Juicy Realm is a roguelike game in which players must square off against bizarre fruits all across the world. The line between the animal and the plant world has become blurred, and the food chain has been completely disrupted.

美工不错,但是可玩性太差了,同质化过于严重,而且boss在自己身后召唤小怪一点都看不见
Too easy, too few randomness.

Ahh, it's a no from me: completed on my first playthrough in 48 mins. I appreciate that a harder difficulty is unlocked and there are some other characters to play as, but why would I want to go through the while thing again when it wasn't that interesting first time round?
不推荐。后期弹幕过于密集没有红外圈等视觉辅助难以躲避,双人模式下尤为明显。构筑系统浅尝慎止,很多修正的作用只有污染道具池。但是考虑到是2018年的游戏,还是给了好评。
My score: 5.5/10 ⭐ TL;DR: A fun and ridiculous roguelite with plenty of characters, weapons and modifiers, but repetitive content and game-breaking bugs make it hard to recommend. 🟥 NOTE: I can't recommend this game in its current state. Several known bugs significantly interfere with the intended gameplay, including one that can make a character virtually invincible. Some of these issues have been known for quite some time, and I couldn't find any recent indication that the game is still being actively maintained.
Overview
A fairly standard roguelite with a fun and completely bonkers premise: an asteroid has fallen to Earth, turning fruit sentient and causing it to rebel against humanity. Your job is to go around slaughtering pears, bananas, peaches and whatever else nature has decided to weaponize. The game clearly descends from The Binding of Isaac's branch of the roguelite family, minus the darker tone and imagery. The roster of characters and weapons is varied enough to keep things interesting for quite a few hours. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the maps and enemies, which become repetitive and occasionally rely on some genuinely annoying mechanics. There's also a rather unfortunate elephant in the room: I quickly discovered that one of the characters is effectively invincible due to a bug. This completely removes any semblance of challenge, allowing me to breeze through the highest difficulty and experiment with pretty much every build I wanted. "But if you know about the bug, why not just use another character?" Fair point. But once you know the game offers you an opportunity to play it in this flawed state, especially when you're hunting achievements or trying to unlock things, it becomes hard not to take advantage of it. I'd feel silly deliberately handicapping myself when I know there's a way around the grind. The downside is that the game consequently loses much of its appeal as a challenge. It's still fun, especially in couch co-op, but even while playing with another person and taking advantage of the invincibility bug, I found the overall experience surprisingly grindy.
One Thing I Liked / One Thing I Didn’t
✔️ Liked: The completely unhinged sense of humor behind some of the weapons. ✖️ Didn't: Some of the enemy mechanics. I have developed a genuine fear of pomegranates.
Key Points
[*]
DIFFICULTY:
You can unlock difficulty modifiers fairly early, allowing you to make the game easier or harder by adding or removing handicaps: zigzagging enemy projectiles, restricted field of view, limited health, and so on. Achievement hunters beware: you'll eventually have to play with all the difficulty modifiers active at the same time. [*]
PRESENTATION:
The graphical style is pleasant, if a little sparse and derivative of more famous works... The actual character and enemy design quality is all over the place: some designs are genuinely good, while others look suspiciously close to placeholders. The final boss, in particular, looks almost unfinished. Sound effects are cute, but they can get tiring after a while. [*]
STORY:
There is a story, but it's deliberately silly and never gets in the way. [*]
GAMEPLAY/GAMEPLAY LOOP:
A fairly standard 2D roguelite loop that becomes considerably more enjoyable in multiplayer. [*]
TECHNICAL POLISH:
Unfortunately, the game is affected by several visual glitches and some significant bugs, including the game-breaking invincibility bug mentioned above. These issues have a real impact on the intended experience. [*]
MONEYxCONTENT VALUE:
I played for 18 hours at a €10 price point, so by my usual "more content for the money is better" rule, the game passes with flying colors. I don't mean €1 = exactly 1 hour—it's simply my shorthand for judging how much value a game offers relative to its price. If this game were regularly updated and its bugs fixed, I'd consider it worth every cent. In its current state, however, the lack of maintenance makes it difficult to recommend.
I’m always so grateful for games with actual art direction. Juicy Realm is a great looking game, its cartoony style perfectly complementing its gonzo plot about an evil extraterrestrial tree seed falling on earth and causing all fruit to come alive and wage war on humanity. You must fight your way through heavily-armed apples, pears, and avocados in order to destroy the tree and turn all the fruit back into fruit. Tonewise it reminded me a lot of Unholy Heights — it knows exactly what it is and it leans as far into it as it can. This game is pretty fun, and its relative small dungeon — four main floors plus a small final boss realm — makes it great for short playthroughs. The 10 characters all feel very different, and some of their powers are pretty off-the-wall, like the girl who can summon a mech suit and the one who can dual wield. I liked the variety and the balancing, and also liked that the character upgrades could be small but also be juuust enough to push you meanigfully forward. I also enjoyed the logbook and variety of very practical achievements as some extrinsic motivators (though I wish there weren’t co-op ones…). I always felt like I knew what I was trying to accomplish, which is something a surprising number of these games really lack. I do think there were too many weapons. Really there were too many types of individual weapons — we didn’t need multiple wands, multiple shotguns, multiple SMGs. This matters because weapon can make or break your run, and they’re not easy to come by, so if you have a run where you only roll one of the too-many ‘joke’ weapons you’re just kind of screwed. There were something like 90, and I think that number honestly could have been halved and still felt like it offered a ton of variety, especially since some of the weapon effects were really clever and unique, like the trophy, the keyboard, and the frog. But there were also ones like the wands where the difference was really cosmetic, and having three just meant you were 3x as likely to get something useless. I think if they’d limited themselves to one of each type, maybe two for more useful types, if would have made things feel a bit more balanced. This was more of an issue on early runs, before your starting weapon is maxxed out (though some starting weapons are so ♥♥♥♥, like the panda’s, that your entire run always depended on rolling a good weapon at some point, and it made a couple of the classes really miserable to play). I liked the difficulty options, and enjoyed the way each additional level of stars felt like it forced me to recalibrate and play a bit differently; it felt like meaningful changes in the way the game worked and not just “enemies now have a billion hp, sucks to be you” like these games sometimes do. I also actually briefly played it coop, and it was nicely chaotic and a good time. On the whole, while I don’t think this is a game that’s going to convert anyone to the genre, it’s a standout to me, way above other small games in the genre like AK-xolotl, Rogue Labyrinth, or Blazing Beaks.
