About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Fun instruments, a gnome, and the jobs give you some framework so you have something to base your creativity on - and not as daunting as a DAW and installing VSTs haha.
Awesome concept, awesome game! It was super fun up to now. I even opened up Ableton again because I just felt motivated to make more :D Some minor flaws in early access here and there: Coyping and pasting is a bit tedious if you can't select parts of the piano roll and can't bump things up or down an octave. Some quality of life improvements like these that you are used to if you worked with any DAWs before would be nice.

My Game Bricked after the Ghost Wedding task, froze when I tried to publish song, when I reloaded all progress was gone, nothing I clicked on did anything anymore. It is early accsess though, Games good, I just bricked it and have to start over.

so fucqing fun, literal hours of joy to be spent at your own creative freedom. 10/10
This game hadn't crossed my radar until today and it was an immediate purchase as I knew my partner (big ol' music nerd) would love it. It's such a charming game, from the art to the dialogue, and I can imagine it would be perfect for someone wanting to jump back into music in a low pressure setting. I love that the music you make is yours to keep and use, too.
buy game or you not invited to my birthday party
Very good game so far, I'm really enjoying it! Just. Please please please add volume control to the game, I shouldn't have to be going into my volume mixer to turn down the game's volume in comparison to everything else. Other than that the rest is fantastic so far :)
Better than FL Studio btw
It's a cross between a simple game, simple music creation software, and great aesthetics. It's not gonna top any goty charts but for what it's worth, I think this rules, super worth it
