Magicka is a satirical action-adventure game set in a rich fantasy world based on Norse mythology. The player assumes the role of a wizard from a sacred order tasked with stopping an evil sorcerer who has thrown the world into turmoil, his foul creations besieging the forces of good.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 14 → 3.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It's quite a miserable experience to run this game on modern hardware, and even more miserable to attempt to beat it given the brutal difficulty curve, but I would be remiss if I didn't recognize it does more things well than poorly. To be fair, I don't see myself playing it anymore. It didn't really click with me. The humor and lore/plot are a bit cringey and get old very soon. It's not terrible, just not great either. But what really didn't land with me were the controls, and consequently, the combat. Magicka's spell system is really, really intricate and deep. This means expert players are capable of bending the elements at will, casting shields, imbuing weapons, placing grenades, using projectiles, beams and AoE attacks when they want. But it requires so many button presses that are placed so close together that it felt like my fingers were playing DDR. In order to keep alive and the DPS decent, you have to type faster with your left-hand than a Twitch mod banning slur during a CoD livestream. Half the time I was using memorized spells, the other half I was dead. It is a deep system, but really hard to grasp and too much for my smol brein. That said, it's a game that looks and sounds lovely, and while the challenge level is high, it's also somewhat fair and varied for skilled players (I can attest seeing pros playing on Youtube). Multiplayer coop must be a lot of fun. But it's hard to recommend this game given the instability issues, the arcane controls, and the overall frustration that comes with it. Buyer beware, this might become one of your favorite games, or something you simply hate or play out of spite

This is fun as hell, but it WILL crash nonstop, 4 minutes of playtime for every 10 minutes spent crashing Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicka/s/TGk32qvjgA Someone made a patch oh my god it's beautiful
Game crashes constantly, and loading between chapters also crashes/jams. There have been no updates since 2018, so a fix is never going to come. Unplayable, do not waste your time and money.
Magicka is ze greatest vizard disaster simulator ever made. You press buttons, summon death, explode friends, heal enemies, and somehow call zis “teamwork.” I, Vlad, who is absolutely not vampire, approve very much. Ze robes are stylish, ze magic is powerful, and ze survival rate is deeply insulting. One moment you are hero, next moment you are smoking pile of regret because friend tried “helping.” 10/10. Vould explode again. Still not vampire.
game broken and not maintained, crashes regularly regardless of specs
Note that as of present day, Magicka frequently causes issues on modern hardware. There are helpful guides on how to downgrade your version to one that actually runs, I had no technical issues in a full co-op playthrough when playing 1.4.16.0 version. Also note that this game has a hefty amount of DLC, some of which have achievements and have their own issues with running correctly in present day. Completionists may want to avoid this game. Magicka is certainly a flawed game that has its charm. The main gimmick here is being able to combine elemental spells to be able to attack in different ways which made the first few hours of just messing around really fun; that was until the frustration set in. Many enemies in this game will just one shot you. I love playing difficult games normally, but this doesn't mesh well with the unique combat system of experimenting with different spell combinations. The best way to handle any combat situation was one of two things: spam lightning bolts on outdoor levels, or try to get enemies wet so you can freeze them and throw a rock at them. At some points the best option was to just rush past a section entirely. Despite the game giving so many options, I quickly felt limited with how I could approach combat. I think that Magicka definitely had the potential to be a really good game, but the last few hours I felt I was playing out of obligation to see it out. The game's comedy was fine at first but also felt worn out by the end, especially with half of the humor being references that by now are incredibly dated. I don't blame them as much as this was 2011, but still. It's something I only lightly recommend against as there is a genuine game underneath all these problems that had a lot of effort put into it, but it's ultimately a relic of the past that didn't age as well as it could have. There are still people that are passionate about the game many years later for a reason, I wish that the game still kept getting updates for their sake.
