KINGDOM of the DEAD

Gameplay Review: Beautiful artstyle and decent gameplay with good basics but not much complexity. Audio design is crisp and satisfying but also feels off at points with a lack of impact overall. It starts very easy and ramps up a bit in difficulty towards the end (normal or 2 star difficulty for my first playthrough) but nothing major in terms of difficulty spikes. Story gives decent basic motivation to continue with text based Dialogue which leads you to investigate many unique places. I took my time playing through the game and restarted the first level a few times to try and play it on my steam deck or make ultrawide work but under normal circumstances it's about 2 to 4 hours long depending on playstyle. Performance Review: PC: Performance was all over the place and i was jumping between 60 and 500fps in the first level depending on which direction i lwas looking or if my view was obstructed. Later levels seemed more stable but i was still noticing inconsistent framerates and it can be quite jarring at times. It might be a Linux or Proton version problem but due to it stabilizing to a acceptable state after the first level i continued playing through the game. Steam Deck: It was not playable properly on my Steam Deck. I could not get the game to a playable state due to performance issues and framerate somehow being tied to sensitivity of looking around. I'm sure there are ways to fix it with other Proton versions or other means but performance will still be a problem (not necessarily avg framerate but getting the game to not fluctuate so much between 20 and 90 fps so drastically. Ultrawide 21:9: You can technically play it in Ultrawide but UI does not scale to it and will basically not be visible due to it zooming in but it did not seem to do that for the in-game graphics. I would still not recommend to play it that way because the image seemed to stretch vertically especially on the outer edges and because of that you only gain a slight amount of extra view.
