Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.

About

Admiral John Byng who spent his life sailing the seas for the British Navy, died in 1757, by bullets on the deck of HMS Monarch. Admiral Horatio Nelson, carrying on with the utmost duty, fell similarly to a French musket shot in 1805.
Now it is YOUR turn to sail the seas of the Age of Sail.
But it would be wise to approach the subject cautiously: practice, improve your skill and your ship and connections with allies. Then you can commandeer best vessels: crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women in global chat.
.......................................................................................................................................................
Naval Action is a hardcore, realistic, and beautifully detailed naval combat game immersing players into the experience of the most beautiful period of naval history - when sailing ships ruled the seas.
Age of sail combat is a personal affair with no dirty tricks, corner camping, or hiding in bushes: you see the enemy from 20km and so do they. Just like in boxing you have to get close; and use all your tactical knowledge of wind, your ship to slug it out face to face. Broadside weight matters, but even a smaller vessel can overcome the superior enemy by focusing on the enemy weak spots.
No game has come closer to the replication of the Age of Sail sailing mechanics and combat. Thats why Naval action was named one best releases from early access in 2019 by Valve!
Beautiful ships – We have been painstakingly recreating the beautiful ships of the Age of sail period. Accurate hull models, sail plans, guns, internal upgrades, historical speed trials were used in the creation of vessels. The game features 50+ ships from small cutters to large 100+ gun 1st rates allowing the player to experience every possible role of that era.

Realistic sailing – Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of realistic sailing will help you win battles in most adverse conditions.
Conquest and PVP Activities Fight for the domination of the West Indies, recreated based on 18th Century maps and navigational charts. Build ships, trade, attack enemies of your nation almost everywhere and capture their ships and Open trading outposts in the ports governed by your clan.
Damage model – Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. Leaks, structural damage, torn sails, demasting, raking, fires, explosions and all other hazards that were possible in that era. Damage is positional: hit the gun and you might destroy it. Gunnery crews are placed deck by deck. Shot can pass through the balcony, ricochet of the gun, hit a crew member and then fly out of the gunport splashing into the water. Armor thickness and wood types affect strength of the hull and cannonballs will ricochet from the hulls at extreme angles.
Built for PVP: Absolutely no hackers.
Hacking is a killer of fun in PVP games. From the start we have built the tech around one main goal - complete elimination of hacking from PVP. Naval Action is one of the few games where hacking is made impossible by design. Every battle action is calculated on the servers, even water and wave shapes. Yes - you have heard it right: there is a special server that calculates and replicates waves to all users in battle. When fighting in Naval action you can be sure you are only facing skills and ship fittings.
Gunnery and weapons – Major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to mortars to carronades and obusiers. Fort and land batteries will provide you with support during battles near shores. Mortar vessels can destroy fortifications, though they may require an escort.

Each gun has realistic ballistics and penetration performance based on historical gun charts and admiralty tests. Heel and wind affect the shooting distance and will require a change in tactics.

Long-time Player Review (3000+ hours, 5+ years) I have spent over 3000 hours playing this game in the past five years, so my feedback comes from a place of passion and commitment. In the early days, both the gameplay and community were strong and engaging (2020 to 2023). Unfortunately, recent updates and decisions have taken the game in directions that many long standing players did not ask for or want. Some updates reversed community driven changes due to complaints from a single nation, and it often feels like favoritism influences development. Communication from the developer on Discord can be negative or dismissive, and constructive criticism tends to get deleted. This atmosphere makes it hard for players to have their voices heard. The shift from free to play to paid access, combined with few meaningful additions to content (like new ships), has made it increasingly challenging for the game to attract and retain players. As a result, player numbers have dropped significantly. Many experienced players have left, and the community is much smaller than before. If you are considering joining, please be aware of these changes and the current state of the game. I no longer recommend investing time or money in it, unless the developer listens to community feedback and supports a healthier environment. Having spent over 1100 hours on this game i had built a lot of ships with made of the best woods and port bonuses with the best cannons, top rank, thousands of resources, millions of reals and hundreds of thousands doubloons. I recently log back in to find i have NOTHING, yes absolutely NOTHING now. Do NOT waste your time playing this game, put your time and money elsewhere.
I don't usually make reviews at all for the videogames that i play, however i believe that the current state of Naval action warrants it (and my recommendation regarding if i recommend naval action or not is subject to change in the future if i see reason for it to change). Over the last 10 years I've played naval action, and initially it looked like a promising game, it had the core features/gameplay, and of course there were bugs and issues, however a lot of those were resolved. The main gripe at this point in time however is, that the game development has shifted to a different studio altogether (however is being developed by the same initial developer), and in doing so, all of the development from the last 10 years was, simply put, reverted. It really is demoralising to play a game that you believed would be a "breath of fresh air" regarding tall ship combat, or the step-up in game play that you needed after experiencing everything what Napoleon total war offered, would suddenly "burn the house" that you essentially "lived" in so to speak, and then in an slow, micrometer fashion, place each new brick of this figurative house down, as to rebuild it. To add to the above, there is an obvious communication deficit between developer and players, and no matter how much you love the game, and no matter how much constructive feedback you give to the developer, a majority (except for, maybe a select few) of the comments/feedback about the game, falls on deaf ears. There are many games out there that don't listen to their playerbase either, and there is a reason why their playerbases are shrinking, while other games who listen to their playerbase have actual, meaningful growth. It is not rocket science, this is a fact. So please, if you guys in the dev team for Naval action sees this review, this is not an attempt to destructively damage your reputation or to bash Naval action. It is a plea of genuine concern from a veteran player who values the game, and hopes to see it thrive as it once did. Naval action still deserves a chance, it's just a question of when. I know there may be players who see this comment and have a laugh, but this game really did have potential in the beginning, and it still does, however change cannot happen without influence and support, and so i am doing my part to bring about positive change for naval action.....perhaps we might even get to see the North American server again so that my ping can stop being at a constant 300ms (that would be actually fantastic if that were to happen). Anyway, thanks for reading this, and if you've bought naval action and you're a veteran, don't loose hope!
Well. after a time not playing the game, i came back and find my port empty ... All my ships gone, all my stuff gone, i spent over 700 hours in this game, and everything gone !! I dont see the point to wipe a server because of updates, and ruin so the hours people invest in this game, basically you play for scraps over and over again. Devs need to learn that people walk away from such games where things like these happen. THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING THIS GAME !!
It is just bad. Looks like a gem, plays like a confusing mess of hidden mechanics that will leave you saying, "This isn't what I thought I was paying for." If you are looking for a sailing simulator, it will feel like an arcade. If you are looking for a MMO, it will feel like a ghost town. If you are looking for an action game, it will feel like a grindy eco sim. If you are looking for playground bullying, verbal abuse, elitism, and game changing updates that pander to the very few OG's, you will find all of that. Finally, if you were tricked into buying one of more of the shiny DLC ships, you won't be able to play with them until you grind your way past all the other BS listed above. Don't buy this game. I regret wasting my money and, 300+ hours of time.
I used to have a good bit of fun in this game. The economy got jacked up by an "improvement" so I uninstalled it a couple years ago and recently decided to redownload it and try again. So....I have nothing....the repeated wipes will ensure you never get too far ahead. The DLCs used to come with basic cannon....and now I have to buy shot and powder? WTAF!!! This 100% guarantees that no one who starts this game will keep it unless they enjoy repeated and pointless logistics exercises. You DEVS really managed to run this into the ground. Congrats.
This game is so old, and after the last few decent updates, they switched the game to paid access. What an idiotic logic for an extinct game—new players will never appear in a game with so many negatives. Take another negative review for another stupid decision. I was actually going to give you a positive rating just a few days ago. I made a mistake. A chciałem wam jeszcze kilka dni temu dać pozytywną ocenę. Pomyliłem się.
Headline: A Slap in the Face for Veteran PlayersAs a veteran player who paid full price for this game years ago, I am deeply disappointed. The developers have completely ruined what used to be a great Age of Sail simulator. Here is why you should NOT buy this game:Anti-consumer choices: Paid full price, went Free-to-Play, went paid again, and now they wipe servers and ban alt accounts that they previously encouraged.Horrible economy: Ammo and gunpowder are overpriced. You lose more money winning a battle than losing it.Insane grinding: New and returning players are forced to act like cargo delivery boys for hours just to afford basic cannonballs.Arrogant developers: They actively ignore community feedback and ban anyone who criticizes them.Save your money and your time. The current state of the game is an absolute joke
This game has no future. The devs pretend constantly tweaking damage meta constitutes content. The grind for levels is slow and unrewarding, even if you by scam dlc ships you can't crew them. The AI rng will just burn you down with a fire if you attempt to grind. Established clans prey on the few new players in a count that barely tops 400 on weekends. Do not buy this game or any dlc.
what once was a great game has been ruined by these devs, do yourselves a favor and look into Ahoy instead 2/10 too many (very expensive) DLC
