if you played Firewatch and have been itching for more of that tasty story based, multiple choice answer, first person role-play goodness this is the long awaited spiritual successor you've been waiting for. the fun twist being that you spend the game in your cozy booth (much like Delilah in Thorofare Lookout) giving directions to your friend Valerie who is out in the danger. the responsibility of directing Valerie to safety is a real thrill and there's a lot of other really neat things to find and play with in your booth. if you're looking for fnaf this aint it. there are no jumpscares or monsters going to come and GET you, you are safe.
Interference: Dead Air is a game with an interesting concept. You're working as a security guard in a booth somewhere in a secret laboratory in 1980s. And when the accident happens you need to guide a scientist and at the same time your friend through a laboratory to an exit as you know the map. Also you always need to have under control the power in a laboratory, otherwise something will kill Valerie. The game is mostly a text choice with a possibility to explore the booth. There's a lot of interactive things in it but interactivity basically is just in throwing things with a couple of minigames and secrets. It's a pretty short game - full completion in about 1-1.5 hours. And it doesn't really motivate for a re-run because you can't skip the same dialogues that you've heard before. Exploration once done also doesn't draw in in subsequent times. The game looks pretty good. But, there's only one location, so it would be hard to evaluate how the game would look in a different way. I liked elaboration of many details in a booth. Interference has a strong voice acting and a good soundtrack, good sound design. But the one thing that really make me want to grumble is impossibility to listen Valerie when I made power reroutes because her voice and the voice from the phone were interrupted each other. Also I couldn't relax to read the notes because always when I started to read, Valerie started to speak somewhere in the middle. Verdict. Interference caused mixed feelings. I liked the story and the voice acting but feels like the gameplay wasn't fully though out. You can't really explore and play the main part simultaneously as it was conceived. It's a fun little game! Extremely good vibes, I had a lot of fun doing word searches while maybe some people died of neurotoxins. Perfect for a nice evening, settle in with your briskuits and taytoe skins, and you'll have a good time helping your old friend not die maybe, and make at least one new one (more if you count the booth plants and pigeon, which I do).

Good
Game's pretty good. Very short. Get it on sale, $15 is a lot for such a short game.
I really hate that I have to give this a negative. There needs to be a "Neutral", Steam. Just do a flat hand, sideways thumb, or something and put "Meh". I have a two personal rules (maybe more I don't think about) when I choose to buy games now: 1) I have to play the game soon after I buy it. Managed. 2) It's a game I think I'll get 1 hour of meaningful/enjoyable gameplay per $1 spent. I got this on a sale for $6 and I'm sad to say I'm probably not going to manage 6 hours of gameplay. I overestimated how much this game would likely deliver.
This review has spoilers and I'm not sure what to mark because most are mild, so I'm just going to warn you now with a heading to just stop reading my review here if you actually want to play the game.
Other reviewers cover well how little there actually is despite how much there seems to be. I can open the guard gate, but why? I don't actually do my job or have a relevant use for it at any point. I am 3.5 hours in and I very casually completed 3 endings of what I assume are 4 or 5. I've explored a vast majority of what's in the booth (probably 95-99%). I think it says a lot that there's an achievement to get 25 baskets and I expected it was one, if there were an achievement. How would you casually get that many baskets in this short of a game? I went to check mine just to see if I missed something because I felt like I almost completely finished the game, and I missed a couple basic things that will probably be finished in the last(?) playthrough. Why do I have keys to things I can't even get to? It just feels like the devs had ideas and then abandoned them. Where do I start with Valerie? My first problem with the writing is that I can't relate to it, so I can't really say how harsh I can reasonably be with it. I would never avoid telling a close friend I was moving. The whole time she's being a ♥♥♥♥♥ to me, guilt tripping me, and just being generally unreasonable, I'm thinking "I'd never do that." and it just kills the immersion and it makes her seem even worse than she already is. This feels like she's my girlfriend in some toxic relationship where she's trying to control me and make me feel like everything is my fault and gaslighting me into thinking I'm a horrible person. This doesn't at all feel like a friend. She's a love interest or was in the past. Otherwise, she really needs therapy. To be fair to whomever wrote her dialog, there are a couple good moments when you're sarcastic/sassy. I just generally hated it and the fact the entire story wraps around her isn't great for anyone's overall impression of the game. The writing isn't very deep either, as I got the good ending without even trying. You'd think resolving differences with someone this thick-headed would be harder. I didn't even give her time to think when she asked for it, which I'd think would just completely ruin her trust. The other issue I have with the writing is that a lot of the choices don't change the outcomes/dialog. e.g. I sarcastically suggest they line up to die to the killer alien and what do they do? Ignore me and give the default dialog. Do I regret buying this? Not really, but I didn't pay full retail. It's a cool experience for the most part. It's just really disappointing how little actual substance there is to it. I can't recommend this for $15. I feel like I paid $6 for a $3 game. Based on comments I read, I guess it's the dev's first game, and I assume it's a small indie team so I get why there'd be places it lacks and can't live up to the bigger studios. At the same time, I've seen solo dev games beat out AAA games for content and quality, so it can't be an excuse/crutch. You can always limit the scope and price if your vision for the game is beyond what you can reasonably do. I hope they add more to the game and don't abandon it. I'd swap this to positive if they did and it made the game live up to the potential it had--if I could easily pour 15 hours into it, I could likely recommend it. I understand, though, if they don't do more than minor bug fixes and the like. It'd take a lot of work to get it where it can live up to that price tag.
It has a certain vibe to it but ends way too soon. I wish they made a longer, more intricate version or preferably built upon this version and expanded it with a DLC or something (which I will buy and prolly change this one into a positive review). (Turned it into a good review, because I felt bad and the Dev was really nice. I really hope they release more content. This vibe is unique!)
This game is really fantastic! I played this on the SteamDeck, where it runs great by the way (got many of the achievements too on the SteamDeck). It is graphically really well done, I felt some of the puzzle pieces were too well hidden, but great to find your way through these though. Very ambient sounds and music, and the voice acting is phenomenal. I still haven't been able to fully help my friend, but I will eventually get there, I hope! If you are on the fence, I can only say, get this game, it is wonderful.
Nice little game, although quite short, and there's not much replayability, except for achievement collectors, I guess. Since you spend all your time in a 3x3 meters guard booth don't expect breathtaking visuals, but the graphics are nice enough. Voice acting is superb, music is only some synth-pop from a beaten-up radio (with a just-a-little-bit-creepy DJ), so the atmosphere is nice too. Oh, you can watch a part of some old movie, too. Originally I gave a thumbs down though, because what happened during my first run just seemed ... totally unfair. Trying to avoid spoilers, but here's an advice that can save you from some frustration: you (and Valerie) don't have all the time in the world, so don't lead her on a sightseeing tour,
just head to the closest exit (except the one mentioned being not exactly safe) on the shortest path available
.
