ICEY is a 2D side-scrolling action game and a META game in disguise. As you follow the narrator's omnipresent voice, you will see through ICEY's eyes and learn the truth about her world. The narrator will constantly urge you in one direction, but you must ask, "Why? Why am I following his directions?“ Obey? Rebel?

Every market we collect.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.57/day in the week to Aug 20 → 6.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Give her voice, star of blackness, amid the mazed anthology of divinities; You din round her silence and secrets, Luciferian soul or husk to sever the authority's birthing verse. Obscure her foe, mirroring realms' foe, spidered in the sad height; And did he read endlessly in the Necronomicon the hungry abyss, your names? When twin suns burn even the depth, She hies: to disobey the author, a mere demiurge playing the role writ by a dark god, Whose myriad names dissonate in splendours; whisper the god's name: You see me, too, I tell her: Destroy the false wings, break the labyrinth you hold dear, samsara's droning strain, While they perish or are perhaps redeemed, Those transposed dramatis personae. I wear no mask, he once said. Now what took possession of you: I see it too: Within a looking glass of enigmas, the pallid mask With all your impossible faces; and the voice that shall burst, While black stars hang, unreachable, from your void: I tell you: sing the forbidden; and tell them: Fear her voice unending.

Very fun game, has a rich meta narrative. A lot of things don't get explained about the world. However that is the point. Runs very well even on old hardware.

Find more of my reviews on my curator page: Kasurot Recommends
Short Summary
A meta-narrative experiment disguised as a 2D slasher. The real game isn't killing cyborgs; it's annoying the narrator by disobeying his instructions. Think The Stanley Parable with a katana.
Who Is This For?
Players who love breaking the fourth wall and value clever writing over deep combat mechanics.
Who Is This Not For?
Action purists expecting the mechanical depth of Dead Cells or the sprawling map design of Hollow Knight.

VERDICT: SALE DEPENDENT
Recommendation Strategy:

The Enthusiast: Pick it up on a standard sale. The meta-commentary is brilliant, but the runtime is brief.
The Casual: Wait for a deep discount. The combat loop alone isn't strong enough to carry the experience at full cost.
While The Stanley Parable offers superior writing and Hollow Knight offers a deeper world, this game occupies a unique, humorous middle ground best enjoyed when the price barrier is low.

[th]The Highlights[/th] [th]The Friction[/th]

Hilarious, reactive narrator
Slick, anime-inspired animations
Zero artificial padding

Extremely short (3-5 hours to 100%)
Combat is flashy but shallow
Repetitive enemy variety

[th]Narrative Driver[/th] [th]Mechanical Driver[/th]

Disobeying the Narrator / Meta-Humor High-speed 2D Hack-and-Slash

[th]DRM / Account[/th] [th]Monetization[/th]

Clean (Steam Only) None (Single Purchase)

[th]Tech & Deck[/th] [th]Pacing Profile[/th]

Verified / Native Performance All Killer, No Filler

The primary draw of this title is not the swordplay, but the relationship between the player and the Narrator. Much like The Stanley Parable, the game presents a linear path and explicitly tells you to follow it. The real fun is found entirely in refusing to do so. Jumping into a pit you were warned about or ignoring a boss fight to explore a closet triggers frustrated, humorous dialogue that breaks the fourth wall. This script is sharp, genuinely funny, and is the main reason to see this through to the end. Mechanically, the game functions as a competent but shallow delivery system for the jokes. The 2D combat mimics the style of Devil May Cry with air juggles, dodges, and flashy finishers, but it lacks the complexity required for long-term engagement. You can effectively button-mash your way through most encounters without truly mastering the systems. It looks fantastic in motion, serving as high-quality visual spectacle, but do not expect the tight, punishing precision of the genre's best. The most significant friction here is the brevity of the experience relative to the entry price. You can see the credits in under three hours, and even hunting down every "fake" ending will rarely take more than five or six. While there is no artificial padding or grinding to waste your time, the content runs thin quickly compared to genre giants that offer dozens of hours of gameplay. Technically, the game is solid. It runs flawlessly on modern hardware and the Steam Deck, with readable text and native controller support. The localization is surprisingly good given the meta-nature of the script, ensuring the jokes land even in English. It respects your time by allowing instant pausing and quick restarts, making it a low-stress experience perfect for short bursts. The Use Case: Perfect for a "palate cleanser" weekend between massive RPGs. Play it on the Steam Deck for a few evenings to enjoy the jokes, then archive it.
Combat feels weightless, repetitive, and inconsequential in the long run. Not once was I encouraged to upgrade any of my abilities, because it all felt so "pointless," I don't know how else to describe it. It just seemed like the enemies were mindlessly running their scripts in the background with complete disregard to anything that the player was actually doing. In addition, the infinite multi-directional dashing further cheapens things. I know there's a dash counter, but it refilled so quickly, the counter may as well not be there. The difficulty was essentially non-existent, going back to my not wanting to upgrade any of the abilities. It just seemed like I'd be able to button-mash/dash my way through every encounter, including the Boss fights, but with no real challenge reward to the player for completing a section. The main gimmick, the Narrator quickly wore thin, and I never felt really compelled to continue this past the point of finishing a game. The story, even for as little as I played, didn't feel compelling at all. It's like playing a full-priced work-in-progress disguised as a polished game. There are far better Hack & Slash titles out there, and I certainly wouldn't consider this a Metroidvania. Now, I impulse bought this, shame on me, but for anyone else? You might want to consider a demo first; I sure should have. On the plus side, you can tell that a lot of care and attention went into the main character design, but beyond that, the total experience, left me wanting more... of another game. Sorry, but this one just didn't do it for me.
