Are you a millennial elder emo cosy gamer? This game is for you. In all seriousness, Moonlight Peaks offers up a lot of nostalgia within a cute, spooky aesthetic that makes my inner child happy. It hits the sweet spot between Stardew and Animal crossing while still being its own game with reasonably fleshed out NPC's and lore. The gameplay is not complicated or challenging, so if you're just looking for good vibes and something to help you slow down; this might be the one.

After putting in an unhealthy amount of hours in this game I can say: "Damn this is good". There is so much to like about the game. People who love Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing will also enjoy this game. The gothic aesthetic and atmosphere is wonderful and I love everything about it. Every interior of every house is beautifully decorated. The characters are interesting and some are very likeable and some are less likeable, which I like. Of course there are some things that in the long run get a little annoying, like for example not being able to cook multiple instances of one recipe. When you cook a lot and have to do the skill checks every single time it gets a little annoying. Or when you place a lot of seeds, due to the animation of the seed placing it takes some time. These are really small complains, other than that I am loving this game. Maybe I will update this review in the future when there have been some updates to the game.
Sehr liebenswertes Design.
I truly love it, keep up the great work Dev's...
Cute game, with a bit of a tragic backstory for several of the characters which are alluded to, but rarely spoken of. The stories are compelling enough that I very much want to know what happened in the past to result in all these single parents in town. Who are dateable along with their grown kids. It was certainly a choice, to be able to date both a father and his son, at the same time. A choice which I made. The townsfolk have yet to comment on it, but the year in-game is young. Perhaps there will be some drama further down the line... As for the Count, he made a comment about how weird it was for me, a Dracula, to date his daughter, and a week later agreed to go on a date with that very same Dracula, so.... He's trouble. Love the aesthetics and color palettes, and the farm animals are ridiculously cute (and you can talk to them when you transform! 12/10 game mechanic) I also love the progression, where multiple areas of the town are shrouded in mystery and a fog that blocks access until you progress in the story. The town keeps growing bigger and bigger! Spells require memorizing a pattern sequence, which is a bit tricky with my ADHD, but you can look up the sequence in your almanac if you forget it. I love collecting things, so I am thrilled that there are so many collections to fill, not just for the museum. In addition to typical museum collections, there are also cards to collect, lost soul blobs for Death, and squeaky little vampiric critters. I thought I was doing something wrong when I hadn't unlocked bat form by the end off fall as I thought I remembered it being available in the demo, and had to look it up. It turns out that it's unlocked late game and part of the story progression, and therefore unmissable. It's an unusual choice to not permanently track the liked/loved/hated gifts for the townsfolk, with only the most recent gifts and their reactions being tracked. If you gifted something they loved 11 gifts ago, that memory is gone.... but there are guides here on Steam, and also, the impact for forgetting in-game isn't really noticeable in the long run. Can't go wrong with gifting juice or jam fresh off your farm. 6/10 game mechanic I also love the mechanic of a storage system that is unlimited, accessible both indoors and outdoors on your farm with a click of a button, and that recipes can auto grab from this inventory whenever you are on your farm. You can build storage boxes, but there is no need for any whatsoever. Handy, useful, sleek and streamlined. I also like how the tools are separate from the backpack inventory, so they don't take up any travel storage. 40/10 game mechanic(s) All in all, I have encountered no bugs or issues playing on Steam Deck so far, but to be fair, I did wait a couple months for the bug fixes to roll out first, so I am thankful to the early players for reporting bugs, and to the devs for fixing them. The only thing I felt compelled to look up so far, was how to unlock bat form, as I was worried it might be bugged or missable. Turns out that all I needed was patience, so I'm happy I didn't miss anything after all.
It's been a while since a cosy game has held my attention this long! I think the slower burn is good for someone like me who plays a lot of games of this genre and so can find them too easy or predictable. I kept going because I wanted to unlock the next area or magic trick or find out what happened with the girl in the woods... I would say this is very similar to Wilde Flowers in the importance of the story - don't neglect to make friends. I wasted a lot of time wondering what to do next when I just had to speak to villagers. Having magic to water your crops for you is a huge bonus and there are only something like 22 fish to catch which is amazing because I HATE fishing!! All in all, a good game and one that is being continually updated.
I love this game. It's cute and super easy to play. It is a VERY chill game. So if you prefer fast paced/action packed games this one is not for you lol. It's like if Stardew and Animal Crossing had a cutesy vampire baby lmao.
The game starts of good, but in fall first year the game slowed down so much that I find it difficult to pick the game up again. I do not think it's worth full price at all.
For a bit there at the beginning I wondered if I wasted money on the game and wasn't quite hooked. I'm not sure where along the way I got wrapped up, but now I'm loving the game the more I play it. It is VERY cute. I really love the characters, mechanics, and decorating. It scratches the same itch as animal crossing for me, but with romanceable characters. The quests and story are actually fun, and it has more story than you'd think. I don't think it's fair to compare it to stardew but with all farming games, there is that comparison. I definitely think the story and QOL is better in Moonlight Peaks. To not spoil anything, I will say the mechanics go deeper than you'd think including casting spells by drawing them out. I'm torn between three romance options, which is saying something! Usually I know who I'll go for right away. I've seen a lot of character nitpicking online and I really don't agree with it except on Orlock. He's kind of flat and one note... but ugh he's pretty. Lol. I really don't care for the chibi sprites but the portraits are so so good. I think if you settle into this game, it really grows on you. The music is so peaceful it just lulls you in. One note: if you find your story is stagnating, stop going on dares for a bit as they push story events out. Also, make sure to do the board requests and talk to everyone!
