Unplayeble as of 2026. Constant crashes on loading. If you do manage to load there are lots of texture issues. Get it on GOG or hoist the colors. edit: I used the 4 GB patch, DXVK fix and put graphics to low. Still crashing.
Recommended, but only if you're willing to mod it. Dragon Age: Origins is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and despite being released in 2009, it still holds up kinda well today. The story is engaging, companions are memorable, voice acting remains excellent, combat is fun, and the soundtrack is really good, featuring several memorable themes that are instantly recognizable to DA fans. That said, I cannot honestly recommend buying this game and playing it completely vanilla in 2026. First, if you're playing the Steam version, you must be aware of a long-standing issue that can prevent the DLC content from appearing correctly, even though it's included with the Ultimate Edition. I highly recommend following this guide below before starting your playthrough to ensure all extra content is properly working as intended. DLC Fix Guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2104780823 Unfortunately, the PC version of the game suffers from VARIOUS technical issues. Some bugs can affect quests, stability, combat, and more. Lucky us, the modding community has spent years fixing many of these problems, and there are now excellent guides that make the process much easier than it sounds. With a handful of essential fixes and quality-of-life improvements, DAOrigins transforms from an aging classic into a genuinely fantastic RPG experience. I strongly recommend playing on PC rather than console because of the extensive modding scene. Recommended mod guide video: https://youtu.be/aeTkPTkGInE?si=k6r92rDIpJPkTddA Recommended mod guide list: https://www.sinitargaming.com/dao.html The combat system offers a satisfying blend of tactical planning and traditional RPG character building. While it may feel slow to players accustomed to modern action RPGs, those who like party management, positioning, and strategic encounters will find a lot to enjoy here. The main plot itself is relatively straightforward: unite the nations of Ferelden and stop a world-ending threat. However, what elevates the experience is the worldbuilding. The lore of Thedas is rich and interesting without becoming overwhelming. For players who want to explore fantasy RPGs but are intimidated by complicated lore, DAOrigins serves as a good entry point. There is plenty of depth for those who seek it, yet the game introduces its world in a way that remains accessible. Another important thing to be mentioned it's the game's promotional and bonus content. Back when DAOrigins launched, several exclusive items were distributed through pre-order bonuses, retailer promotions, collector's editions, and other limited-time offers. Many of these items are not found on the Steam version, but the community has preserved ways to restore them. Download those extras here: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Downloadable_content_(Origins) In my opinion, despite its technical shortcomings, Dragon Age: Origins remains one of the most enjoyable fantasy RPGs ever created. With the right mods installed, it's easy to see why so many players still consider this a great game. The Veilguard wish it was this good. Score: 9/10 Purchased with a 90% discount. Tip for those who decided to buy/play: While there isn’t a strict order for all of the DLCs, this is the progression I personally recommend. During the main campaign, play "The Stone Prisoner" early as possible (after Lothering), tackle "Warden’s Keep" around the middle of the story, and save "Return to Ostagar" for the late game. "Leliana’s Song" and "A Tale of Orzammar" are both prequels and can be played at any time without affecting the main story, though I recommend playing Leliana’s Song after learning about Leliana’s past and A Tale of Orzammar before beginning the mission "A Paragon of Her Kind" (or even before starting Origins if you’re playing a dwarf origin). After completing the main campaign, the canonical order is "Awakening", "Golems of Amgarrak", and finally "Witch Hunt", especially if you plan to import your character throughout the expansions. "The Darkspawn Chronicles" is a non-canon alternate timeline, so I’d save it for last, as it contains major spoilers for the main story.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 8: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 8/day in the week to Jul 30 → 6.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Bioware at their peak. Best fantasy RPG, even with BG3 out. I wonder what the Dragon Age series would have been like after Origins if it weren't for EA. The saddest downfall in history.
*WARNING* Fantastic game. Cannot recommend now as the game is broken without a third party fix. Buy the GOG version. EA is the worst.
The game keeps crashing, even though I just want to play without the hassle of spending two hours looking for a solution on Reddit. It's not fit to be played on a modern PC!
Short Review: Engrossing story, amazing music, brilliant voice-acting, fun tactical combat. Runs great on Bazzite for some reason (had numerous crashes on Windows). Long review: Dragon Age: Origins is unfortunately a game that quite frankly, ruined games for me. I say this because I could never replicate that rush of dopamine I received from playing DA: O the first 6 times from any other game. Some came close. But never quite there. It is been since 2011 now that I have been waiting and hopefully one day, like a crackhead waiting to replicate the rush of his first hit, that I will too replicate the joy I felt playing this game for the first time. Origins tackles everything it decides to take on really well. The voice acting is superb; with talent such as Steve Blum, Steve Valentine. Claudia Black, Mark Hildreth, Kate Mulgrew and Simon Templeman doing an incredible job at making the characters feel alive and believable. The world design? Hell, David Gaider outdid himself in setting up a universe (that was sadly pissed all over with the sequels) that was immersive and interesting. I always wanted to explore more. What is Tevinter like? When will I see Kal-Sharok? Can I go to Orlais to drink champagne and eat stinky cheeses? When can I witness the culture of the Qunari? Why does Sten speak of the Tal-Vashoth as if they are some dark otherwordly beings? These were all questions I constantly asked myself during my initial playthrough, all stemming from having conversations with the companions and NPCs in the game. The atmosphere is amplified by a soundtrack composed by Inon Zur that perfectly matches the scene that it accompanies. And when it comes to role playing, DA: O does it right. From the get-go you have the choice to start the game from one of 6 different "Origins", some tied to a specific race. Every single one of these is so damn good as your past serves as a 30-60 minute tutorial, setting up the world and preparing you for the main game. Your past also follows you, in some origins more so than others but regardless it feels great when you are 10-20 hours in the game and you meet someone that played a pivotal role in your character's origin. The gameplay is also really fun. The PC version is naturally by far superior to the console versions which were heavily modified to fit the confines of a controller-based gameplay system. Combat is tactical and encourages you to exploit weaknesses and to use the environment to your advantage. Mages like always can be useless in the beginning but overpowered mid to late game. Rogues are squishy but can lockpick, go invisible, backstab and inflict critical hits more often. Warriors can two-hand weapons for massive hits or tank for the team with a sword and shield. The plot is simple, but the way the story unfolds is excellent. I won't say more so that I do not spoil anything for those who are yet to play it. Dragon Age: Origins is the game that brings out the autist in me. I own this game literally on every platform that I can think of. PS3 : Finished it 26 times and platinumed it. Xbox 360: Finished it 4 times and got all the achiviements. PC DVD (remember those lol??) Finished it 6 times, got all the in-game achievements. EA APP: Finished it zero times because EA APP is terrible. GOG: Finished it once. Steam: Yet to finish but I am a little burned out at the time of writing this. Total estimated logged hours : around 1000 - 1100
Unplayable as is. You will need to modify DirectX, download external patches and software, and heavily modify graphics settings in and outside of the game (Youtube videos and reddit threads will need to be tracked down for details). It's alot of work and effort to make a paid game function, but the game itself is amazing.
