This is what Metroidvania games need to aspire to. This is one of the best Metroidvania i ever play. There is too much to love. The controls feel precise and give pleasure to fight. I have these Beat Me up mechanics that are beautiful. Fighting never feels like a lug, on the contrary, it feels wonderful. Platform sections are engaging, almost to the Celeste type of engaging. I’m Mexican, and I never feel that the cultural representation was cringed or made me uncomfortable. On the contrary, some things feel very local. Humor is great, even if it is full of 2010s meme stuff, it still makes you laugh. Music is very good, the way that changes when you go to the other world feels very natural and keeps you intrigued. The story is interesting enough to keep you remembering details and carrying about the characters. It doesn't take it seriously but also most of the jokes don't feel forced and the interactions between characters are funny. It has some sexual innuendo moments that are funny. The only jokes I have, but they are a product of their time, is the goat screaming. Idk why 2010s have a fixation around this. Recently I played a metroidvania called Blast bridge and I hate it. That game was made 10 years after this one and the quality of levels and gameplay don't even scratch Guacamelee. So Metroidvania + Beat’Me Up + Precision Platformer = Perfect game. I feel so bad that there is only one sequel, which is at the same quality, if not better than this one. I wish there was a whole genre of Metroidvania + Beat’Me Up + Precision Plataformer. Years later, I still feel fresh.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 0.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Will ich meine Zeit in Zorn umwandeln? 2.
I freaking LOVE this game but also ...I hate this game. The artwork is absolute perfection. The music has been a key part of my library for years. The story is cute and I love the little gags and attention to detail throughout this game. But the gameplay, the gameplay is a challenge. As of writing this review I have just under 10hrs to complete the main story, but believe me, it felt like longer. The combos you have to hit especially towards the end, had my wrists sore. As soon as you learn a new move, they give you a new challenge and when you think you have the hang of it, they increase that difficulty x10. They've done a fantastic job of keeping things new and fresh so it never feels repetitive. If you're anything like me you'll have to stop and walk away for a while before you throw the controller thru your monitor. And if thats true, I recommend the chicken costume for getting through the puzzles. But I do honestly LOVE this game and have it on 3 platforms.
It's a metroidvania with beat 'em up combat and they go hand in hand. A lot of the unlocked abilities add movement which naturally opens up the map. There's a certain charm to the stereotypical locals and even the now dated references got a chuckle out of me. You can mix up combos without having to really learn anything and the enemy types are varied enough. My only gripe is the post game difficulty spike. Orb 3 can ♥♥♥♥ right off. Also it turns out Gold Edition isn't the definitive edition. Whoops.
'Guacamelee! Gold Edition' is an exceptionally vibrant and kinetic hybrid of the Metroidvania and 2D brawler genres, heavily infused with Mexican folklore and lucha libre culture. The game’s greatest strength lies in its seamless integration of platforming and combat, where the player’s wrestling maneuvers serve simultaneously as traversal tools and attack combos. The introduction of the "Dimension Swapping" mechanic adds a layer of spatial awareness and rhythm to both exploration and combat, forcing players to think quickly on their feet. Combined with a striking, colorful art style and a festive, high-energy mariachi-inspired soundtrack, the game delivers an addictive and highly polished arcade loop that is particularly enjoyable in co-op mode. However, the game’s reliance on precise execution and its heavy emphasis on pop-culture references can occasionally detract from the overall experience. The difficulty scaling during optional platforming challenges and late-game combat arenas can feel incredibly brutal, requiring a level of finger-twisting dexterity that might frustrate more casual exploration fans. Additionally, while the humor and abundance of gaming memes are charming to some, they can date the narrative experience and pull players out of the uniquely crafted cultural atmosphere. Ultimately, 'Guacamelee! Gold Edition' is a wonderfully creative and mechanically sound platformer that successfully injects fresh energy into the genre, even if its intense difficulty spikes and specific brand of humor won't appeal to everyone.
