It has been 500 years since the Deicide War severed the connection between the people and their gods. The Ravaging Lord pushed nations across Terminus to near extinction before the Dragon King himself appeared and brought an end to the bloodshed.
Now, the denizens of Terminus must uncover the mysteries of their past and unlock the silenced power of their gods. For war will come again. And this time the dragons won’t be there to save you.

I want to offer something of a counterpoint to some of the negativity surrounding this game. I am not going to wade into the protracted development cycle, crowdfunding scandals, or lack of progress (real or perceived). I don't have enough knowledge (or interest) to offer an opinion on those. I'm reviewing this purely on the basis of "Is this worth $40?" I've played over 100 hours and gotten a class to 25 and one to 15, and the answer to this is, "Yes! If..." If you are looking for a game that isn't like current MMO's and also isn't a private server that could be shut down at any moment. If you have large blocks of free-time. If you're okay with death penalties. If you want to rely on other players for basic things like leveling up and sometimes even gathering materials. If you start on the Stormona server and roll a Human, Dwarf, Ogre, or Dark Myr. Then this game may be for you. The base game, from 1-20 is fairly fleshed out. There's plenty of quests and crafting and dungeons and options to explore. The classes are all distinct (very much set into their specific roles) and functional. It scratches that classic EQ/FFXI itch that you can't get legally anymore. The community (on Stormona, at least) is fairly friendly. I've now played over 100 hours and feel like I've firmly gotten my money's worth. Gameplay is fun in that kind of mindless camping monsters to level up and get loot kind of way. If I had to offer two big criticisms, both related to graphics: -The game engine is not optimized at all and runs poorly. -The two most fleshed out areas (the starter areas for the races I specific above), Thronefast and Avendyr's Plains, are incredibly generic fantasy environments. While these two areas have a few interesting subzones, they are dreadfully boring both visually and design-wise. It's a shame because Wild's End (the Halfling and Elf starting area) is a much nicer looking and more interesting area, but almost no one plays in that area. There's no open world dungeon (like Halnir's Cave in AVP), and generally due to the network effect, even players who start there quickly move to AVP because that's where everyone is. Past 20 the game is much less fleshed out (fewer areas, fewer dungeons, classes missing skills, etc). Experience gain also starts to slow down pretty dramatically. I don't know if/when the devs will ever "launch" this game. It's missing a lot of basic features, some which are on the roadmap and some which aren't. Certainly the loudest members of the community will tell you this game is going nowhere. I don't know if I will continue to play at this time. But I had fun with the time I've had and got exactly what I was expecting.

Dead half-done game.
At the current state of the game, art style changes keep happening and missed promises I would not recommend the game, logged in during a "prime time" hour and I saw next to nobody in the area I was in. They mentioned they were doing a Spring wipe but that seems to no longer be happening. I"ll return to the game for sure, but at the moment in time if you are looking for an MMO Scratch, i'd keep looking. A lot of players exploited the game and got massive amounts of gold before they patched it and then let them keep it since a "Spring wipe is coming" but it really messed with the economy of the game.
If you’re buying this game for PvP, save your money. There are two PvP servers, and both are completely dead with no active player base. The game’s design requires you to play in a group to make any real character progress, which is impossible when there’s nobody around. This makes the PvP experience nonexistent and the game unplayable for solo players.
I doubt this game ever leaves beta. Stay away and dont waste your money.
There are a few things about the game and company PR that really were off putting: It wants to be an MMO -but player base does not allow for consistent group experience -no fall back experiences for solo play -tedious xp curves -empty bioms -abysmal loot drops -no quality of life with travels -farming regular ingredients for stuff like potions is as long and tedious as farming epic stuff "Yes but it´s in early access" -Well its been in early access since 2014! -It had 2 rounds of funding for over 5 millions on top of kickstarters etc -They don´t have a clear roadmap -There is "friends of dev get special treatment" drama all over Youtube and reddit Honestly, it just feels like an opportunistic project to milk money or serious mismanagement. I have no idea who they managed to convinced to fund the project in Q4 or even how they managed to convinced them, that money will go down the drain. I cannot recommend this game in good faith, there are other titles that will scratch that itch in a much more satisfying way and a lot more transparency (mnm). I will still keep an eye on PROTF but probably won´t touch it until an actual 1.0 hits the market (maybe in 10 years) and of course if preferential treatments between dev and players have ceased.
I don't agree with the direction of this game.
Poor management decisions seem to be bogging down development and souring player relations. I was very hopeful for this game as it really seemed it would scratch that classic mmo itch. However, I am currently not optimistic that the vision will ever be realised.
The developers are bent on breaking every functional mechanic in the game. Destroying hours and hours of farming the perfect gear so you stats don't suck, to where you are back to the effectiveness you had 10 levels before. This game is a money grab, they get the money for you buying the game then they make you want to quit.
The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and neither hand is on the wheel.
