Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife

Among the various Luxor match-3 titles, this one actually tries to do something different. Instead of having a single path to follow you have to decide where to go in a quest to collect pieces of different artifacts as well as battling meddling thieves. There are multiple level modes which freshen up the usual experience a little bit, particularly battles where you have to be faster than the AI in making matches. Moreover, there are no lives so the coins can be used to purchase skins and power up the power ups. Furthermore, a separate and short puzzle campaign makes for a good chance of pace once your adventure is over. Nonetheless, the experience isn't free of flaws as your companion brings in voice acting that can't be skipped and makes for some mildly annoying waiting times. You may encounter glitches here and there as well as the "weaving" levels which I consider to be among the worst designed in the franchise as they leave you basically up to luck to beat them. This is because new scarabs block your way to older news until the very end and sometimes the scarabs like to go faster for no apparent reason. If you can get past that and appreciate the usual "Egyptian epicness" vibe that it's going for, then it's totally fine. Then again, there are probably better alternatives to this in the market nowadays.
