Soft recommend, maybe wait for a sale. It's not bad, just not as good as the first. Where the original is a 10/10 game, this is a low 7/10 for me. Overall it's good, it's still hades and honestly in many ways feels like it could have just been a big DLC for the original. New abilities and weapons are generally fun and game is technically sound, no bugs I saw or issues running it. A couple of hitboxes seemed off but nothing bad. The big thing for me that keeps the game from scoring higher is the difficulty. It's significantly easier than the first. I even went back to confirm my feeling and I still struggle to reach hades consistently in the original. Here, I got to Chronos within 10 runs, and beat him on my 2nd attempt. first attempt I only died because the first time he did his full arena attack the safe zone spawned offscreen so I didn't know you could do anything about it. After beating him I asked myself "Do I really feel like coming back up here to beat him 5 or 6 more times just to see the story?" and answered no, I was done. Part of that feeling was seeing all of the reviews about the ending being terrible, so bad that They've since patched and updated the story/ending so maybe it's better now. Overall there just wasn't enough draw for me to keep coming back and repeating runs just to see bits of story.

Gameplay better than the first, story worse than the first. I really don't get all the 10/10's. Hades II is a good, fun roguelite with a below average story, I don't see how that could warrant so much overwhelming praise. 7/10
I play Hades II (and Hades) primarily for the classical mythological characters. Supergiant's cleverness in building these characters never ceases to amaze and amuse. I teach this stuff at the university level and read the sources adapted in this game professionally. I learn interesting details about the nuanced characterizations every time I play.
