I want to update this review to address some of the feedback others have mention as i feel its very misleading Is it a good game? Some nice ideas, dungeon areas feel very engaging, lots of dangerous mobs, death penalty is harsh but not dramatically so, you don't have to run back naked. There isn't a huge amount of content, more is on the way but expect content updates to be slow. The focus remains on rehashing combat, that still has a way to go but you need to be of the mind set that they are trailing different things to get it to where they want it to be and some of the changes can feel harsh & frustrating. Whats this Dev favouritism about? To sum it up, Its nonsense, the "evidence" i came across was a joke by one of the devs. but the fun police took this the wrong way and so the devs put a stop to the community interaction. The same people are now complaining that there is less communication, so good job there... Now lets speculate for a moment that they did spawn a mob or 2 for some player (or whatever the current conspiracy is), which is unlikely. What effect would this situation actually have had, we are not talking about raid mobs here, the game doesn't have any yet. This is not a live game, people are treating it as such, and if you play this game you should understand that you are essentially a Tester, that gets to play the game early with all the Pro's and Con's with that. Lets think logically for a moment, even if they were working with some random guild on a server they would only do so to gain information and improve the game as a whole and everything will get reset anyway, sadly people cant look at the big picture in most situation. is it worth it? The price per hour is cheap, very cheap, compared to most forms of entertainment. Starting now would be rough with such a small player base so i would only recommend a fresh start server and ideally starting with a friend of 2 as all the rest have a borked economy with a high level player base and would not be a good experience levelling. Playing key role classes like tank, healer or enchanter does mitigate the /LFG issue but will not solve it. Overall they are doing some good work but its a small team (not a AAA studio) that don't have all their ideas fleshed out so changes to classes/loot etc can happen and feel dramatic for a week or 2 until they fix the numbers etc. There is a good deal of fun to be had but it will be limited by the available content which should last you a few months if you want to see it all and get most of the shiny loots... So If you want to support this games development, or some friends to play it with and scratch that mmo itch, then yes it could be a nice game to play.
Im having lots of fun its very related to everquest 1 and people are realy helpfull and friendly looks like it got a nice comunity. I also like that the game offer lots of oportunity to help other players with buff , with gettings corpse back, rezzing, or just giving directions when you get lost you will doo that
First off, I do recommend this game but if you are wanting a finished product this is not it. I am recommending the potential but I also recommend waiting until the game is a bit more polished. I haven't played this game as much as others but with the 10ish hours I have played, it made me feel like I was playing something between a mix of early 2000s MMO mixed with Ultima Online. - The early game is not fun and that is what makes it fun. It is a bit of a struggle if you are jumping in alone, but if you are being helped by someone, it will make the early game feel very different. - The Music is awesome, man I love the music in the game so far, it does have a very melodic feel and I think it is one of the best aspects of the game so far. - Classes are a bit weird and the visuals look someone dated. I was able to play it fine but my GPU was running pretty loud for the visual I had on screen. Some optimization is definitely welcome. - Early Access? It is definitely not ready for 1.0, I haven't played the game in a few months but from what I have been following, there have been updates. I want to get back into the game, but one big issue with MMO's is that if there are no players, there is no M in the MO and it really makes the game feel empty. The game would have been great as a 1-4 RPG adventure, but as an MMO it feels quite empty. My final though is that I want this game to succeed, but the MMO genre is not what it used to be. Having players and developers who want to be the next wow, eq, ff14, etc is always going to hurt the genre. Back when wow launched it was nothing what it is now and definetly not what it was at it's peak. But making a great game that is fun for its community and does not tailor to the casual or p2w players is a great goal and I wish Pantheon success!
Reminiscent of Original Everquest from 1999.
My most played title of 2025, and I really only played during the months around the initial launch on Steam—but it got its grasp on me hard and really rekindled the memories of playing EverQuest decades ago. It genuinely gave you that feeling of risk, uncertainty, and exploration. I want to give the game another playthrough, potentially after the next wipe or possibly if and when Bard is released, but there's some hesitancy. I found that during the initial launch, to be successful you had to find a static group to be able to progress from the level 20s onward. On one hand, it's awesome to have a static group and form a bond with strangers working toward a shared goal. On the other hand, it's a bit rough, as you find yourself logging on earlier to make it into the group on time or not miss some other event—and just trying to find a group and be successful through public channels was grueling. I wish the development team the best, and I'm sure they're working on ways to improve the experience for all, but striking the correct balance will be interesting to see.
Very slow, very unforgiving - I missed out on the EQ days but from what I've been told and what I know of EQ, this hits the same mark. It's a great game. It's very social, very grindy and very sandboxy. If that's what you're looking for, it's your game!
This game is EQ1 with climbing. I absolutely love it. If you're someone who played a zillion hours of Everquest and have been trying to find something to scratch that very particular itch, this game is for you. If you are looking for a modern MMO experience with things like general quality of life features and quest markers, this is likely not for you but may be a fun detour if you're curious as to what online games were like in the late 90s.
