It's not really worth going into much detail for this review. The game appears to be busted on level 1 with only a few rooms open and other doors being permanently locked. Can't adjust ANY settings either for the few minutes this takes. Achievements are tied to enemy kills... not level completion... so at least you can claim an easy 100% if you got this from wherever. And the price, LOL.
Doom на минималках
⠀
Its not a bad game. just real basic. no instructions but its easy to play if you just rely on your gaming ancestors spirit to guide you. Many of them might still be alive lol
Cool pixelart first-person shooter. Just right for a few evenings after work
NO COMPRAR BAJO NINGUNA CIRCUNSTANCIA
Old Retro Shooter, developed and published by Hede, is a minimalist first-person shooter designed as a tribute to the early era of 1990s FPS games. The title embraces a deliberately simple structure that reflects the design philosophy of classic shooters, focusing on exploration, weapon-based combat, and survival inside maze-like environments filled with hostile enemies. Instead of modern cinematic storytelling or complex gameplay systems, the experience strips the genre back to its fundamentals: navigating corridors, collecting resources, and eliminating threats that stand between the player and the level’s exit. The game places players directly into a series of labyrinth-style maps where survival depends on careful navigation and quick reflexes. From the moment a level begins, players are surrounded by corridors, chambers, and branching pathways populated by monsters that attack on sight. The goal is straightforward—explore the maze, defeat enemies, and locate the exit that leads to the next section. This design mirrors the structure of early shooters where levels functioned like puzzles of interconnected rooms, encouraging players to explore thoroughly in order to uncover the correct path forward. Combat forms the heart of the gameplay. The player is equipped with a variety of weapons that can be used to eliminate the monsters scattered throughout the environment. Gunplay is direct and uncomplicated, emphasizing movement and positioning rather than tactical systems or ability management. Players are expected to dodge enemy attacks while firing their weapons, circling opponents and clearing rooms one by one. Because ammunition is limited, exploration becomes important not only for finding the exit but also for locating additional resources that allow the player to continue fighting. The enemies encountered during the game provide a constant sense of pressure. As players move deeper into the labyrinth, they frequently encounter groups of monsters that force them into combat situations. These encounters often occur unexpectedly when turning corners or entering new rooms, keeping players alert as they move through the map. While the enemy behavior remains relatively simple, the frequent confrontations help maintain a steady rhythm of exploration and combat that defines the experience. Level design follows a classic maze formula that encourages curiosity and careful observation. Corridors twist and connect in ways that can occasionally make navigation confusing, particularly when players attempt to retrace their steps. Hidden corners and branching paths sometimes contain useful resources such as ammunition, armor, or health packs. These items are essential for survival, especially during longer battles where the player may take damage from multiple enemies. Because of this, players are rewarded for exploring every section of the map rather than rushing directly toward the exit. Health and armor pickups scattered throughout the levels play a crucial role in maintaining momentum. During combat encounters, the player’s health can quickly drop if enemies manage to surround them or land multiple attacks. Finding restorative items hidden within the environment allows players to recover and continue pushing forward through the maze. This resource management adds a layer of strategy to the gameplay, as players must decide when to engage enemies aggressively and when to retreat in search of supplies. Visually, Old Retro Shooter adopts a deliberately old-school aesthetic meant to resemble the early days of 3D shooters. The environments are constructed using simple geometry and textures that echo the look of classic titles from the 1990s. Walls, floors, and objects are designed with basic shapes and minimal detail, reinforcing the nostalgic atmosphere the developer aims to create. While the graphics are undeniably simple by modern standards, they successfully evoke the visual style of the games that inspired the project. The sound design is equally straightforward. Gunfire, enemy sounds, and environmental effects provide the basic audio feedback necessary during combat and exploration. Rather than relying on cinematic soundscapes or orchestral music, the game maintains a simple audio environment that complements its retro aesthetic. These sound effects serve a functional role, helping players recognize enemy presence or confirm successful hits during firefights. Despite its nostalgic intentions, Old Retro Shooter remains a relatively small-scale project. The gameplay mechanics remain consistent throughout the experience, and the overall structure does not evolve dramatically as players progress. While this simplicity may appeal to players who appreciate straightforward arcade-style action, it also means that the game lacks some of the depth and variety found in more polished retro-inspired shooters. The limited scope of the content also becomes noticeable over time. Because the gameplay loop revolves around exploring mazes and fighting enemies with similar mechanics in each level, the experience can begin to feel repetitive after extended sessions. Without additional systems such as varied objectives, diverse enemy behaviors, or new gameplay mechanics introduced later in the game, the core formula remains largely unchanged from beginning to end. However, the game still succeeds in delivering moments of satisfying action. Clearing a room filled with enemies, discovering hidden resources in obscure corners of the maze, and finally locating the path to the exit can create small bursts of accomplishment. The simplicity of the design allows players to focus purely on movement, shooting, and exploration without being distracted by complicated systems. Accessibility is another strength of the game. The controls are easy to understand, and the objectives are clear from the start. Players can quickly grasp the core mechanics and begin progressing through the levels without needing extensive tutorials or instructions. This makes the game approachable for those who simply want a straightforward shooter experience that can be played casually. Overall, Old Retro Shooter is a modest indie FPS that attempts to capture the spirit of early first-person shooters through its minimalist design and straightforward gameplay. Its maze-like levels, simple combat mechanics, and retro visual style create a nostalgic experience that may appeal to fans of classic shooters. However, the limited scope, repetitive structure, and lack of deeper mechanics prevent it from standing out among more ambitious retro-inspired titles. Even so, for players who enjoy the simplicity of old-school FPS gameplay and are looking for a short arcade-style shooting experience, Old Retro Shooter can provide a brief but entertaining journey through a series of monster-filled labyrinths.
