An tiny but excellent survivors-like where you can control when your weapons fire and in which direction. This was originally planned to be much bigger but the developer had to cancel the game's development for personal reasons as well as a massive amount of spaghetti code in the game. For that reason, once you win the game you have seen all that there is to see. Still, this is priced accordingly at only 20kr and you will get your money's worth.

Neophyte is a game where you use your collection of abilities and buffs to cull a horde of dudes. It's not an interesting premise, but it's one of my favorite games due to how engaging it is at all times. The requirements to beat Neophyte can split up into two key skills; build-making and split-second decision making. Making a good build and understand how to play it is important to clearing out enemies efficiently, and being comfortable with the game's base mechanics (knowing when to dash, when to use defensive spells, etc) is important to surviving short bursts of intense damage. But the critical thing to understand is that your decision making cannot fully make up for your poor build-making, and vice versa. If there are too many enemies, it doesn't matter how good you are at the game, you'll still die. If you're taking a lot of damage, it doesn't matter how good your build is, you'll still die. This is ultimately why I keep coming back to Neophyte, because it doesn't let me automatically win even if I get an incredibly powerful build, or if I get good enough at the base mechanics with a subpar build. I'm still liable to take massive damage if I don't take the right precautions, and there's still interesting decisions to be made in my builds. The abilities never read as "crazy," but they're valuable puzzle pieces that you can choose to add to your build, and they're consistent, too. There can be a spell in your arsenal that has no synergy with the rest of your collection, but is still important because it plays a valuable role in your gameplan. This is the principle that I think makes games like Slay the Spire phenomenal; not forcing the player to make a "burn" build, or a "attack speed" build. These games punish you for thinking in that simple manner, and I really enjoy it. This game hasn't been updated in a while, and the developer has stated that there aren't any more updates planned. But like....this game has a lot of content for only costing $3. I've seen many games cost $15-20 and have half of this game's content. If you end up loving the game like I do, this is a complete no-brainer of a purchase. The question is just whether you think you'd enjoy the game as much as I do, and I hope my review has given you an idea of how you'd answer that.
