Mass Effect (2007)

Mass Effect is probably one of the best Space RPGs ever made. However, I recommend buying the remastered version with all the three games, as well... You get all the other three Mass Effect games with it? I 100,000% recommend this game (just avoid Andromeda like the plague)

I can't believe I missed this incredible game when it came out. This is a top quality title with incredible art, writing, voice acting, controls, and animations. Few games of today can match the smoothness of this one. Likes: 1. The expansive universe and the ability to roam freely for most of the game. 2. Smoothness in transition between areas/maps. 3. Overall quality of the writing, story, and voice acting. 4. Combat dynamics and controls. 5. The addition of a usable vehicle to explore various planet surfaces. 6. Character depth and different alien race backstories. 7. In-depth dialogues that added a lot of richness to the story, and the overall dialogue functions. 8. The overall universe that was created within the game that leaves room for much more story and exploration. Dislikes: 1. There were two levels that, for some reason, never properly loaded the moving bit maps, so they showed up as black blobs. Probably had something to do with the age of the game and software incompatibilities with modern hardware/software. 2. The galaxy view map is a bit overwhelming. I wish it had some sort of tracking to let you know where you had already been and if there was anything left to survey or explore. I visited some planets multiple times by mistake not realizing I had already been there and done everything. Some systems were hidden to me until I realized I can "move around" the nebulae to find systems that were not visible from the default view. 3. Some key points on interest not showing up on the maps (intentionally). I understand the mineral points not showing up, but still is a strange story continuity issue... if you can "survey" a planet that you can't land on from orbit to find stuff like mineral deposits, why can't you do it for the planets where you can make a landing? 4. The game's money system. At first, everything is prohibitively expensive, then evens out, then everything seems super cheap towards the back 1/2 of the game. I ended the game maxed out at $9,999,999 credits and nothing to spend it on. It would have been nice to have more unique items in the various stores. 5. No control over the ability points spent on your crew. I really wanted the decryption and electronics skills to advance on my team members before other skills, but I had no choice, so had to wait until I got to a certain level overall to be able to open the most hardened containers/computers. That made for a lot of disappointing backtracking near the end of the game. 6. The all too predictable and poorly written love story addition to the plot line. Would have liked to see better writing around that topic, or just avoid it entirely. 7. Not a whole lot to entice playing through more than once. There are some decisions you could re-do and alternate story lines at key points, but not to the point where I feel it is worth replaying the entire game, but perhaps others do. Overall - If you really liked the original Deus Ex, then you will really enjoy this game. Very similar in overall concept (RPG+Shooter) and quality. This one had more features/finesse added on the top. Plus the ability to drive a vehicle with a functional tank-like cannon! Boom!! Totally awesome. If you catch this on sale, all the better, but still a good value even if it is not.

love the entire series if you like rpgs then i defiently reccoment this one as well as the other 2 after this one truly a classic game i can come back to again and again

I genuinely appreciate this game and believe it to be a fantastic experience. However, it's important to note that there exists a remastered version that surpasses it in quality. It would be wise to consider purchasing the superior remastered edition for the ultimate gaming enjoyment.

It might be a little long in the tooth, but this game is one of the all-time greats. I'm playing it through again trying to do everything I can before moving on to the second one. I played all three games when they came out, but I'm on a quest to take the same character through all 3 games for the first time. It's so immersive and fun.
