You are Ranger, a warrior armed with a powerful arsenal of weapons. The best $10 you'll ever spend on Steam. Seriously, this remaster is fantastic in ways that bring classic Quake neck-and-neck with modern titles. Let's go over exactly what you're getting, and hopefully it'll convince you to dive into what I consider an essential purchase. -The original Quake campaign's 4 episodes- 30 levels. -The fantastic Scourge of Armagon pack's 3 episodes- 18 levels. -The cult classic Dissolution of Eternity pack's 2 episodes- 16 levels. -The modern continuation, Dimension of the Past's 10 levels. -The second part to the modern continuation, Dimension of the Machine's 12 levels. -And the latest 30th anniversary pack, Dawn of the Machine's massive 19 levels (With metaprogression and NG+!) (The raw level count includes Hubs and secret levels.) -Also packed in is full online multiplayer support, complete with a server browser and no-hassle lobby creation. You can run public or code-based private lobbies off NightDive's servers instead of trying to set up your own from scratch... which is a huge deal for a game this old. Multiplayer modes include classic TDM, DM, CTF, a full Co-Op mode for every previously mentioned campaign, and a Horde mode. -Plenty of modern accessibility settings including full no-hassle bind reassignment, HUD customization, and comfort options like a weapon wheel if you aren't confident in memorizing the number keys. -A full refresh of the game's graphics, remaining faithful while upping fidelity and resolutions. -On top of that is an entire vault of concept art, interviews, and playable pre-release demos and playtests. The last thing really worth mentioning is the incredibly active modding scene. Quake is known for its easy modding and insane quantity of high-quality user made content... you can easily double or triple your playtime exploring impressive full conversion campaigns, map packs, and gamejam packs. TLDR. Play it.
Always loved Quake since the day it came out which I bought at that time. It's great seeing it continue on with remasters but this new expansion isn't very good honestly and is kind of a let down but it's at least something compared to what became of Quake with Quake II and III which I never liked. Quake became a Doom clone with the Strogg (stroganoff anyone?). Dropping the medieval mythos of the first was always a mistake in my opinion when I bought Quake II on release. I hope id software revisits the original Quake universe one day.
Absolute quality remaster for my favorite grungy, dark and atmospheric childhood Boomshoot that also gives you the option to play the unenhanced original whilst adding not only the original two mission packs but a bunch of new ones (that I haven't played yet at the time of this review, might update it when I do), 'nuff said 10/10
