Really fun even in 2026

2.0 is there last update permanently meta dismantled the team and moved them to a different one it truly breaks my heart my first experience with it was jumping into a match on downfall and having an incredible time. I don’t do public matches nearly as much as I used to what I do now is just mainly host gun game matches with my friends every now and then but when I saw that this was there last update I genuinely can’t recommend this anymore I believe that it’s partly the dev teams fault but mostly metas. Is that for certain? Absolutely not but who’s to say. If there is one good thing to write about this is that the servers won’t be shut down like echo vr.
DONT LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS
Read the edit down below to see why i dont recommend it anymore DONT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Onward is a great game, and yes, it does have some bugs and issues with the game that people dont enjoy. Downpour is just trying to make a good Milsim VR game! So lemme cover the issues that most people may have been having:
Matchmaking
Some people go into the comp queue and find nobody because no one gives a flying fluff about Competitive. But for people who cant find a SINGLE LOBBY WITH PLAYERS, have you considered the GIANT SERVER BROWSER button in the corner?????
Gameplay
Personally, I don't really seem to see what gameplay features may be missing. Sure, there are bugs, and yes, it's not perfect, but overall the gameplay seems to be fine at the moment.
Toxicity
I never see anyone really complaining about this, but I'll just put this here anyway: have you considered the MAGICAL MUTE BUTTON? Plus, any game with any sort of competition will always have toxic people.
Visuals
They're just textures, I dont see what's wrong with them. What, are you expecting GTA 6-type textures??? Jokes aside, the textures are fine, just the basic minimum for any Milsim VR, and even at the minimum they're still fine.
Co-Op AI
I can't believe people are complaining how easy the AI is. HEY BUDDY, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED RAISING THE DIFFICULTY??? Even then, pretty much all AI bots are dumb as a brick, but thats because that they're not players. They dont have the mental capacity to make whole strategies to kill you. They're just programming that tells them to move, aim, and shoot.
Bugs
Every game has bugs, just report them to the discord or something.
FINAL VERDICT
Overall, Downpour is working hard to make a good Milsim, and while it's not perfect, Onward is still a great game, and I would probably rate it an 8.5/10. They're still working hard on this game and trying to make it as good as possible. I know people are going to hate my review and call me out for stuff I missed, but I'll cover that when I can. In conclusion, Onward is a pretty solid Milsim, and I wouldn't exactly say it's worth the full price, maybe when it goes on sale you should definitely try it out!!!
EDIT
Just realized how good the game was before Meta bought it, I wouldn't have known since i started post-Meta buy-out. Plus, it takes so much space when you count its folder in the Appdata folder. I have since deleted it and havent touched it since.
good war game, only problem I had was my mag from my main gun wouldn't eject making it impossible to reload
