For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. About

Old World is a historical strategy game where you lead your empire through multiple generations, building a grand legacy to last beyond your own years. This is an era of great leaders, from the revered to the feared. Which will you be?

Marry for politics, raise your heirs, and manage your relationship with the families of your kingdom. In the fast and furious world of kings and queens, family matters.
Each of the 7 kingdoms has four noble families that provide various benefits when put in charge of your cities.
Manage family ties through events, actions, and marriages to keep them happy and reap additional benefits. Upset them, or make them too powerful, and you risk their ire.
Maintain a strong family unit, or distract yourself with more illicit adventures.

The world is full of great characters with distinct personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Use them to forge your kingdom, defend your borders, and build ties with other leaders.
Seek out and recruit famed warriors, philosophers, builders, and more. Have them tutor your children, lead your armies, and further your reign.
Different personality archetypes allow your court members to perform different tasks in similar roles. Find the right combinations to take full advantage of governors, diplomats, spymasters, and even your spouse.
Characters develop new personalities and traits over time, growing old, gaining experience, and finally falling ill and passing away, leaving room for the next generation.

Unsettled tribes, barbarian marauders, and remnants of previous cultures are all waiting in the vast unexplored wilderness.
Discover artifacts and great heroes of the past at ruins scattered across the map.
Experience over 3,000 unique events inspired by history and mythology.
Contact with foreign dignitaries triggers event chains, stories, and courtroom drama.
Pursue ambitions and legacies related to conquest, development, faith, and more.
Historically inspired scenarios, weekly challenge games, and a choice between randomly generated and handcrafted maps to explore. Lead Carthage to victory as Hannibal in the Punic Wars, hold your own against Barbarian Hordes, or compete against other players in tackling fictional scenarios.

Why do things the way they've always been done? Old World brings a new take to key elements of the 4X strategy genre:
Go beyond the traditional resources. Buildings are made of wood and stone, not "industry." Population doesn't grow off "food" alone.
Orders are a resource shared across your realm. Instead of moving every unit once per turn, each unit can be moved multiple times until fatigued or Orders are depleted.
Technological advancement is not predetermined. Randomization helps keep technology trees feeling fresh with each new playthrough.
Quality of life improvements, such as the ability to undo mistaken commands and nested tooltips, ensure you're always making informed decisions.
Play with friends in countless multiplayer modes — from hotseat, to asynchronous, to cloud play.
Experience a Grammy-nominated soundtrack blending Arabic music with contemporary influences.
Mods further open up infinite options for new worlds, empires, and dynasties — inspired by our real world, and by works of fiction as well.

Major upgrade from latest civ games, good stuff !!
Final Updated Review- NICE,great new civs, and nice improvements in events. i have recieved fairly good amount of positive events in my single player playthroughs. Buddhism religion is placed at the perfect spot and fair requirement. new wonders are fantastic. i am satisfied with the single player aspect of the game. my final thoughts on some mechanics; 1- buddhism and Mani are placed perfectly on tech tree. however same cannot be said for others, but for now having the abilty to beeline and secure religion is good enough. however i still hate that a single civ can find multiple religions and get free VP. i have had so many games where a single civ controls 3 religion and that usually happens with civs who have the highest city no. start. in my opinion all religion should be on same tech level as buddhism and mani and no one should be able to find more than 1 religion. 2- wonders are still elusive and near impossible to score on single player. AI just chain build wonders. i think the problem is in civic accumulation and culture gain. when i check post game stats, the civic lead is massive from early to start. civs like greece gets turn 25 strong cities, which is ridiculous. opponents are simply not incentivised to spend civics anywhere but wonders. i think AI city yields needs to be balanced. game is still winnable without wonders but not being able to interact with that mechanics sucks. 3- i get that the game has to look from both singleplayer and multiplayer perspective, but currently the game is biased towards multiplayer. updated review feedback - still ANTI- FUN, UNSATISFACTORY AND CRINGE, recently had a game where a single civ founded 3 religion. Lost the game at turn 113, fastest defeat yet. feedback- ambition victory can be overhauled, whenever you get to choose which ambition you want to go for, the game can offer to reroll ambitions at the cost of civics(400 civics). another approach would be show all the 10 ambitions at the beginning of the game and player gets to reroll 2-3 of them and continue. this approach gives player to strategize from the very beginning and gives more control. Original Review 1- ANTI-FUN, UNSATISFACTORY from turn 1 to 130. Out of 10 complete games on "the great difficulty" there was not a single time i felt satisfied with my empire. there is 0 player freedom. its like every turn the game throws rng at you and you just try to deal with it. What part of this game is grand strategy?!? either you do land consolidation rush or you do jurispudence rush, nothing else is viable. how come a single civilization can find more than 1 religion and do nthing with the later one. players are just denied every oppurtunity to do anything but other than doing same strategy again and again. forget wonders between turn 1-60 while you are defending your empires from the horde, all the early wonders are gone, by the time you reach some stability maybe 1,2 wonders are left in total which could compiment your empire or nah, again all rng. if you choose not build it, then it's another 2 vp lost to other civs. Talk about religion, i dont undrstand how do you expect players to find it when ai already start with required techs and improvements. While i am researching the tech they are getting specialists and no judaism or zoro for me, now comes late religion christianity, well good luck growing your pop to 12 and hoping that the former religions by luck spread into 1 your cities. you still get benifits, that is, if you went relgion route but loosing those 2 VP points from holy sites is another lose and puts you on a clock, if you pivot to capturing holy cities, the grind is brutally difficult and not to mention it also limits the kind of map you can play. no land access or near boat achoring range, say goodbye to that strategy. i could go on and on. i really want to love this game but the more i play it more i see anti-player freedom sentiments. i also watch top players on youtube for strategy and common thing is, its either a stragically good location spawn or good rng. Genuinely suprised that this game also made early exploration punishing to players, you are better off not meeting any tribes or other civs to limit the rng, it also gives you extra 10 turns or so to build your economy. my hatred for this game outshadows the good about this game and it really bothers me coz it has so many cool mechanics but players just dont get utilize it. slave to rng. My friend adviced me to tone difficulty or do custom and i say this "would you lower difficulty if you have conquered the highest?" I too want to become a better player and conquer and play on highest difficulty but i also want to feel satisfied with what i am offered to achieve that. how is it satisfactory if i dont get to build what i want when 90% of the event are anti-player friendly. the only minute level of satisfaction i get is setting pins for improvement in best possible manner to get most out adjacency bonuses, that too get crushed when game say "hey do you want ambition point you better build me 6 quarries or F##K uhh" and then you realise there is no mountain in vicinity and no hills, where you wanted to build farms well now you building quarries there. and TADA, here you go, you just ended with an ugly messed up, trash city, and you better show love to it or oligarchs will unalive you... here are some suggestion i would like to share with developers if they ever come across 1- limit ai empires cities and tech advantage to 3 on highest, dont care about city bonuses or the no. of orders they get. 2- no one should be allowed to find more than 1 religion. 3- make wonders accessible to players, your own manual says that you cannot build a strategy around wonders, then why did you add wonders mechanics in the first place, either make them civ exclusive or add race mechanic like civ 6, whovever can complete it faster gets it. this compiments the builder start too. 4- this one is not an issue but more of open mined thinking- i think builders and military should have seperate orders types, like military units should have military orders and builders should have builder orders. that way i still get to build up my economy and defend myself. later on add some kind of law where i could exchange those order with each other depending on situation if i have militaristic or economy goal. 5- this one is cringe, if i have bold trait(+2 training) and an event give me timid trait(-2 training). how DAFUK do i end up with final (-2) total....OMG f##k uhhhhhhh.. math dont math...make it 0... make it "trait cancel" ASAP. 6- would really appreciate if legitamacy gives more order and ambition completion also give base orders and new succsession penalty should be reduced. I mean you have already take away the power to build empire of my dream atleast let me have good ruler. marrying your heirs to random tribes to prevent all out invasion might be your fetish but certainly not mine and then you add legitimacy hit on that too to make it worse. 7- i will still continue to torment myself playing this game. Deep down i know i cant change anything but i had a dream of a beautiful city of babylon. but developers here are the oligarchs with cruel, debauch and bitter traits. From starting to end game barks and you obey. currently i would not recommend this game to players who enjoys player freedom.

Better than CIV and replayable - the devs keep releasing top tier dlc as well.
I really enjoy this game for its tactical depth. However, the longer I play, the more repetitive the events feel. To be clear, it’s not that the events themselves are identical, but rather that I have to do too much "reading" Since the core mechanic boils down to picking an option to get specific stat bonuses, I’ve found myself caring less about the narrative and simply min maxing for the best stats. I believe the dev team needs to introduce more impactful gameplay additions to reduce this fatigue. I’ve played Civ and Age of Wonders before; while I think Old World has superior tactical depth, those other titles do a better job of keeping me engaged for hours on end without feeling bored. For instance, in Civ, the progression through different eras introduces new elements and a fresh 'color palette' at each stage, which motivates me to see the game through to the end. I hope to see more RPG elements in the future, such as a loot system where players can find items to equip on generals or cities to boost stats. Additionally, if possible, expanding into later eras (like the Middle Ages or the Renaissance) would add much needed discovery. Even a 'mythical' RNG element like a Kraken randomly appearing in the ocean, prompting nations to hunt it down for points or rare items would provide the kind of excitement that keeps me looking forward to every turn
I don't have too much experience with Civ-like games, but Old World got me from the start. 10 hour long tutorial did that. At 36 hours currently I'm playing only my third game (one lost and one abandoned). It was slow and frankly taxing at first, but after getting everything automated, game let's you focus on the good stuff like relations, well being and espionage. It all boils down to keeping happines levels above 0, but you need to put some mind in it. As many before me I need to applaud events system which coupled with the family system really gives you completely different experience each time. To my actual surprise. With your regular tech tree and policies that actually do change things, it leaves you with a lot of variation. To the point, when replaying a scenario you do have vastly different choices. Chosing right family really does matter, especially at first. On the not so bright side I have some reservations regarding growth. As I mentioned before, you can automate most of the map movement (basically everything besides army menagement) which really helps when you are north of five cities, there will be a point in a game when basically all you do is moving your troops from one end of the map to the other. And maps are big, like propper BIG, so you might end up doing just that for 30ish turns. And then fights, unit after unit. And then you need to assign generals and promote your units. All of them. It's getting really tedious later on. But that aside I really do enjoy that game and can recommend it to even less experienced players.
TL;DR: Why Old World? Because: -Antiquity ROCKS -The devs know how to make a FUN game and they CARE (which isn't as common anymore it seems) -Events and characters add a lot more variability! -The devs roll out regular updates and DLCs years after release! First of all, this game is wonderful and plays like it was a labor of love. Various events are awesome and add a lot to replayability (even a layer of GoT which is always appreciated!). Also the relationships and events between characters make them personable (instead of generic cardboard cutouts that just give you bonuses). Are assassinations a thing in this game? You bet! How about scheming/spying? Absolutely! What's that? A rival city is jealous of your cultural progress? You can fund the rebels in that town. The fact that this game is based on Antiquity makes you appreciate various decisions and details (unlike a generic game that covers 2000+ years). Names of different historical settlements are present, the game and DLCs have historical scenarios/campaigns (which are enjoyable as well). Random map generator is customizable too. With different nations and leader types, you can play in different ways, and/or achieve different victories, whether you prefer conquests, or victory points, or ambitions. Did I mention that this game is a lot of fun? Music selection and sound design need to be complemented - everything fits very well. The same goes for event paintings - they look great (with one exception: a painting for Zoroastrianism needs a perspective fix). As cool as The Sacred and the Profane DLC is (with new mechanics and a ton of new events!), the mechanics of religions aren't very transparent - I think I've grasped most of them, but not completely still (encyclopedia isn't always helpful here). Personal wishlist: -The game has Confuscius and Aristotle as NPCs? Cool!.. Now wait a minute - Hypatia is in the game?! Neoplatonist is a TRAIT?! Sign me up! That begs a question: where are the other phenomenal philosophers of Ancient Greece/Antiquity, like Pythagoras/Socrates/Plato/Plotinus/Porphyry/Iamblicus/Proclus/Simplicius/Syrianus/etc.? I think that these people are integral for that period. Eagerly waiting for those to be added. Would gladly buy such DLC. -Speaking of that, what if some characters are tied to their geographical origins? Like upon finding Miletus, somebody references Anaximander's teachings? What if Pythagoras emerges in this area and gives a bonus to science? There's a lot that can be added still! Wow, wouldn't that be great! -Spy network mechanics appear late in the game, which is okay, but I think much more can be done there, i.e. options to assassinate a politician (not necessarily the leader), poison the city's well, or mislead the rival nation (i.e. they get a penalty in science for X amount of years) etc. These things could be tied to the agent/spymaster's abilities. What if something can be stirred before spymaster is an option? -I would welcome more interactions with NPCs to add more of that GoT spice. Personally, I'm not a fan of purely negative events (I read that some of the DLCs do that), but prefer those that add choices and potential bonuses/penalties for even more depth (and there's a lot of them!). -After a while of playing, I'd like to see more character portraits/names etc. And I will always gladly take more new events! Overall, if you like Antiquity, and/or like Civ-type games, Old World is a gem and a must play. I already influenced my friend (see what I did there?) to buy OW, and keep recommending it to others. P.S.: I have to mention the wonderful mods that Emergent has made, specifically Plato's Cave, Plato's Republic, Philosophy of Science, and Aristotle's Categories. They seamlessly integrate into the game, I never turn them off - they are essential for me.
Мечтаю дожить до момента, когда её оптимизируют
What fresh hell is this? I've never seen graphics OR gameplay as flat as this godawful looking game...
I personally find it's the sweet spot between Civilization and CK3. (However, I haven't really played CK3 myself.)
