical side of things in terms of UI/UX, functionality, track placement and gameplay.
This game is quite bad, not good enough to be enjoyable. It could have been great but fail in many aspect. The user interface is extremely bad and require a lot of extra clicks to perform simlple action. The developer thought it was a good idea to lock PAUSING the game behind a game option that reduce your score at the end of the game. Do you have someone at your door or something urgent to do in real life? Tough luck, you better enter build mode or the menu to pause the game. Do you need a bit more time to read some info as it is not in your native language or you suffer from dyslexia? Tough luck, the game keep running in the background. Add to that the fact that the AI just randomly speak to you every few minutes to interrupt your train of thought and you'll end up with an extremely annoying game. Oh, and DLC galore of course.... Anyway, I skip the obvious: train routing is quite bad, economy is bonkers, etc...
This is a magnificent resource management game. Clever historical tasks and settings add depth and context. Highly recommended, but... Warning to new players - especially to those crossing over from Railroad Tycoon who provide so many of the negative comments! There is a learning curve for switch placement and station platform management. This time investment is required to play, and, once mastered, these elements are why RE is such a deeply satisfying experience.
