About
Macabre is a high-stakes co-op horror game where stealth is survival and the Rift is never the same twice.
Maps shift, objectives change, and the monster adapts. Scavenge rare resources and fight the urge to panic as you stabilise each Rift before it collapses.
Survival isn’t guaranteed. Escape together or abandon your team to save yourself. Trust is fragile. Betrayal is easy.
One truth remains… It’s Macabre.

You will not be able to shoot your way out of this nightmare. Macabre is about stealth, cunning and wit. Stick together to survive, or betray your teammates to keep the loot for yourself.
Just remember, Macabre preys on those who stray from the pack.

Luckily, you meet a fellow Rift enthusiast named Banjo, an eccentric survivor who guides you with his knowledge and gear. He is your lifeline, offering equipment and upgrades that give you a fighting chance. Spend your resources wisely.

Macabre learns as you play. Rely on the same tricks and it will adapt. Each encounter forces you to improvise. Distractions, stuns and even sacrifices may be the only way out.

Every run is a gamble. To keep what you have scavenged, you must reach the Extract alive. If you die, you lose everything. The Rift does not forgive mistakes, and neither will your team. Greed, hesitation or betrayal can be just as deadly as the monster itself.

While avoiding Macabre, you will scavenge powerful artefacts and strange items from fractured timelines. Every piece of loot matters. The right equipment can reveal hidden truths, distract the monster or help you survive long enough to escape.

No two runs are ever the same. Each Rift reconfigures itself with randomised layouts, shifting objectives and unpredictable monster behaviour. You will never feel safe, no matter how many times you enter.

Macabre is a co-op survival horror game from Sydney-based Weforge Studio, an indie team with a passion for horror and multiplayer gaming. Our aim is to deliver one of the most immersive multiplayer horror experiences on Steam. Early Access marks the first step. Revenue from sales will be reinvested into continued development, and we plan to expand the game with new maps, monsters, puzzles and chapters as development progresses, guided by player feedback.
Macabre’s design is shaped by years of gaming experience. The adaptive AI channels the tension of Alien: Isolation. The extraction style risk and reward loop reflects the intensity of Hunt: Showdown and Escape from Tarkov. The social dynamics of trust, betrayal and chaotic teamwork take cues from DayZ, Phasmophobia and Dread Hunger.
At its heart, Macabre is about people. In-game VOIP creates unpredictable alliances, rivalries and betrayals. Just like our co-founders Jay and Jake, who first met through voice chat in DayZ, we want those connections to feel real.

... As a kickstarter, it has potential but needs a lot more updates. Will try again later at some point.
I've played 3 hours when it came out and it was so solid! It had it flaws and my hope was that they would improve it. Sadly I came back one month later only to find the SOLO EXPERIENCE is UNPLAYABLE and couldn't even play for 1 hour. The Monster will find your relentlessly and even kill you through obstacles making it more annoying than scary. Stop trying to be a friend slop game and take the horror aspects seriously, people will find it hard to compare you to Alien Isolation when you are pushing the friend slop agenda too hard. Stick with the gritty coop horror game where you and your friends have to outsmart the creature. But also think about the solo players right now that might want to enjoy the game before it blows up on socials. Here's a thumbs up to keep the developers going. I will check back in with the next big update.
Macabre has a great foundation for a unique extraction experience. My co-hosts and I talk about our first impression on episode 117 of the CoinDrop Podcast which you can find at the link below. To touch on some of the things this game does right; Coverage of Macabre starts at about 1:03:00 https://youtu.be/zSyZi6oOvE4?si=suynoX4hNpOs-9o0 - The tension is far more real and authentic than any other extraction-like because you can't really fight back against the monster. - The lack of music and focus on real world sounds builds tension rather than taking it away. I love that your character audibly starts to breath harder as the monster approches which really helps build the horror elements in this game with out over reliance on background music. - I'm looking forward to watching this game progress and grow as it moves through EA. I don't generally like Extraction games but Macabre has a chance to do something very special and very fun if they keep plugging away at it
i have fully enjoyed each and every single time i have played this game. from the developement of the monster to the way the landscape looks and how the characters intereact with things. this game is a fun game to mess with your friends on. grab some mates load up this game and mess around a bit, have your stealth moments to your sheer terror moments this game has it.
I have waited for this game for years and it did not disappoint! This game is hard to play alone, so recommend getting a crew. Can't wait to see how this game continues to grow. See you in the rift birdies!
I like this
Jump scares are wild, make sure you have a stable chair
Macabre is a unique spin on the horror game genre, but still fails to execute anything even remotely well. Macabre utilises a very unique setting, the Australian outback, and is one of the best parts of the game. It even includes all of the sounds from native Australian animals which was an incredible addition. However, the gameplay itself is your simple run of the mill horror game, similar to Dead By Daylight or something like that. The objectives are quite simple, and of course you need to go around and collect items to porgress. The monster design isn't anything all that special either. I will admit though, the main tool that players use in Macabre is actually quite innovative, and is really cool to use. However Macabre has terrible optimisation and even the best PC will experience choppy gameplay. The graphics though, are quite the sight to behold, especialy for an indie game like this. Macabre, like majority of the other indie horror games before it that it is trying to replicate, has the potential to be fun, but as per usual, just isn't there yet. 4/10
