I cannot recommend this game in its current state. The scope is far narrower than the earlier entry in the series, Men of War: Assault Squad 2, with less environments, factions, weapons, units etc. The graphics are nice, but that alone cannot elevate this title from its substandard quality compared with earlier titles. I was hoping Men of War 2 would take inspiration from Call to Arms: Gates of Hell, an excellent game (inspired by modded MoW: AS 2) with similar features but leaned more towards realism. Unfortunately, the developers retained the basic arcade mechanics from earlier titles, rather than leaning further into the realism that made Gates of Hell such a strong evolution of the formula. However, I cannot fault the developers too harshly for maintaining a system the series itself is built upon. Therefore, when this game gets more investment and its scope is broadened, I will consider returning to it. For now, it is not worth a try unless you are a hardcore Men of War fan and are committed to the series, in which case you will probably enjoy this game.
I got banned from the forums for asking about Britain and Japan. Seeing this as a 10$ deal to immediately refund because it is literally a downgrade from assault squad, unchanged from what the beta was. Screw you Fulqrum.
The negative reviews seem to be outragously misleading for where the game is now. From what singleplayer campaign I've played, the game doesn't force arcadey gameplay on you like health bars more so than the previous title had. I don't like that they tried going down that route, but there is fun to be had here. It's not a total write off. It has the option of realistic damage and that's all I'm interested in playing. It felt just as good as the previous title. Unfortunatly for anyone running Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics, AFAIK, the game engine (like the steam reviews pc specs sheet) doesn't know how to utilise the shared RAM as VRAM without errors. So even though my specs are enough to run on low settings at 50+fps, texture tearing was rampant after 20 minutes of the first campaign mission. Apparently due to a memory leak with the unfamiliar hardware. Funnily enough, I'm able to play MOW:AS2 fine on this hardware. Even had better luck playing Gates of Hell: Ostfront on this, although it eventually hits a brick wall in their conquest mode after more units -including from DLCs I don't have- are pre loaded. For the toxic PC MasterRace ♥♥♥♥♥ out there, Iris Xe splits the general RAM in half, so it has virtual 8GB of VRAM. Works perfectly for hundreds of games, does have problems with a few others, unfortunatly, this is one of those.
