Playable offline with bots. It's what multiplayer games should be. Thank you Strangely Interactive. I hope you guys are making a new game.
Biggest draw of this game for me is that you can host a single player offline server with good AI, and that you can also host online with AI which means you can still have fun with some friends without having to go into a full on dedicated server. Unfortunately it does rather taxes your system to host a game but it is what it is. Space combat is great, ground combat feels dated in some QoL aspects but workable. Another thing is that this game dates back its history from a mod for UT2004 and it's reaching 1.0 in near future. In this age of hamfisted always online era and AI slop, this is one of those truly indie title with a dev team that has passion behind what they made reaching their gold release, if you ever are an indie industry supporter, this one is worth checking out. The game lets you jump right into action, so just read the controls and get lost in the game, if it doesn't fancy you, refund before 2 hours. But definitely, definitely, check this title out.

finding this game in my library is like dumpster diving and finding an OG Bitcoin from '11 eye divine + battlefront buildcraft literally everything (guns, grenades, ships, vics, yourself) Gamepad support preem nova you're missing out not playing this game
Had a blast playing for the first time after years of this game sitting on my radar and wishlist for too long. Put 10 hours in on my first day and I have to say it was a blast. Cannot wait for the improvements in 1.0 and to see what comes next from the dev team. This is a game developed on passion in their free time and deserves more support. The game does feel dated while still feeling fresh at the same time. Honestly just hop into a match and start blasting. Trying a little bit of everything to find your preferences. Community is overall super welcoming to newcomers and will answer questions in chat and their discord. Also the devs remembered how tanks tracks work and actually let your tank rotate in place and can even do a super secret think too if you hold space bar.
Mate I've been playing this game off and on for a literal decade now and my main is usually planetside 2. So this game is quite ambitious and much to it's credit achieves what it sets out to do BUTT. The developers have put all effort into developing features but little thought into polish. Character movement is jank, some vehicles are jank when controlling them like the hover tank. When you take damage it's hard to know from where. Weapon balancing is all over the board. Innovatory management is a mess. It's difficult to see enemies or even tell friend from foe. Difficult to keep track of map objectives. For some reason like the bottom right corner of your screen you'll have a character tracker for enemies but what if you're engaging multiple at a time which is common it just doesn't know what to track. If you try to get a bunch of buddies together you can't keep track of any of them on the battlefield and trying to stay in a squad is rather difficult. Honestly somehow this game makes Planetside 2 gameplay look well put together and that game is running on pasta code from like 8 different dev teams and apparently just got bought by Tencent a week ago. My message to the developer is stop adding features and take a serious look at games like planetside, battlefield, COD, BattleBit, etc and see what they do to tackle all of these peoples and more and take inspiration and make the gameplay flow. If you can manage that I'm sure you can care out a nice little player base but till then it's hard to recommend this game to anyone.
This game itches that BF2 itch; getting in a dropship, leaving your ship-base, and boarding the enemy. Space warfare. Class system. Customization. Hero units. Its cool, and a decent price.
I like this game a lot, which is why it's sad to see it end up like this and sad to see it with these flaws. You'll see more detailed accounts in other negative reviews but to summarize it really simply: The game has a huge identity crisis where guns dont kill unless you only use the double barrel shotgun (one of the few guns capable of doing damage in a reasonable time) and knives are the most lethal thing around even post nerf. Light armor is so fast it ends up similar to TF2 if you had to fight scout but hes on crack but your fastest method of doing damage is the pistol. The netcode in this game isnt bad but it struggles to keep up with how fast these players are and if you are going to have a "i shot him and he didnt take damage" moment, itll probably happen when fighting these players. I didnt think the knife was so bad up until I found a really smart player and skilled player and he would mulch me and my team. I tried to adapt to his strategy but he would actually ignore me and pick off my team instead which then left me without any assistance. The game is in 1.0, development is extremely slow and you likely will not see many changes going forward. The playercount is already in critical condition so finding games outside of peak hours is going to be difficult and anyone still playing is likely a psycho bunny-hopping with the knife anyway. Even at my best moments, I made a build so obnoxious that most other gun users cant kill me without help. I can't imagine it was fun for the other person when my effective health is 4x to 5x their effective health and I can shoot through walls. This game was made by passionate developers, which is why this review sucks to write. I wish them the best, but I didnt even get into some of the other flaws.
This games amazing, its a delight, i dont really play it much more, or at all really, but the devs after a decade KEEP GOING WITH IT im inactive and a ghost in their discord and let me tell you every single week even with a near dead community at their lowest these devs would ALWAYS host community events and ALWAYS reach out to the community. They care, they give a damn, try the damn game, or atleast toss some funds at them.
I'll tell you the biggest problem with AFF: It makes similar games look bad. From now on, in other games I'm always going to go "what do you mean I can't fly to the enemy capital ship, board it, shoot the captain, make its reactor go critical, and escape in an enemy fighter all with no loading screens?" Other games have always insisted "you can't do all that, it's just not possible!" but AFF proves them wrong. It also proves that bots can be good enough to play complex and dynamic assault-style maps all on their own, rather than just following a human around and occasionally shooting at something. Offline and online are both fun, here. Unless you hate FPS games, definitely give Angels Fall First a try!
Very fun game reminiscent of early 2000's scifi shooters, however it is not like what you will hear about in the TikToks or Instagram Reels. They flat out lie and say this game has interconnected ground, space, and internal ship combat revolving around fending off boarding parties who are trying to destroy your capital ship's core or sabotage the ship. This game have these kinds of battles, however, land battles are not connected to space battles. Hear me out though, and don't let these lies clickbait creators, short-form content creators, and AI-generated articles dissuade you. If you like early 2000's scifi "sandbox" shooters like Star Wars Battlefront or even Battlefield 2142, this game does still scratch a long-forgotten itch. Starting with the ground battles, they are your typical combined arms scifi space shooter battles with a scale of up to 32 vs 32 player battles (depending on settings of the server, or the offline game with bots you can pick. And yes, this game does have a singleplayer mode with bots if multiplayer isn't your thing or the online multiplayer is dead in your area). There are some maps with vehicles, some limited to only certain ones, a couple maps with all vehicles, and then some maps solely focused on infantry combat. The vehicles are a lineup of quick, speedy combat "cars" (like MRAPS or Jeeps), Troop transports/IFVs/LAVs (whatever you want to call them), tanks, gunships, and mechs/exosuits (though not quite like something out of Titanfall, they arent massive behemoths. they're more small, speedy suits of armor with a bit of a janky walk animation at the time if me posting this, and different weapons on each arm like chainguns and autocannons.) All in all this variety keeps things very fun. Infantry does have rocket launchers, shoulder-mounted railgun cannons, ect for anti-vehicle purposes. You get access to different vehicles based on your performance on the scoreboard, at which point the game will notify you that the vehicle is available and you have about a timer that will give you an amount of time available to accept or reject the offer to drive said vehicle. If you choose yes, you will respawn in the vehicle as it is getting dropped off by a dropship at your team's spawn zone The game has a lot of premade loadouts for you to choose from, but you can also make custom loadouts. All gear is automatically unlocked, however you "rank up" in three categories, Command, Support, and Combat. Your loadouts are limited by the amount of command, support, and combat points you have, and your profile seems to level these attributes based on actions attributing to these three things (combat by killing dudes, Command by squad commands and what your squad does under your orders, and support by reviving and resupplying allies, repairing vehicles and friendly ship systems, ect.) Everything you equip takes up these points, and by ranking these attributes up, you can equip more. This is true of all infantry and also all vehicles. Fortunately, it counts your progress in both singleplayer and multiplayer together, so you can grind up rank in single player and still keep the rank in multiplayer. However, this customization doesn't seem to negatively affect you too badly at earlier levels and you can still easily go toe-to-toe with more experienced players. You can attach new weapons to troops and equipment like sentries, mines, ammo and health boxes ect. Weapons can also have attachments, and you can even equip a light, medium, or heavy armor suit to each loadout AND customize the suits with armor plates, ammo pouches, ect. Vehicles have similar customization with different weapons and modules. Now on to the ship combat. This is where I believe the game really shines. You can pilot fighters, heavy fighters, bombers, scout ships, ect that all create dogfights. Then you have capital ships such as Destroyers, Battleships, Corvettes, Frigates, ect. You get access actually driving these in the same way you get vehicles in ground combat. The capital ships are maneuverable, but hulking and slow. If you just drive straight into the battle, you will likely get swarmed by enemy fighters/bombers and die. You have to play strategically with them and use the environment's cover, or even travel as a group of capital ships. The Capital ship combat employs many of the same strategies found in a little known shut down MMO called Dreadnought, at least in where you need to position your ship. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Every capital ship is piloted by a player, and they have AI turrets that will follow basic commands. Every (or most) capital ship has a hangar bay to launch fighters. Then there is also another ship in the game called dropships. This is where the "Star Wars Battlefront space battles you have always wanted" comment on the insta reels and TikToks come in. Dropships are slow and heavily armored. you can use them to ram a boarding pod into the opposing team's capital ships, which creates a spawn zone for the boarding team. The defending team can destroy these pods and stop the enemy from spawning, as well as repair systems the boarding team may have sabotaged and defend the bridge and the core. The boarding team can do anything. They can even kill the player piloting the capital ship from the inside. They can destroy ship systems as well. If they destroy the core, there is about a minute timer that starts to count down, signifying to everyone to get to the hangar and escape via a fighter, or go down with the ship. So this can create some fun little battles within the tight corridors of capital ships and all in all it can be crazy to think a capital ship that you can blow up from the outside can have a whole battle going on inside of it too that can also cause its destruction. Despite all this fun, the game isn't perfect or for everyone. The UI can be a lot to take in. This is probably because the game is trying to squeeze combat and squad commands into one game. Animations (such as the mech walking animation) can be a little janky. The graphics look the game came out in the early 2010's at best, thought this seems to be a stylistic choice to really bring you back to the old days. I'd rate this game 8/10. This game seems to be made for older gamers who want to re-experience the joys of old FPS games from the early 2000's that we grew up with and who want to play a game not to really unlock anything, but to just play a game. It's just up my alley.
