Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.29/day in the week to Aug 10 → 5.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
From Obsidian, this game is a historical narrative-driven game focusing on character development, heavily stylized art, and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Bavaria. Players will play as Andreas Maler, a clever illustrator caught up in a series of murders in Tassing and Kiersau Abbey over the course of twenty five years. Players will be responsible for conducting their own investigation to decide the fate of the community, but each decision will have lasting consequences and inexorably draws Andreas closer to the center of an underlying conspiracy.
Experience 16th century Europe as the master artists of the time saw them. Art inspired by great illuminated manuscripts and the earliest printed books becomes a living, breathing world in Pentiment.
Choose different academic and social backgrounds and meet a colorful cast of characters as you discover the stories and secrets that lie within the small Bavarian town of Tassing and nearby Keirsau Abbey.
In an era of great religious and political change, each decision you make can have a profound impact on the community’s future. Find your own way through this turbulent time and see the consequences of your choices play out over generations.

Reviews
Without a doubt, the best written video game I have ever played.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 23: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Prowling Through Tassing: A Lifelong Journey
It is a game FAR beyond expectation at my first gaze and eventually turned to became one of the best artworks I have ever experienced even until now. I wrote down this recommendation after my replay one year after my first completion, to pay all the respect to it, to every developer behind it, and to Andreas and Magdalene whose fate or so-called providence I somehow determined.
On the Story
It was the labyrinth in the library book that raised my judgement on the game for the first time. I luckily read The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco and watched the film adaptation of the same name made in 1986 before knowing this game, and these were also of high recommendation to anyone who want to go deeper into this game. Actually, the book can be treated as a prototype, a solution or a destination to the labyrinth that was plotted in the game.
So it was not that much of a shock for me to witness the library and the scriptorium ending up in the fire, and Andreas or Caspar who died saving the books from the flame. Still, I have to admit, that I trembled witnessing the flame swallow the treasure of the Kiersau, twice, as always.
The game really goes deep to unfold a Renaissance or better say Reformation culture, lifestyle and conflicts like a panoramic scroll
or mural
in Tirol or in south Bavaria. I used to be astonished on how vivid and imaginative the sceneries the game created. However, after a year studying abroad in England,
or so-called Wanderjahre in the game to some degree,
I realized it reflected the true life like what Brother Piero in the game indicated. What is quite ironic for me is that
Father Thomas
is telling a truth that people somehow can learn the truth from untruth. I mean, the story of Tassing is nothing more than fiction, but we players still can take it seriously, praising that it convinced us to believe in the real lifestyle is as it appears in the game at that time. Following I will go deeper to the story but not guarantee to pentimento every spoiler. The game really put players into predicament since you have to decide where to go and who to dine with to find the murderer in the former two acts, and the narration of the town in the last act. Because the time is limited for the actions, so it is impossible, from my perspective, to dig out enough evidence for each suspect.
I also read a discussion on reddit saying every suspect might join to murder the baron, in the style of Murder on the Orient Express.

But if proceeding to the act 3, you will be revealed that those choices are not that much matters.
And who you sentence to death will affect the relations in town and abbey in the following acts.
I chose Prior Ferenc and Hanna in my first play. I did not like Prior’s behavior and his attitude towards me, but I found him actually could turn into a modest or nice person later in my replay this time. Hanna was the most suspicious to me in act 2 and made more sense on running to mill after my second play, but she still could be a nice person if survived. In my replay I chose widow Ottilia and Guy. I knew Lucky could be more suspicious, but I just wanted to leave Agnes with her husband, so l deliberately turned a blind eye to that and convinced myself to murder the widow will do less harm to the town and the abbey. And I chose Guy since I did not want another life from the peasants’ side or two women in a row, which might sound like hunting witchcraft or Malleus Maleficarum, and I forgot anything mercy towards Guy and happened not to choose anything related to French. I just did not care who I would murder actually. I realized that it is the game writer who put the players into these moral dilemmas. I was sad about what I had to do, but blame myself not and just accept the result. Besides, there is a new achievement for it, isn’t it? And as the game conveys all the time that truth can be faint from time to time.

On the Developers
I want to praise the writer and the artist. I recently learned that Josh Sawyer who led the pen for the story is such a prestigious writer. As a new D&D fan, I did hear about the old famous Icewind Dale computer game he participated. I don’t think I would try that any soon, but I hope I can run the tabletop one someday. Sawyer and the team made a fantastic work for the dialogs and lyrics, with all the history facts, Roman proverb, novel stories, humorous and pathos. And I do enjoy the painting style created, as well as the music. That is why I somehow concern this game great artwork – perfect combination of those arts. The dialogs rendered in different calligraphic styles are undoubtedly a crucial feature of the game indicating the personality of their speakers. It is a great pity that the Chinese localization did not keep that feature well especially since Chinese culture is renowned for its calligraphic tradition. But I understand the difficulty, but the translation is sometimes not ideal. Therefore I would recommend playing the English version. I do wish I someday were able to replay with German version, since the wordplay
between Rot and Vögel
in the baron's name
Rothvogel
becomes much more apparent in the original language.
In Closing...
I have always wanted to replay the game, but it took me a whole year before I decided to face the epic providence and destiny of Tassing once more. Undoubtedly, the game haunted in my head and influenced my taste in other games and the arts. My soul is deemed to prowl and linger in Tassing for many years to come. P.S. This stuff is far easier than the engineering dissertation I have to tackle right now. qwq
If I'm going play a murder mystery, I would like to be able to actually solve the murder. It turns out that the game is written so that you can never be sure who did it. This, in combination with hand holding during puzzles and the use of the illusion of choice made me lose interest after act 1. I'd rather read an actual book.
I can't say that the narrative experience of Pentiment is "good for a video game," because that's selling it way, way short. This is not a simplified, archetypal fable that makes serviceable garnish for fun game mechanics. And I can't say that the narrative experience of Pentiment is "as good as any great novel" because that, too, is selling Pentiment way short. This is not a well-written story with some light interactivity sprinkled along the margins. No, Pentiment is a narrative experience that needed to be, that could only be, delivered in an interactive medium. The themes of guilt, regret, and redemption could only resonate so strongly when experienced in the first person as a result of choices you actually made yourself. The many well-researched details that make Pentiment's world feel so specific and lived-in are not just historical trivia, but the myriad pieces of context informing brutally difficult decisions that you, the player, have to make. Pentiment asks how we construct history, how we define justice, how we maintain community, how we can bear the weight of regret. It asks these questions in interesting ways in a setting that feels rich and alive, giving you a privileged perspective into one small community progressing (and regressing!) over time. It's going to feel, at times, like a lighthearted adventure game. And then it's suddenly going to feel very different. After the credits roll, some of its most vivid moments are going to linger in your memory for years to come.
