Persona 4 is a gem. One of my top 3 games of all time for sure. It seems old because of the graphics (remake coming) but don't get fooled. GAMEPLAY: So Persona games are divided into 2 things: 1. Dungeons, catching personas, fighting bosses etc. 2. Talking with people, going around the town and doing side quests and those sort of things. When it comes to dungeons, the beginning was rough for me but maybe it was a skill issue. Overall dungeons are good and they have different mechanics. Bosses are balanced (maybe except one). You can/will grind for a bit and then its an awesome experience (you can also boost how much exp you get in settings for it, if you don't want to spend A LOT of time grinding). When it comes to social life/talking with people, here's where Persona 4 shines. Characters models don't open mouth so they need to use their body to express emotions and how they feel - and this game is amazing at that. I mean, really, character acting is top tier, VA made really good job, jokes are funny etc etc. Music is gorgeous and really memorable 11/10. I really enjoy "Tanaka's Amazing Commodities" music (the one that plays when you buy 1 of 2 things in a specific tv program) and boss battle music in secret dungeon (after or in winter (I don't remember)). Also Igor (the nose guy) VA is the best one in this game from the series, in Persona 5 its different because he died (R.I.P). PLOT: Without spoilers, we travel to Inaba and when we get there, a series of "random" and mysterious murders is taking place. We learn about our new abilities (going through TV screen) and with that power we want to fight the murderer and bring peace. CONS: I have one con only but it may be a BIG one for some people. When you want to do dungeons (around 11 floors at the beginning and more later) you get a save only in a specific floor. Now here's how it looks -> You start the dungeon at floor 1, you clear it to some point so let's say around floor 5 or 6 you want to save and quit the game, well, unlucky for you, you can't do that. Now you probably ask huh? or why? BECAUSE when you leave at your own, the dungeon will reset, again to floor 1 and you have to clear it all over (which takes hours). There are checkpoints as I said but they look like this: If I'm not mistaken, first dungeon is 11 or 12 floors, there is an automatic save at floor 10, so when you leave, you can start from floor 1 or floor 10 as you like - and that's it. They made manual checkpoints in other, newer games like Persona 5 and maybe they will change it in the remake, but yeah that's how it is (or maybe I'm dumb and there was a way to save it but I tried different ways and none works). CONCLUSION / TL;DR: I recommend it 100%. Best one of the series.
