M1 Tank Platoon II

Unfortunately not worth it right now. The game itself is great and while its age shows through its graphics, the gameplay loop is as satisfying and engaging as ever. However, it's not being shipped in a great technical state as of now. You are able to run it "out of the box", but only in Software rendering mode (which downgrades the visuals significantly). Furthermore, you may encounter some glitches that'll require you to tweak compatibility settings or edit your graphics card settings manually. Meanwhile, using third party wrappers and online guides, it's very possible to run this gem through Glide rendering, with silky smooth graphics and even widescreen support. This makes it hard to recommend this Steam version, with its current technical shortcomings. Plus, at 8 bucks the price is pretty steep for a such an old game that doesn't run at its full potential... I remain hopeful the publisher will resolve these issues in time :) Once that happens, this game will definitely shine!

Be warned, this does not work out of the box on windows 11 (which is a shame as i have great memories of this game). Buy at you're own risk.

It's probably still the best tank sim of all times. With a 161-pages manual full of interesting stuff with pictures (a real leisure reading), the good graphics (yes), the atmospheric sound effects, chatter, small cutscenes, all contribute to the sense of realism and feeling that you're in a realistic, although a bit dated, simulator, and not just playing a game. But fear not if you aren't a big fan of manuals and long tutorials - this sim is really easy to get into. I remember playing it without the luxury of having a manual when I was a kid. I was really surprised that it [b]runs fine out-of-the-box[/b], I remember it wasn't straightforward to run this game the last time I played.

Don't let the graphics put you off of this 90's classic from sim specialists Microprose, it's a great simulation game, with a fantastically deep manual and an interface that makes issuing orders to the various units under your command an absolute breeze, both artillery support and infantry to a degree are modelled here and the game has dynamic missions, several dynamic campaigns and in depth tutorials and multimedia guides included. The game has 3 graphics modes - Direct 3d, Glide and Software, Software rendering although the least graphically appealing is the most stable way to run this old classic and still looks ok. Microprose always struck the perfect balance of realism vs gameplay and this is one of their very best games, well worth a look or revisit.

Used to play this as a kid and I have no idea what I was doing besides marking waypoints that rush my units straight into enemy positions while I lase enemy armor and fire the main gun (and repeat the process), great time I had, and years later when I finally understand how I'm supposed to play this game I couldn't get it running proper on a newer PC. Now that there's an official version on Steam that's supposedly optimized for modern system so I quickly buy it, it's not as well as I thought (namely the tiny resolution of 640*480 and limited on software render mode) but using 3rd party workaround I can make it work in glide mode(not sure if the same method also work on those old copies from the 90s). This may not be ideal for some people but to me it's not too much of a hassle. Other than some technical issues the game itself runs fine, challenging gameplay, AI is decent enough that they can engage enemies fast, manual gunnery is satisfying, most of the things age like a fine wine. Overall I'm glad that I can see this classic tank sim officially again, especially considering the lack of proper tank sim on the market these days. Technical issues is there but it's not as bad as I tried to get an old copy to run on a newer system back then. The team that picked up on this game seem to be active enough to further optimize and fix this game for modern system so props to them.

I have been waiting to play this game on current systems for a long time! I still think it is the best modern tank simulator on the market, and the dynamic campaigns are excellent.

这是款90年代末的游戏，与其说是游戏不如说是一款训练软件，其精妙的地方在于无论你想作为连排级指挥官，或一名精良的战车驾驶员、射手等都能够从中得到很多启发。 在该软件的背后，是一次著名的东70-73象限坦克大战，而承载其战斗的是第二装甲骑兵团的联队。 该软件可玩内容虽然不多但制作在当时而言是精良的，在今天看来画面和音乐等内容也非常值得借鉴。 然而，该软件在目前的电脑系统（兼容模式）上频繁出现闪退、退出战斗时卡死等情况，让游戏体验失色很多。 此外，游戏本身虽然具备教学内容，且与游戏本身体验有相关性。但教学内容未能与操作界面相关联，可见该软件作为游戏有一定的不足，但的确是一款很值得纪念的软件。
