this patty wagon outfit... mwah welcome entry into the msf series, neat and cools :)
A great puzzle game.
Of course, it's a Wayforward game... so it can't be anything but excellent ! Fans of Mighty Switch series should be pleased to see a new title, and for the others, I'd warmly recommend to try it ;) And as in every Wayforward game, characters are so cute ^^ ♥
If you played any of the Mighty Switch Force games, then you should know what you're getting into. The only difference is that the game offers local (sorry online multiplayer fans) multiplayer. It's also same screen multiplayer, as I can tell from the screenshots. I can't say how multiplayer works, because of, you know, life, but playing it by myself, it's not that bad. It has the same great gameplay, and it still has a few puzzles in there. I would've like the ability to remap buttons on controls, as I feel that's the best way to play for most 2D platformers, and the key rebinding does feel limited in some ways (seriously, I can use space to jump when I'm pretty much conditioned to use it by other games?), but I'm sure it will be added to the final release, and with this being Wayforward, the same guys who made the Shantae series, Ducktales Remastered, and Double Dragon Neon, I'm pretty confident that this will just be another trophy in their shelf. Ten dollars may feel a bit much at the moment, but with it being Early Access, it's pretty much like pre-ordering a game, just with the chance to help the devs by giving ideas. That said, whether or not you want to take the risk is up to you, the buyer. I would recommend the weary to wait for the final product, but either way, this will be a good starting point for newcomers, since, from the desciption, it's like a prequil in some ways. It will also be interesting in how the final product will come out, since, as you can tell, I decided to take the risk.
Let me preface by saying that although my playtime was limited with my home account, I can assure you all I've played a great deal of the game with my fiance, as well as on my own with a friend's account. Now, to the review. Mighty Switch Force Academy proves to be one of the most promising titles delivered by wayforward, and with it's development promises (including the community-shaped patches and changes), it may, upon 1.0 release, become something bigger and better than both MSF and MSF 2 combined. The replay value for this title currently has its ups, as getting par time is always fun, and the incentivising music and quirky enemies will keep you playing for awhile. Admittedly, the music IS the same from previous titles, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If they could get virt on some more tracks for this (which they probably will), I'd wager to say it'd make the experience loads better. It should be noted, however, that this game may not seem as appealing to newcomers to the series, as it takes heavily from the first game, this time with a zoomed-out camera. This is perfect for those MSF fans who love to speedrun, since it's made easier to plan out moves much quicker. Oh, and while we're on the topic of speedrunning, the game makes it pretty darn fun to do so. Learning the layouts and applying your skill with the Switch mechanic and the platforming really makes for an excellent experience. My hope is the game will eventually deliver an integrated Workshop for players to share their layouts. It'd be interesting to see an incentivised player course system where things like custom skins for Patty or equipable spritepacks can be rewarded to players who complete a course on the Workshop (these rewards would be created by the same author of the course). A man can dream. All in all, if you haven't already played the Hyper Drive Edition of the first MSF, then you should probably get your feet wet with that one, since I can understand the apprehension behind purchasing an early access title. If you're already familiar with the series, get this game, and support it! It's got great local multiplayer, and a par-time counter just like previous installments. Its already a fun game where it stands now, and it'll only get better from this point on, so get in on this now if you want to have an effect on this project's early stages of development.
There's no flaw in this game.
Attractive female characters.
