Polecam.
Slay the spire and monster train veteran here. Over 5000+ hours on each. This is the first time possibly ever, at least I have no memory of it, that I disagree with a less than positive review on here. I actually really like this game. I think the cards are well made, i think the game loop is fun. For what its worth from a card game veteran its worth checking out.

Monster Slayers is basically a fun little mashup of deck-building and dungeon crawling that's fine for killing an hour or two. The card combat starts off super snappy and fun, making those first few runs feel like a total breeze. But honestly, the strategy gets old pretty fast since you can't build really wild, game-breaking deck combos like in other card games. You end up relying way too much on lucky card draws instead of actual brainpower to win. Grab it on a heavy discount if you just want some mindless deck-slinging, otherwise you can totally skip it.
Basic turn-based card-collecting RPG with enough different characters to sustain interest for a while. It was a great introduction to card-collecting games and dungeon crawlers for my 8yo, and he and I both still enjoy playing now that he's 10.
roguelike deckbuilders aren't for me, otherwise that's all I'd be playing, what with the 25 billion titles around and more coming out every single day. easily the most oversaturated genre these days. something must've drawn my attention to this one though, so I gave it a shot but threw in the towel pretty fast. others with more experience have explained the issues better, I simply got bored faster than the cards could drop.
Generic roguelike deckbuilder, nothing special, but I can't hate it for it.
This game is HIGHLY underrated for the price. I have over 700 hours in Slay The Spire and this is probably the only rouge lite deck builder that actually has the same amount of variety albeit in different ways. Deck building is concise and rewarding, and progression feels really good when you get stronger. I found myself playing this from time to time even though i cleared the whole game. Also the original dev got the game back recently and is planning on releasing new stuff if that's inticing enough. (got the game for 2 bucks while on sale btw so it might be worthwhile to at least wishlist to get a sweet deal)
Monster Slayers is a decent deck-building roguelike in concept, but the gameplay itself becomes repetitive pretty quickly, and the progression doesn’t give me enough interesting choices to make each run feel different. The upgrade system is especially disappointing. Each character only has 3 upgrades, while each companion has just 2, so there isn’t much room to develop or customize your builds. Overall, the game has some good ideas, but compared to other deck-building roguelikes, it feels very basic and underdeveloped. Not recommended.
There are good rogue-like deck builders and plenty if meh ones. This one is up near the top of that Spire (haha) for many reasons. In fact, it's a bit of a banger. Reinvigorated since it's original form (which - yes, predates STS) and back in it's original creators reinvigorated hands, this gives you all that progressive lushness through large variety and diversity. You start with a number of different archetype choices, with further to unlock and of course each has their specialisms as well as mutual cards, spells and actions. On top of that there are other various modifiers to be won, learned or earned, and different support team members whose special move can help you cross the archetype streams. Like all the best rogue-likes this gives a HUGE amount of metas to explore for each character type including upgrading, card deletion tactics and different power builds. And of course, you cant expect to win a run on your first go - your character will learn and gain the skills over a number of runs to eventually topple the big baddie. Typically you'll need around 5 runs per character. It's all done really well and is really moreish. The graphics are on point and I particularly love the voice work, snappy one liners full of bravery, sark and smugness - funny oftentimes too. Most importantly it's very very playable, works like a dream and tight, with no unnecessary baggage or annoying menus. If you're a completionist, you're looking at dozens of hours of trying things out and although it can get repetitive after a while it doesn't get boring. I'd say it's not quite as intricate as Slay the Spire (I Know, but it's the most obvious comparison to use) and not as hard / uncertain at the endgame once you've maxed your build, but is right up there and with much more choice and variation. Beware on the DLC options, buying the additional architypes might support the deserving dev, but really you want to unlock these via progression, so if you wanna throw a few extra bucks at them, maybe buy it AFTER you've unlocked them yourself? Great stuff, and a fair price too
Kind of a poor man's Slay the Spire. Better in some regards - faster feeling of progression and more variety, better map based levels.
