The first handful of runs are underwhelming but it gets good after about an hour.
Having now finished the story of the game, I decided to leave a review. Hades 2 has been such an amazing experience for me. As a huge fan of the first game, I did not think they would be able to surpass that game quality-wise but they absolutely did. First of all, if you have never played through the first Hades you should do that first, that is a fantastic game in itself and has an amazing story that will be spoiled if you play Hades 2 first. This game is an improvement in every sense so going back to that one would be hard after playing this one. This game however improved on absolutely everything and I mean EVERYTHING from the first game. The gameplay is so complex and so addictive, especially with the progression systems that you have in place. The art is phenomenal as in the first game. The music and boss fights are GOD TIER. The sound effects, even ones like when you share an Ambrosia with someone or even when you die in the run are amazing. The voice acting is incredible. And the story is just amazing . I would be surprised if Supergiant will make another Hades, but I am excited for whatever project they have in store next. This is absolutely my favorite game that released in 2025 and one of my games of the decade so far. 10/10

An impeccable masterpiece. Perfect Greek mythology themes and art, paired with highly immersive full voice acting. Nuanced character interactions, top-tier music-missing it is a lifelong gaming regret!

A really good sequel to the first game. Melinoë's weapons and magic system offer a ton of variety, especially when combined with the Arcana Cards. The writing is great, although I still prefer the story of the first game. That said, I still prefer Zagreus as a protagonist. His nonchalant personality was incredibly charming and made every interaction fun. Melinoë is much more serious, which makes perfect sense given the story she's living through. Their goals are completely different, and they're fighting under very different circumstances, so I can absolutely understand why she's written that way. It doesn't make her a worse character just one I personally connected with a little less. The only con for me was the original ending. It was so disappointing that the developers ended up changing it. The new version is much better, but I experienced the original one too, and it definitely left a bad impression.
