And I thought I could not be surprised nor hooked after Yakuza 6... What a fool. Judgment is awesome, I felt the same enthusiasm as playing Yakuza 0, the same will to walk the streets of Kamurocho instead of running and the same sadness where fighting Amon knowing that it would be over after that. The story is great, like really. It is more serious and more complex than Kiryu's and It's really a breath of fresh air. The writers really went all in on this one and let the story unfold bit by bit, baiting you into thinking "Oh I KNOW what's going on now", only to surprise you with smart and interesting twists. Characters are really great and you feel attached to them quickly. Antagonists are badass, classy - and even frightening sometimes. Combat is fluid and very innovative with more Wing-Tsun and Aikido moves, making it very distinct from Kiryu's style. It's also very refreshing to see a game just after Yakuza 6 not trying to bait nostalgia and actually move on. There are very few callbacks to the license and It's great because the game actually does not need it. It stands on its own without help. This game also has the best OST of the franchise yet and some of the best dynamic intros as well. I had a great time and I recommend without hesitation, even to the franchise's newcomers as this game really feels more like a standalone and less like a continuity of the original saga.
The story is a banger ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the combats good too the only mechanic that REALLY pissed me off was mortal wounds, also the trailing missions suck but the game is solid
