About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

I spent over an hour and a half in the tutorial making a silly ringtone for my uncle at Sad Brick Studios. Did I like the results? No. Did I have fun? YES, A LOT. It made me touch my piano again for the first time in weeks. I feel like this game might end up consuming me and changing my life (which is amazing), and I'm VERY excited to see what it will become in the future.
My game of the year. I've wanted to dip a toe in audio production for a while but felt wayyy too intimidated having absolutely zero musical education. This game makes it fun, easy, it looks and sounds and feels amazing. Might just get the courage to try my hand at it for real...so I'd recommend Offbeat a thousand times. Great job to the team! You guys are changing lives

OFFBEAT has made me love the process of music production. As someone who wants to get into making music but doesn't know music theory, or how to use professional DAWs, this game feels like it is the perfect stepping stone for those with little-to-no experience - like me :) It's a lot of fun to play around with all of the unique musical objects, and there are many *aha* moments I got once I finally understood what all of the buttons, knobs, and switches do. The game's progression is great; receiving and completing quests for a variety of clients is an awesome way to create tracks in totally different genres. It's also so cool that the developers let you use all of the music you record for your own personal projects!
with this tiger keyboard and clapping monkey i will become the next fatboy slim
This game has no right to be this fun. I was procrastinating continuing my actual Music Prod Learning Journey waiting for the next hyperfocus to hit, when I saw this in my Recommendations. This is exactly what I didn't even know I would need to get that little push forward. Also you may now address me as Joe Blob from the Nice Head Collective
I am not a very musical person, but I tried to make some music in FL studio some time ago. I love the game and its simplicity so far, wonder how deeper it can get
Great way to see how music made in FL Studio via game perspective. But you can actually make real music via this game
If you have any interest in music production, or have any experience. Seriously, get this game. It takes concepts and turns it into something without a precedent (such as, a kick is turned to a castle door), which mentally gives you more free space to not judge your experiments before you try them. As an educational tool, it's actually quite effective in this way. And unlike most educational tools, it's pretty fun and quite funny at times.
BEST GAME EVER! For a struggling closet musician like me... where my day job is high corporate but I love music.. the limitations this "game" asks you to produce music with is makes it amazing. I have a few DAW's, +400 synths, +5000 samples ect ect.. in this game a have a cat synth and simple step sequencer.. I am forced to use my imagination and make music with what I got at hand. I love it Now I want to buy a hardware step sequencer with a few synth IRL. I hope this games with allow us to use it a virtual instrument in any DAW.. This game taught me that next time I will open my DAW I will have to set limitation for myself which I will have to work with. Hats off for a great game, where the player is forced to make music with what's at hand. This game should be mandatory in any music school. Only whish - Can we have more save slots? I would like to play this game with my children, so I need a few more save slots!
First and foremost i want to say, to the team behind this game, you guys rock. Seriously, if i could buy another support DLC for you guys i 100% would. Your love and respect for this craft is seriously admirable, and im very thankful for this game. As it seriously helps me just make music, as i suffer from really bad ADHD induced Executive Function. So seriously, thank you. Dev love letter aside, the core of this game is to get YOU. Yes YOU, making music, doesn't matter if you're an industry veteran or someone scared of the UI of FruityLoops or Ableton. Its an open sandbox with vague instructions and unlimited possibilities and combinations for you to create upon. Think of it like Such Art or passpartout, but for music. It does guide you to the basics of music theory, but at the end of the day the game repeatedly tells you there are no rules and to just follow your heart (a sentiment i share and have deeply ingrained into my art). If you have an interest in making music but are scared to take the plunge and spend hundreds on FL (id also like to point out, its a competent DAW, i use FruityLoops and its a friendly introduction for it) or ableton, just start here. Its simple, its clean, well worth its price. Get it, create, and have fun, mess around, the only limit is you. Trust me you wont be disappointed, get out there, create, and pour your soul into each piece. Take care and stay creative everyone
