This is pretty awesome if you don't own any other competent space 6DOF dogfighter-style games. Sadly to the same degree it's also easily skipped if you do. Disputed Space doesn't really bring anything new to the table aside from being able to simulate massive space battles involving hundreds of fighters and capital ships with very minimal lag on older PCs. Friendly fire is most definitely a thing so not only must you manage strafing runs you must also be aware of where the heavies are currently engaging on the battlefield so you don't fly into their crossfire. You're assigned targets but are always free to attack any enemies at will. Expect 4+ hours to campaign completion.
It's exactly what it says it is, and worth its current price. It seems like most negative reviews are from people that expect a video game to fill the void of purpose within themselves and give their lives meaning. Nothing will ever fill that void, but if you want to blast some NPC bad guys that are messing up your air, then this is a game for exactly that. "Pew-pew-pew" your way to self-actualization as you acquire a of sense of agency in this tiny universe. Fend off simulated waves of opponents in a way that you never will in your own life.

If you asked me 20 years ago what the future of space combat games could look like, Id describe this game. It is beyond me why anyone wants to chase and dogfight little distant dots surrounded by massive HUD icons in the black void of space like most space games. Just pay a guy 30 bucks and text him "did I win?" and wait for him to say "ummm yeah?", way faster and entertaining than most dot chasing Flight Combat games. Straight-up eye candy here and its ready to hit something like 300fps if you have the hardware to pull it off. Exactly the game I didnt know I needed, but just a few minutes in and im sold. Cant wait to play it some more. Doesn't support it out of the box but with the right software this game works great with VR. If it ever gets mouselook for interior cockpit view BAM! VR support out of the box(again provided you have the correct software). To think I was about to throw down 30 dollars for an official VR game like Overload/Descent or Eve Valkyrie....close call. I played the demos....not even close to the fun from this game at 2 bucks. My only wish is for more particles, more lens flares, more bloom, even more eye candy....and maybe a volume slider for BGM and SFX. UPDATE: I mixed up UI's, this one DOES have volume sliders for everything. Now its time for 90's computer hacking music and some action packed laser combat. I still cant get over the value to dollar to visuals to functionality of this game.
First of all, let me explain how 'your money's worth' actually works, as it dawned on me not too long ago. Let's say you work at a job where you make 10$/hr. This game is 2 dollars. Therefore, if you play this game for 12 minutes, you will have recieved your 'money's worth'. That's one of the reasons I recommend this game. The second reason is that space combat sims like this are like finding a needle in a haystack, and they're all either tough to run due to their age (Freespace, X-wing games) or invariably complex to the point that the combat itself is overshadowed (X Series, Elite, etc). This is a game where I can sit down, and be part of a pretty big space battle where capital ships and squadrons of fighters are duking it out. It's good for the imagination. Graphics are decent, there's no real story to speak of, upgrades are a little weird but not that bad, It's an ok space combat game. But you can't play this game for a while. You have to play it in short bursts. Yes, it's repetitive, and it doesn't have much replayability value on it's own, but it's an incredibly cheap game for a genre that was on top in the 90's, and now is in life support. X4, improvements to Elite, and some space combat game from the makers of Redout are coming, so we have that to look forward to. But I can find enjoyment in this on a rainy day. EDIT: I also want to note that a lot of newer space combat games seem to really push a necessity on VR, like EVE Valkyrie. So, if we're talking low budget, this is probably the ultimate example of a low budget space combat game.
Instant Action. The only info you need: Earth is under attack. The controls are where they should be: WASD for movement, Shift for Thruster, T for target, etc. Your mission: destroy the enemy fleet. No market, no upgrades in stations, no dialogues. Just plain shooting. (you can collect orbs from destroyed ships that give you perks) And the lights. You can really feel you are in the middle of an epic space battle, with thousands of lasers blasting in very direction. It´s like New Year´s Eve fireworks. Awesome. If you´re looking for an Arcade Spaceship Shooter, this is a great choice.
Its an average SciFi Arcade Shooter. Its worth the low price of a burger. Couple of hours fun guaranteed especial on split screen mode. Pro -Fly with Joystick or Xbox Controller -up to 4 players split screen coop. -nice graphics -epic battles Con -almost no options to configure graphics so it lag 4 FPS in Splitscreen at start of the battles. -bug as target lock disappears if 2nd player enter game and no one could lock on target anymore, making it impossible to dogfight. -No Mission design let you get bored after a couple of levels. -Game design is like the Flight simulator on Wing Commander or X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. It plays more like a Demo than a full game. (Single player as Coop) I give a Thumbs up cause of the low price. If you have controlers and flight stick you get a competition with a friend who scores most, if you have also a strong PC.
The game is really bad. The controls are awful and the camera doesn't give the sensation of movement.
It's an arcade shooter. It's not trying to be anything more than that, and for the price, you get more than you paid for. It's a lot of fun when all you want is to blast things into bits.
I recommend this game for those interested in the simpler aspects of games like Wing Commander and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. It does lack any of the complexity and richness offered in those games, giving you just a fly around shooter that goes from level to level while you dogfight amongst capital ships batteling.
It's $2 to fly around and blow stuff up with 6DOF controls. I've had far less fun for $2. Give it a whirl, it ain't bad.
