Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.

About

Admiral John Byng who spent his life sailing the seas for the British Navy, died in 1757, by bullets on the deck of HMS Monarch. Admiral Horatio Nelson, carrying on with the utmost duty, fell similarly to a French musket shot in 1805.
Now it is YOUR turn to sail the seas of the Age of Sail.
But it would be wise to approach the subject cautiously: practice, improve your skill and your ship and connections with allies. Then you can commandeer best vessels: crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women in global chat.
.......................................................................................................................................................
Naval Action is a hardcore, realistic, and beautifully detailed naval combat game immersing players into the experience of the most beautiful period of naval history - when sailing ships ruled the seas.
Age of sail combat is a personal affair with no dirty tricks, corner camping, or hiding in bushes: you see the enemy from 20km and so do they. Just like in boxing you have to get close; and use all your tactical knowledge of wind, your ship to slug it out face to face. Broadside weight matters, but even a smaller vessel can overcome the superior enemy by focusing on the enemy weak spots.
No game has come closer to the replication of the Age of Sail sailing mechanics and combat. Thats why Naval action was named one best releases from early access in 2019 by Valve!
Beautiful ships – We have been painstakingly recreating the beautiful ships of the Age of sail period. Accurate hull models, sail plans, guns, internal upgrades, historical speed trials were used in the creation of vessels. The game features 50+ ships from small cutters to large 100+ gun 1st rates allowing the player to experience every possible role of that era.

Realistic sailing – Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of realistic sailing will help you win battles in most adverse conditions.
Conquest and PVP Activities Fight for the domination of the West Indies, recreated based on 18th Century maps and navigational charts. Build ships, trade, attack enemies of your nation almost everywhere and capture their ships and Open trading outposts in the ports governed by your clan.
Damage model – Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. Leaks, structural damage, torn sails, demasting, raking, fires, explosions and all other hazards that were possible in that era. Damage is positional: hit the gun and you might destroy it. Gunnery crews are placed deck by deck. Shot can pass through the balcony, ricochet of the gun, hit a crew member and then fly out of the gunport splashing into the water. Armor thickness and wood types affect strength of the hull and cannonballs will ricochet from the hulls at extreme angles.
Built for PVP: Absolutely no hackers.
Hacking is a killer of fun in PVP games. From the start we have built the tech around one main goal - complete elimination of hacking from PVP. Naval Action is one of the few games where hacking is made impossible by design. Every battle action is calculated on the servers, even water and wave shapes. Yes - you have heard it right: there is a special server that calculates and replicates waves to all users in battle. When fighting in Naval action you can be sure you are only facing skills and ship fittings.
Gunnery and weapons – Major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to mortars to carronades and obusiers. Fort and land batteries will provide you with support during battles near shores. Mortar vessels can destroy fortifications, though they may require an escort.

Each gun has realistic ballistics and penetration performance based on historical gun charts and admiralty tests. Heel and wind affect the shooting distance and will require a change in tactics.

I give this game a negative review on behalf of my bf, boooo get off the stage
their badly written description on the storepage says it all ''Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.'' and no i did not take that from the middle of a long text.. it literally starts with ''Or'' stay away from this game

This game leaves a lot to be desired! Just little things in the game show me the developers just don't have a real clue like I have to go turn on the protractor (Compass if you haven't played) every single time I leave a port to use it on the map. I took the perk so the game should know I want to use it and just leave it turned on ! When I go to turn in a mission that is in a fleet ship I have to swap my ships around, ok fine but then because I had to swap my ships around I have to reset my crew every single time I have to swap fleet to main to sell the mission cargo again this is just bad clunky game design! What about the in game economy it is a sailing gamer after all...yea no buying low and selling high just isn't a part of this sailing game! Want to go look up how to do this or that in the game well good luck to you as the developer just seems to change everything weekly so every single video or advice website or Youtube is wrong because this or that was changed and that just doesn't work anymore! What about the DLC ships you ask well once you spend your money they can and have been nerfed as well as you cant just build them out of the material you want you can only pick from like 5 options now instead of the usual 20 options! Finally go check out the size of the player base before deciding to try it out as it is very low population game!
Worse player experience. You begin with a 'basic ship'. You can use it for trading to save in-game currency, and that is what I did. I saved up for a ship I could go to war in and purchased it. Once purchased I was locked into port saying I needed to be 1 rank higher in order to leave. I had 2 options at this point, sell the ship I just purchased for 92% loss or buy a DLC for more 'dock' space. So basically start the game over or buy an expansion to play the game. No thanks. 100~ players online for a reason, I don't recommend playing game.
I started playing about 7 months before they added gunpowder/cannonball, and ever since they added that update, it's been harder and harder to play, and now, they want you to pay for it. Don't buy this, they don't listen to the player base, include the multiple content creators asking and pleading with them to change stuff for the better. I will no longer play this, as I refuse to support a dev that won't listen to the player base.
I Really liked this game when it first came out was fun and challenging but not overly so now with a lot of the changes its nearly impossible to play now. You no longer have unlimited cannon balls and now have to purchase them and gunpowder. But to be honest the game lost its appeal to me awhile ago when it lost the trade runs where you could go port to port and buy and sell cargo. I truly Enjoyed that it was a way to make me plan my routes and i would see alot of the map by traveling around buying stuff that was worth it to bring home to sell. This game Has or had alot of fun aspects like the Crafting was fun now it seems so tedious and time consuming the combat was fun but now without the free ammo its to tedious to get into the big fleet fights the game has become such a time sink its not worth the time for the small amount of pleasure i get from it now. I miss a lot of the old systems and the old gameplay loops where it wasn't such a chore. I can't recommend the game in its current state If some of the Changes made where reverted I could see myself back to playing and recommending it. This game was a great game where I spent many hours enjoying it. Hopefully one day it will return to be playable to me.
OK this game has its faults but if you want to unleash your inner Hornblower, Aubrey or Bolitho give it a go!
Im doing my part! Down voting till things change.
Please nerf the AIs crazy turning ability! Currently, the AI move as if they have bow- and sternthrusters installed. Ruins immersion and in game experience! I would like to start off with the positive aspects of Naval Action: The combat and sailing mechanics feel great. You can choose between many different types of cannons and even some carronades. If I am not mistaken, there are over 60(!) historically accurate modeled ships you can use as a player, each slightly different and unique. The open-world map is large and provides the opportunity to hunt AI War- and Traderships. Another improvement: Crafting ships has become much easier, so it is possible for casual players to do so. Very nice ! During the last years, multiple features were simply taken away, sometimes even leaving non-working buttons in the game. Players used to be able to start the game, activate a combat mission in port, and then start fighting, more or less immediately. Now, not only have these specific combat missions been removed, but new players also have to grind for HOURS (!!!), only to have the possibility to get enough gunpowder and ammo to fight a single ship. The removal of these combat missions also means that a player is now forced to roam the open world to search fo a target, artificially enhancing the grind by making the player waste time before he or she can even TRY to paly the game and decide if they like it, or not. Furthermore, the mission rewards have been reduced immensely; you no longer get dubloons and chests, you get a single reward chest that drops a single upgrade, most of the time useless. Fishing, the only way for a solo player to get the rare woods needed to build the best ships, has been made more annoying, by forcing the player to reactivate it every time something is caught. The "break up" button is still in the game but no longer works. Nobody knows why, it used to work. But by far the worst thing that was removed is the way thickness worked. Back in the day, lower-caliber guns had proportionately less penetrating power than larger calibers, as is historically accurate. This made it possible to build thick ships that could bounce enemy fire if correctly angled. Now, every gun has the same penetration power (except Navy guns, which have even higher penetration) of 160, rendering thickness fully useless. Even with the thickest possible builds, it is only possible to bounce shots at incredibly steep angles. This change took away a huge amount of combat possibilities and gameplay, which has made this game more boring as a result. Another problem: Forced Monetisation Crucial aspects like dock space for your ships and storage space in the warehouses in port have been drastically reduced. While it is possible to grind dubloons to expand both to a certain point, in regard to dock space, it is simply not enough. Fully maxed out, a player gets 10 slots for ships. Keep in mind, there are over 60 ships in this game! There is the possibility to spend about 70€ and buy more dock and warehouse space, which is just immensely overpriced and a total ripoff. Don't forget, these "privileges" used to be available for every player. The scams: There used to be two shallow water dlc ships; the Hercules and the Pandora. With the release of a new shallow water DLC, both of these LOST their main selling point, their ability to sail in shallow waters. These ships have been nerfed to promote the newly released DLCs, which should serve as a reminder to NOT buy anything from these developers, as the things you spend your hard earned money on will be significantly changend ("enshittyficated") in the future if it helps to sell newer dlcs. I first downloaded this game nearly ten years ago, in May 2017. I have seen its rise to a great state and, sadly, its fall to the way it is now. It would be great to see this game succeed, but with constant reduction of features and gameplay, further forced monetisation it will die out even more. Edit: In the last patch notes, a set of "quality of life improvements for new players" was announced. Maybe the developers will now start to implement stuff that actually adds to the game's experience instead of killing it.
