Oneiro is one of the most unique games concept and story wise that I personally have played in a long while. Gameplay is the perfect balance of challenging with enough reward to keep the player motivated to move forward. There's tons of different gear options so no two runs will ever be the same. Can't recommend the game enough.
From the moment you press E to dream in Oneiro, you can look straight down and you will already see the first boss waiting for you right below your feet. This unique level design creates an interesting and ever-present tension between opposites which is reflected in many areas of the gameplay. As one example: the more enemies you clear out of the labyrinth before jumping down to the boss, the more gear you will have, and the easier that fight will be. But it also leaves you less time left to progress into even deeper levels of the nightmare. But if, on the other hand, you rush the boss at the first possible moment as soon as you have a viable weapon, many of the enemies you skipped over will instead fall down into the boss arena and make your life difficult. Finding the right balance on this dynamic difficulty scale is the key to overcoming your fears, and it shapes how you approach each level, how you distribute items in your build, and the risks you choose to take or choose to avoid. It's like Doom meets Dark Souls meets Risk of Rain in some kind of haunted funhouse mirror. Tight controls, polished gameplay, stable (very few bugs) and runs fast (>200fps on my machine). It seems like the developer has a very good understanding of what makes this game fun to play, and leans into it. The story is minimalist but sets a great tone for the experience by casting everything in a metaphorical light. It creates a vibe while leaving plenty of room for interpretation for whatever manifestation of fears may be most meaningful to the player. It took me about 20 hours to finally overcome my fears -- the first step was learning the mechanics and training my brain to immediately recognize danger in the labyrinth (instinctively checking walls & floors become like a mantra), and the second step was experimenting and learning what builds worked the best. Make no mistake -- the game requires patience and perseverance, enough so that every small victory along the way feels meaningful and climactic. Recommended!

Very solid game that feels like every single aspect of it is handmade, for better or worse. I managed to beat the first boss and I think I am satisfied with that level of progression since this game is surprisingly hard. I very rarely die to enemies. Most of the deaths I have is from spikes or from falling into the void or boss arena immediately. The textures on the spiked walls and breakable floor indicators do not make it easy to spot, even when I take the time to play slowly. I am sure there is a way to consistently get really strong in this game and it might have really cool tech and such, but nevertheless, I had my fun and I may or may not replay this game and see if I can beat it fully or at least reach the final boss.
its a really good rogue like. its not to hard to become op but even when you do you can still die very easily. the only real problem I have with this game is the yellow slimes I just despise them..
There is an enemy that sets fire traps, do you counter by backing off and trying to maneuver around them? No, there are torches on the wall that set you on fire anyways There is an enemy that frequently attacks with large AOE attacks, do you counter it by using stunning attacks? No, this specific enemy and only this enemy can still attack even when stunned. You get hit anyways There is an enemy that rapidly fires projectiles in a straight line, do you counter by approaching while keeping to it's flank? No, it suddenly start firing projectiles in a ring around itself. You get hit anyways. You randomly find a shield, do you use it try as a shield? No, You cannot use the shield with any other weapon. Oh, and the shield does not block damage, it's a copy of the sword weapon but worse. Do you just try to mind your own business and find items? Of course not, spiders can randomly lunge at you from across the map, slimes can shoot the floor out from under you (this instantly kills you), the floor can also suddenly break from under your feet because you didn't notice that the specific tile you stepped on had some dirt on it (the choreograph for fragile glass is dirt, not splinters or cracks for some reason. This also instantly kills you), and if you round a corner a little too fast, you might not notice that the wall you just passed is trapped, taking out 50% of your HP, or just outright killing you if you got the "reward" from killing the miniboss The final boss repeatedly spawns waves of the busted enemies and spams an unavoidable attack. It also hovers out of range as much as it's AI allows, so the only way to end the fight in a timely manner is to hoard a bunch of grapple hooks or to hunt down a genie's lamp (doesn't grant wishes, it gives you double jump for some reason) and dupe it a bunch of times
Oneiro is like a 3D FPS version of Spelunky meets Risk of Rain, where each run is different in the items, weapons and approach you will take in your quest to reach the top. It's a difficult, unforgiving game, that rewards learning the enemies, traps and mechanics. You will die a lot, and often swiftly, but each time hopefully learn a little bit more of how things work; a little shortcut here, the new use of an item there, obtain some uncommon drop that heaps you break the game just a little bit more in your favor. It has the same pull to me as early Civilization games or Spelunky; just one more run. Now I've worked out how this trap works, I'm bound to get further than last run! I've worked out the attack pattern of this seemingly overpowered enemy, now I don't take any damage... knock down this wall, now the ceiling is used as a ramp to get outside the confines of the labyrinth and progress to the next challenge. Honestly, I feel the asking price is too low. There is a lot of game here, it will challenge you and if you're prepared to persist, the satisfaction of progressing just that little bit more is very rewarding.
Honestly this game must be one of the best rogue like experiences I have ever had !!! Everything down to the last minute detail is well made and on point with the uncanny vibe I suppose the game tries to give off (at least from my Point of view) which is also enhanced by the soundtrack ! The movement and fighting style seem really slow at first but trust me it's just a matter of getting used to it cause after that the game feels more natural than ever !!! I haven't achieved anything too much yet (only having beaten the first boss :p) but still I am excited for what he game has in store for me when I finally progress : D Overall a pretty neat game I would totally recommend it to anyone , especially if you lookin for a good rogue like ... it literally costs so little for he gameplay it can offer it is basically like stealing :V .
game's really good but the yellow slimes are a pain in the bum
One of my favorite games to play to pass the time. Not grindy, no repetitive bs, and no boring gameplay. The surreal visuals are just amazing and are an eye f--k in a good way. I definetly recommend it to anyone who wants to play an already known and loved game genre with a surreal and a not so much seen artstyle in other games
Difficult but great roguelike!
