Look how they massacred my boy...
I wanted to get into MtG, but the matchmaking made it difficult for me to enjoy the game. Also the mix of characters from so many other universes makes it feel less like Magic, more like just a card game

youre going to spend 3 minutes waiting on your opponent to play their cards just for it to be the same meta slave infinite combo deck some idiot pulled from reddit. doesn't even have all the cards. takes forever for interactions to resolve when this is something a digital card game should excel at over physical. trash
hATE IT
I've been enjoying mtg arena because the gameplay is excellent and matches are fun. The game is not truly pay - to -win . since you can unlock cards by playing. However, the biggest issue is how long it takes to build the deck you actually want if you don't spend money. Progress as a free- to -play player is very slow, abd just when you finally complete a deck, new sets with hundreds of new cards are released. Then you have to start collecting again, which makes it feel like you're constantly falling behind. overall, it's a great game with amazing gameplay, but the cart economy and the constant release of new sets make it difficult for free- to - play players to keep up.
You spend an equal amount of time and effort battling the games programming as you do trying to play your opponents. MTGA is aggressive in trying to maintain a 'balanced' win rate of 50%, and will stack its 'randomizer' accordingly.
One of the worst games I played. I used to love to play mtg when I was younger. But this is nothing like that. As a new player my expirience was horrrible. Cards you get you cant use in ranked, so making your dack is a horrible expiience. Matchmaking is bad as well. The dacks you get at the start are fun to play against bots and nothing else
If you're dead set on playing Magic with friends from a distance, this might be worth it, but this is a VERY subpar experience to playing physical magic. I tried playing with a buddy that had also just completed the tutorial. He had way more than the 5 starter decks available, whereas my game instance had the same "extra" decks he had listed but every time I tried to select them, the system said there were invalid cards (again I'll note that we were completely matched on settings, progression, and game version). Even disregarding that, half the online challenge games we tried to play would freeze up when the game host selected to start game, resulting in the game host showing an INCREASING count "down" (AKA the count down turned into a perpetual count up) and the guest seeing the host glitch out. When it works, it's fun, but I cannot recommend this as it stands barring some major code improvements (hey WOTC, stop vibe coding maybe?)
