Potent and dense writing, characters with powerful voice, and style for days. The cliffhanger is rather rude in this one, but the second volume has been out for a while now and it's fabulous. If you pick it up (and you **must** pick it up), be sure to check out the image gallery that unlocks when you beat the game. There's some lovely stuff that you probably skipped through in your playthrough.
This taught me (and probably many others) about the concept of an anchoress. What an awful notion, and what a great starting point for a murder mystery! The viewpoint of someone being thrust out of total isolation is very compelling. Notably good soundtrack as well.

What can I say about this game that has not already been said already and in a better fashion? Perhaps, that calling this just a "game" or a "visual novel" falls short of doing it justice. It's an integral ouvre, crafted with a clear idea in mind and by a person with a rich understanding of how people relate to themselves, to each other and to the world. It's a rich experience that not only people coming from the gaming world, but also from literature in general will be able to appreciate. Just marvelous.
i think darcy shouldnt use apostrophes, because other than that she talks just like me and it feels weird to see my own words but with apostrophes in them.
My friend who really likes Umineko bought this for me. She said it was really good. It is. And it is also very Umineko in the ways I rarely see, especially that secret scene, so if you like Umineko, specifically the metafiction aspects and trying to figure out whether the events in a story are literal magic or have some other explanation, then you will like this. Ended with one hell of a cliffhanger and you better believe I'm going to buy the next part.
not to be dramatic but i cannot stop thinking about how good this was
im so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glad i listened to the reviews and got this game. i haven't been this absorbed in a story in so long. the art, the music, the writing. and medieval nuns !! i love nuns !!! the characters were written so well i grew fond of all of them. i never write reviews but i just had to for this. also i've heard there's lesbianism in vol. 2 i cannot wait <3 (playtime: 13 hrs -- longer than i expected)
This game is a fascinating murder mystery set in a monastery in the 1400s. If you're a fan of virtual-slash-visual novels in general, you should definitely check this one out. i especially like the greyscale graphics, and the filters that make environments resemble the graphics from World of Horror, in a way -- it's nothing exceptional, it's just a filter... but I appreciate the style of it far more than the typical VN stock photos that are often bad enough to be immersion-breaking (I'm thinking of those terrible environmental photos that were used in Fate Stay/Night and other VNs of the era, especially). The score is also nice and moody: it sounds a lot like Portishead (sans vox) in places, which is a bit strange considering the setting and date of the story... but it definitely contributes meaningfully to the well-delivered smoky, noir ambiance in which Misericorde wraps its central detective mystery.
what the hell
