A wonderful take on EQ descended play. The team had been led by legendary EQ founder, and now continues after his passing. Great Graphics and feedback on actions. Good combat animations and intuitive controls. Give it a shot, as you like.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my time in Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. From the moment I stepped into its immersive world, the gameplay has felt like a return to classic MMORPG roots—with thoughtful pacing, meaningful progression, and a real sense of adventure. The community engagement and group-focused mechanics make every session rewarding, and the atmosphere is dripping with nostalgia while still feeling fresh. What excites me most is knowing that this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to see what future content the developers have in store. I'll soon be diving into the PvP server for a new layer of challenge, and I'm eager to see how it reshapes my experience. If the PvE gameplay is anything to go by, I’m in for a treat. Whether you’re a long-time MMO fan or just looking for something deeper than the usual theme park fare, Pantheon has something special brewing—and I’m glad to be along for the ride.
If they consistently update this game, and really hunker down on fleshing out the world and pocketing it with interesting solo content and group content this will be a solid home. I will always say, Breath of the Wild is the perfect resource to see where solo content could aim for, tons of inspo just sitting there in both Breath and Tears of the Kingdom. The other thing, which will take time, is that this really needs more optimization, playing this on the steam deck with a locked res of 720p and mostly sitting at around 20-30fps. Hopefully with more updates not only does the game itself get better but maybe I can hit 40-60fps some day too. EDIT #1: After some more play testing and tweaking I have found the sweet spot for FPS and Resolution I ended up lowering the res to 640p, I now get anywhere from 40-50fps and that’s a huge upgrade. The resolution is not too low to make text unreadable on my 4k TV so I call that a win till more Proton updates roll out and VR patches the game in the future. I will update this review whenever something changes in the future.
reminds me of 2002 everquest
I’ve seen a lot of people compare Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen to games like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV, and honestly, I think that’s the biggest mistake someone can make going into this game. Pantheon is not trying to be the next WoW. It’s not trying to be FFXIV. And I truly hope it never becomes either of them. This game is built around something a lot of MMOs moved away from years ago: community. Yes, you can solo. You can gather, craft, and spend time doing your own thing. But the real experience that makes this game special is finding a group of people you actually want to log in for every day. A team to adventure with. A group to learn the game with. People to wipe with, laugh with, figure things out with, and slowly grow stronger beside as you find new gear and overcome harder challenges together. And yeah, maybe this sounds nerdy, but I’m being honest when I say I bought and refunded this game three different times. Every single time I tried to play it like a modern MMO where I could mostly live in my own lane, it just felt empty to me. Then I met a group. That completely changed the game for me. Suddenly the slower pace made sense. The danger mattered. The exploration mattered. Even simple upgrades and successful dungeon runs started feeling rewarding because they were shared experiences instead of just another checklist to sprint through. Pantheon stands on its own as an MMO. Sure, it shares similarities with other games in the genre but comparing it directly to WoW or FFXIV is like comparing apples to oranges. The only thing they truly have in common is that they’re MMOs. So, my advice is this: Don’t buy Pantheon if you’re looking for the next theme park MMO with instant gratification and solo-first gameplay. Buy it if you miss the feeling of building friendships through adventure. Buy it if you want a world that feels dangerous and rewarding. Buy it if you want the journey not just the destination.
Great MMO so far.
Meh
I rather enjoy this game as it feels like a brand new and way improved EQ.
