This art is straight up stolen from Minami Lane. Don't support thieves!
Neko Michi tries so hard to imitate Minami Lane that it borders on plagiarism, but fails to capture the original's charm or subtle complexity. The young devs at Eggtato were kind enough to provide a key in exchange for an honest review, and… well, please accept this as constructive feedback.
Gameplay + Details
Literally Minami Lane: there are five (5) chapters plus a sandbox unlocked after chapter three. Gameplay involves placing one building per day, balancing two populations with competing interests, refining menus, and picking up trash. The interface is almost identical right down to color and font. Controls. Keyboard + Mouse. Playtime. ~2.5 hrs to finish 5 chapters (assuming no bugs). Settings/Options. Window/fullscreen, sound sliders.
What Works For Me
✅ The cat fights were a fun touch. ✅ Cat-folk get high on catnip. ✅ Jaunty but inobtrusive music. ✅ The artwork is cute, but so derivative that I'm not convinced it's human-made.
What Doesn't Work For Me
🟥 Art style, color palette, menus, gameplay - it's copy-paste Minami. 🟥 You can't resume a "completed" level. 🟥 Not challenging. I finished a "win in 21 days" level in 6. 🟥 All cats arrive at the train station even if they live in town. 🟥 "Imported Goods" will always be "suspiciously cheap." 🟥 Due to a bug, my save file was deleted. 🟥 Translation issues: Game often misnamed target populations. 🟥 Repeated "No translation found" errors, but accurate text. 🟥 So, so many weird bugs. 🟥 No credits section to verify human artist/music/etc.
Final Thoughts + Recommendation
The trouble with Neko Michi is that it has nothing new to offer. As much as I love street management and breaking up cat fights, it's impossible not to see a watered-down Minami Lane in everything from the art style to gameplay to the user interface. Like, we're dancing the line between "inspired by" and "hastily copied" here. I had mixed feelings after playing the first two days (~40 minutes), closed out using in-game menus, and came back the next morning to find my save file gone. Since I was already on the fence, replaying those levels was downright boring. Chapter three introduces the maddening "Imported Goods" stores, where nothing matters but guessing which random customer feedback is important. Chapter four was done in ten minutes. In chapter five, the shrine added westerners instead of easterners. It all felt sloppy. At the end of the day, I did not enjoy this, and have a hard time recommending it to anyone not suffering from severe Minami Lane withdrawal. Go play the OG for the same price. To the devs: Your socials showcase some original ideas. Please, please use your time and skills developing those concepts rather than copying something else. I hope you have long, successful careers. 💜
love the game! it's really calming and mixing and matching recipes are so fun! especially having to balance the need of different types of cats wish there's more level to come
Pretty chill game. Very cute art style too and its been interesting working through each chapter, quite puzzley but not that hard at all. did notice a few bugs but nothing major just some typos in menus. Cute little game to put on my 2nd monitor.
very cute and cozy game, but it's also pretty challenging. i do have a couple suggestions for this game: 1. add more window resolution options because i think this game is more enjoyable to play at a smaller window size. 2. add a retry option, because sometimes I forget to build a new building or update my bento or tea recipe, so it'd be nice if i could retry instead of waiting until the round is over. but overall the game is good, the music is chill and the artstyle is very cute! love it love it :D and i can definitely see myself playing this game while working or just to kill some time haha
Honestly bought this just because of the cats, but it turned out to be so addictive once you start layouting the streets and managing their little shops lol 🐾🎏 The visuals are pure eye candy, super relaxing, and genuinely addictive in the best way possible. ✨ Highly recommended to play with a warm cup of tea at night! 🍵 :3 <3
Very chill and cozy game The Game mechanic is fine but its a bit challenging too The cats interaction is cute not gonna lie
I love the art style so much its very cozy and cute, the Concept of dealing both Western and Traditional cat in the town is also make it interesting, even if i encounter some minor bug but it doesn't ruined my experience to play this game
You get whats expected for this price, a solid cozy management game with a good range of building variations.
