About

While Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison earned her codename defusing bombs for the Global Defense Force, when evil transhumanist mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes the members of his cybernetic cult onto the streets of Neo D.C., she knows it's time to start causing explosions instead of preventing them.
Her quest to slay Heskel leaves a trail of carnage throughout huge, multi-path levels filled with gigantic explosions, more secret areas than we can count, and inhuman foes behind every corner. There's no regenerating health here; stop taking cover and start running and gunning.
Shelly's crusade to take down Heskel's army will see her leave destruction in her wake with a wide arsenal of weapons, complete with alternate fire modes and different ammo types. Her signature revolver, the tri-barreled Loverboy, brings enemies pain and players pleasure with both single shots and Old West-style hammer fanning action. Who needs a regular shotgun when you can load buckshot into your grenade launcher? Violent, over-the-top Bowling Bombs rip enemies apart with ease.
Ion Fury laughs at the idea of mandatory checkpoints and straight paths through shooting galleries. But, just because this is a true old-school first-person shooter doesn't mean we've ignored all the good new stuff the last two decades have brought. Headshots? Hell yeah. More physics and interactivity? You betcha. Widescreen, controller support, and auto saves? 3D Realms and Voidpoint have taken the best of both worlds and cooked it all into a bloody stew.

ION FURY is a standout boomer shooter, and has quickly become one of my favorites within the genre. This game is a spiritual sequel to DUKE NUKEM 3D, and it runs on the same legendary game engine, Ken Silverman's BUILD ENGINE. If you love DUKE 3D or other build engine shooters like BLOOD or SHADOW WARRIOR, then ION FURY is an easy recommend. Across the board, this game's quality and attention to detail are remarkable. ION FURY has incredible level design and episodic progression, challenging and diverse enemies that always remained satisfying to take out, and one of my favorite selection of weapons within a retro shooter. ION FURY's 28 level campaign is awesome. Levels are rich with environmental detail, and contain innumerable interactables such as light switches, security cameras, toilets, vending machines, power generators, and more. This is a staple of build engine game design, iykyk. These level layouts are varied, intelligently designed and super fun to progress through, and I don't believe I've ever had more fun secret hunting in ION FURY compared to any other boomer shooter. There are only a small handful of levels that I wasn't crazy about, and even those are still competent and fun. I only wish there were more secret levels, as there is only one in the campaign. The enemies that challenge you in ION FURY are another excellent aspect. There are many different kinds that are gradually introduced at a steady rate, and each new enemy expands the complexity of ION FURY's combat encounters. Certain enemy types are very deadly demand to be dealt with quickly, while some are fodder with easily dodged projectiles. Every enemy is easily recognizable by silhouette and sound design, making ION FURY's enemy encounters easy to gauge and allow the player to quickly formulate an attack plan. I don't want to spoil enemy specifics because it is a treat to progress through the campaign for the first time and familiarize yourself with each enemy type. ION FURY's weapons kick ass. Many have an alternate function that can be utilized by right-clicking, and I always enjoy when shooters design their weapons this way. Every single weapon has scenarios where they excel and learning the ins and outs of each one was so much fun. As I tackled the game's hardest difficulties and greatest challenges, I even learned to love the small handful of weapons that I initially wasn't crazy about. ION FURY's DLC titled AFTERSHOCK is absolutely incredible. It features a new 15 level campaign with new enemy types, power ups, alternate ammo types and a new weapon. The sickest feature of this DLC are the levels that feature the new quadcopter vehicle, which is lightning fast and packs a serious punch. The base game campaign is a blast, but the AFTERSHOCK campaign is even better. Also introduced in the DLC is a remixed campaign called ARRANGE MODE. This mode mirrors every level layout, completely changes enemy placement, adds in all the new weapons and enemies and powerups from the DLC, and even changes certain level designs. I love this mode. There are numerous other side modes that add additional content and playtime, so if you end up enjoying the game, there is a lot of content to keep you occupied. ION FURY rules. Easy S tier boomer shooter.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Yippee-Ki-Yay, Motherf*cker!
One of the best modern "boom shooters" now just with a female hero who has as many one-liners as a movie marathon of 1980's action movies. Heck a lot of her one-liners are references to 1980's films in the best way possible that left me laughing repeatedly with her timing of them.
At first I bought this game only because I was impressed by its technical achievement, and I wanted to support the developers. However, this really is a good game. If you like boomer shooters, you will like this game.
So this game is almost good, but I dropped it near the end. There's some really crappy sound design in this game. Multiple times the background soundtrack will play on top of diegetic music in the game like in a mall or on top of a jukebox. Competent devs will usually make the background music fade as you walk toward said jukebox music so that the songs are not playing on top of one another simultaneously. This happens multiple times. While the effort to make the protagonist witty and fun like Duke Nukem and Caleb from Blood ALMOST worked, they ultimately failed because she CONSTANTLY REPEATS THE SAME PHRASES again and again. I know you can turn off the voice over, but devs, c'mon. I'd rather have competent VO since some of the lines are charming and immersive for that 90s feel. But how many times do I have to hear that lame "worthless consumer model" line!? Like it was funny the first time, but the literal 20th or so time I heard it was just so annoying. It's like being trapped in school with a neurodivergent kid who can't stop vocally stimming on a phrase he heard in a cartoon over and over again. Is it really that hard to bind certain phrases to particular sections so they're not repeated ad nauseum? Or could you, I don't know, have the actress say just a few more lines!? While the shooting and movement did feel good, the overall gameplay just kind of feels stale near the end. Hard to put my finger on why. A little more enemy variety might have helped? Maybe I should have played on the hard difficulty rather than the default difficulty, but I've played easy shooters before that felt more fun than Ion Fury. The final straw for me came near the end of the game. I was kind of feeling meh about it, but wanted to finish it. Then there was this really tedious and dumb puzzle where you have to uses three switches to line up three quickly revolving doors to get a keycard inside. Well, I got them lined up enough that I was able to squeeze in, but I COULD NOT GET OUT. I tried for a few minutes. Since I hadn't saved for a while and the game does not give you an option to load the last checkpoint, I just blew myself up with bombs. The checkpoint was at the beginning of the level and would have me repeat like 15 minutes or so of boring gameplay. So instead I dropped the game and I'm writing this review. Other minor nitpicks: I can't map anything to the 2 side buttons on my mouse like I always do for FPS games--one button for the shotgun and the other for a rapid fire weapon. There's also fall damage which sometimes feels unnecessary for how not-that-high up you are...but it doesn't matter because there's also too many health pick ups. This game isn't terrible and will scratch that Duke Nukem 3D itch, but I personally wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for it when there's so many better, cheaper FPS games out there. C tier game for me. It's a shame because building a new game with a classic engine is a really awesome idea, but there's just not enough polish here for me. Play Cultic instead. Best boomer shooter ever.
Salt gave me this game on Xmas 2023, even though he knows I hate annoying-looking women. It's fun, though. Thanks Salt. :steamsalty:
