Amazing and immersive space shooter game that I cannot recommend. Its dead. I genuinely feel bad because this game has genuine ambition and a TON of talent and work put into it. The devs truly cared but alas, life had other plans. I wish them the best but either way, dont buy it.
*** Don't buy this game *** The devs stopped working on Interstellar Marines in 2019 when they ran out of funds. Interstellar Marines is still fun but has more or less zero players. The game is only enjoyable if you want to fight robots alone, or, if you invite others to play with you in coop. Today we were 3 players online today but --- don't have too high expectations to see other players. IM has very few coop servers at this point; the only 4-player-slot coop server is in the US. In the EU we have only a couple of 2-player-slot coop servers. I started playing Interstellar Marines back in 2014/2015. Yesterday I returned after a few years absence. IM had one of the best scifi coop gameplay experiences at that time. R.I.P. (Unless Resurrected)

Bought this game when I was 18 and fresh out of highschool. I'm 27 now...
I actually really like Interstellar Marines. It's really sad what Happened to ZPS Hicks and Zero Point Software in general. In short? They slowly ran out of funding, and the entire team had to be laid off after 2015. He's pretty much a solo dev at this point, and has only in recent years taken on willing people who want to help develop for the game without being able to pay them. The game is pretty good, if you look at it in that lens. I hope one day Hicks can genuinely make this game his dream like he's always wanted, but what I see in this game is ambition; like my friend Chris and our friends and I had in highschool; we wanted to be game devs, like any teenage gamers do. We brainstormed, dreamed, and thought of so many things. We even saw and played IM's flash games. It was innovative and super cool. We were really excited for the future, I was like, 17. Now, I'm 24, and I'm just sad for hicks.. I can't have known how that must have felt to him, you know? But he keeps on, despite not making any more money, and having next to no one to help him. PITY PARTY ASIDE THOUGH the gameplay is pretty smooth and looks pretty good for 2013, and I hope that a pistol model gets added sometime lmao so I can actually use the pistol happily I made this review more in the hopes that ZPS Hicks reads it and it gives him a bit more determination. Everything will be fine in the end, dude, don't give up, and keep safe. ♥
devs abandoned the game due to lack of funding and the team left but i must highly recommend this game to anyone who has friends. coop servers are up as well as pvp so if you have friends or like being tacticool highly recommend. only 10$
Randomly came across this again today. Wow. Probably one of the most depressing games I've ever bought. The gameplay was great, atmosphere, controls, it wasn't all that buggy for an early access. Content was limited but highly replayable and fun. Goals sounded realistic. Devs listened and cared about the project. This game was such an underrated masterpiece. And now it's dead. Hard not to be bitter about that, but the funding wasn't cutting it and eventually it became too much for the devs to handle. What a shame man, what a shame. I can't suggest anyone to buy it. Multiplayer was the entire point this game, and there is simply 0 people playing it. Hopefully we will see a revival one day.
it is a dead game, unfortunately. It was one of the best Tactical Shooters back in the day, huge potential, SCARY coop missions --- land sharks were promised and such. Its now 2025. No update in like 6 years. Last update was the stupid Christmas event on the PVP matchmaking. I don't know what happened. What went wrong. The entire prospect seemed great, people even paid extra for Founders and Signature editions and --- the game was never finished. Did they waste their funding? Did they spend it on escorts and sniffing white powder? I don't know, I didn't look into it, but I bet you can find on YouTube what happened. Its a real shame. But at this point, this game should be removed from Steam, as its clearly not going to be updated.
Let me make this clear. This game was fantastic, but the keyword there is "was". Everything in the game was amazing; weapons felt realistic and tactics were encouraged. PvP was great, and teamwork was the way to win; maps would change randomly and weather would change. The missions they had were terrifying and amazing, and they really got the heart racing. Development stopped because they ran out of money. Not because the developers don't care; they do. They just don't have the funding. And because of that, I'm saddened to say that they game is mostly dead. I would recommend not purchasing it, as it doesn't seem to be risen from the grave. If they happen to get the game development started again, I'd happily jump on. This was a fantastic game and I loved it so much.
--GAME IS DEAD DO NOT BUY-- So close... it came so close and then development just vanished after losing their devs and funds back in 2019. Since then, there's been no new patch or even a kind of "state of the game" briefing. It was a great game, especially for the time a few years ago. The sound and lighting especially was very impressive. I bought the spearhead edition over 10 years ago shortly after it hit early access and had a blast with one of my friends playing the co-op missions which are actually still fun today but there's literally one playing. This game had a hardcore spooky sci-fi atmosphere and you fight creepy pissed off robots in the dark, it was really fun. We were supposed to eventually get 4 legged mutant sharks to fight which would of been awesome, but it never happened :( Well, rest in peace IM. Despite the love and passion that went into this project, sometimes good things just aren't able to come into fruition.
A tragedy that came out at the wrong time
