🧠 OUT OF THE BOX is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is essentially a ripoff of Papers Please, except instead of the dour pixel/text interface + Orwellian theme, we have instead the colourful, cartoony Orwellian night club bouncer theme. There's a background narrative, just like Papers Please, a "Choose Your Own Adventure" wrapper around the game loop, which is a bit more dumbed down than Papers Please, for the mobile app store gamers the game was designed for. You're presented with an individual and you have 5 levers to pull to make your decision, let them in, kick them out, check their ID etc etc. Don't let underaged/dunk/bums into the club, etc etc. Not difficult, and I expect the cartoony artwork would have appealed a lot to Android gamers. But is it fun? Nope. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this mobile app. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. We're here to play games, not read through hours of garbage intersituals. My gaming rig is not a Kindle. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The mobile app is comprised of somewhat mediocre hand drawn 2D illustrations instead of professional looking 3D game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent. Regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is very low, beneath what PC gamers have come to expect in this era of cutting edge photorealistic 3D graphics. At least it's not pixel "art", but if you're looking for contemporary, immersive visuals, this mobile app is a fail. While there are options to change the resolution for the mobile app, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the mobile app, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this mobile app was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the mobile app. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the mobile app... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the mobile app just has a couple of players every week running up the mobile app and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many mobile apps like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is around $20 USD, on app stores, it's $8. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay TWICE THE PRICE for an already overpriced mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this is a mobile app, is priced to insult and gouge PC gamers, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Just who do they think we are?

Repetitive slog, so repetitive, did I mention that this game is repetive². Save your money and get an enjoyable game instead. My rating 4/10, not recommended.
🎮 Reseña de 🧠 OUT OF THE BOX

I found that this is a much simpler version of Papers Please, but that didn't mean I didn't have any fun with it. Once you knew what you were doing it became a little repetitive, but having the odd wacky drunks interesting with you kept it fun. Also the story was quite enjoyable!
9/10
I love the art style, this is a little like papers please. A good time though it does get stale quite quickly
Not Recommended
Not a bad game but it is certainly overpriced. Game mechanics are straight up ripped off from Papers Please, yet this game is more expensive. On top of it, this game is a lot simpler to play and offers less to the player. I like the overall aesthetic but this does not justify its price tag.
