Rabbit Hole 3D: Steam Edition is an endless runner where you dodge words/letters and spell out words from Alice in Wonderland's first chapter, with minimalist low poly 3D graphics. I don't know what's wrong with some developers that they think this kind of thing is okay. It's a terrible idea for a game. Endless runner games aren't even a good idea to begin with. "Why not take Temple Runner", they said, "and remove all the nice graphics and sensible premise for the game and replace it with a bunch of words from a book that nobody who would play the game has ever read anyway". Then, they took more drugs, and slapped a $4.50 price tag on it. To the developers: Tweedle-don't.

Music is catchy, but the camera angle sucks. Movement is clunky. The whole thing is frustrating.
Rabbit Hole 3D: Steam Edition, developed by Somi and published by Zero Rock Entertainment, is a minimalist and surreal puzzle experience that takes one of literature’s most famous scenes—Alice’s tumble into Wonderland—and reimagines it as a fast-paced, spatial, and abstract challenge. Instead of literal storytelling or visual adaptation, the game interprets Lewis Carroll’s text through motion and structure, turning the words themselves into the environment. What might sound like a gimmick at first becomes a surprisingly hypnotic experience, one that demands precision, focus, and rhythm rather than traditional puzzle-solving skills. At its core, Rabbit Hole 3D revolves around the idea of navigating through the physical form of words. The player controls a small cube that travels through three-dimensional spaces built from the letters and sentences of the first chapter of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Each word becomes an obstacle, a gate, or a pathway. You must steer carefully through the gaps between letters as they rush toward you, avoiding collisions while maintaining momentum. The concept blends the mechanics of an endless runner and a reflex-based puzzle game, challenging players to survive increasingly complex sequences. It’s deceptively simple in structure but quickly becomes a test of coordination and concentration, especially as the pace accelerates and the level design grows more intricate. The visual design embraces a clean, retro aesthetic—geometric and minimalist, yet expressive enough to evoke the surreal quality of Carroll’s original tale. The world is built from bold lines, floating letters, and abstract shapes that stretch and fold in perspective as you move through them. This creates a disorienting yet captivating sense of depth, giving the impression of falling endlessly through language itself. The visual rhythm, combined with the game’s smooth transitions and fluid camera movement, generates a dreamlike sensation that mirrors the descent into Wonderland. The color palette and lighting are used sparingly but effectively, maintaining visual clarity while enhancing the sensation of velocity and immersion. Sound plays an equally important role in defining the atmosphere. The soundtrack, composed of electronic and chiptune-inspired beats, complements the kinetic energy of the gameplay while maintaining a steady, trance-like quality that keeps players focused. There’s also an audio reading of the text from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which adds an almost meditative layer to the chaos. The juxtaposition of calm narration and frantic gameplay creates a unique tension—an auditory reminder that you’re not simply playing a reflex game, but participating in an interpretive experience where words themselves become part of the challenge. Despite its creativity, Rabbit Hole 3D can be polarizing. The concept is fascinating, but the execution demands precision that may frustrate players unprepared for its unforgiving design. The cube’s movement feels smooth but sensitive, and the hit detection leaves little room for error. The result is a game that feels punishing at times, especially when progressing through later levels where the density of letters and obstacles increases dramatically. Some players may find themselves overwhelmed by the repetition or the lack of variation in gameplay mechanics, as the experience leans heavily on reflex and pattern recognition rather than puzzle complexity or exploration. The camera angles can also make navigation disorienting, and for those sensitive to motion, the rapid shifts in perspective might induce mild dizziness or fatigue. The game’s structure reinforces its arcade nature rather than offering a traditional progression system. There are achievements, leaderboards, and scoring elements that encourage replayability, but the main appeal lies in mastery rather than discovery. Once the core mechanics are grasped, the challenge becomes one of endurance and precision—pushing yourself to navigate the increasingly chaotic flow of text without error. This design choice positions Rabbit Hole 3D more as an experimental art piece than a narrative experience, and that distinction defines its appeal. Those drawn to its conceptual novelty and minimalist presentation will appreciate its purity of design, while others seeking story-driven engagement or varied mechanics may find it limited in scope. As a piece of interactive art, however, the game succeeds brilliantly in transforming literature into motion. There’s something inherently poetic about physically moving through the words of Carroll’s text, as if embodying Alice’s own tumble through nonsense and logic. The way the letters bend space and form impassable barriers feels metaphorical, suggesting how language itself can be both a structure and a maze. This interpretive quality gives Rabbit Hole 3D a deeper resonance than its simple mechanics might suggest. It’s a game that blurs the line between reading and playing, turning the act of comprehension into an act of navigation. Ultimately, Rabbit Hole 3D: Steam Edition is a niche but memorable experience. It’s brief, challenging, and unapologetically abstract, but it also offers a rare fusion of literature, art, and gameplay that few titles attempt. Its flaws—repetition, sharp difficulty curve, and minimalist presentation—are balanced by its originality and conceptual strength. It’s not a game that tells a story so much as it lets you fall through one, translating the whimsical absurdity of Carroll’s imagination into a series of geometric trials. For players who enjoy experimental design and are willing to embrace a bit of frustration in exchange for a unique sensory experience, Rabbit Hole 3D stands as a small but significant gem in the world of indie art games. Śmieszna gierka, kierujemy spadającym kwadracikiem, którym musimy unikać przeszkód. Dochodzi do tego świetna muzyczka i wersy z "Alicji w Krainie Czarów". Niestety szybko się nudzi :p
