ATTENTION! This is the most important info regarding Graveyard Keeper: The base game without the DLCs is a lot of grind (I have done it). With the DLCs, things are much easier and the story is actually told in full. Do yourselves a favour and buy the complete game including the DLCs from the start. And keep diggin'...! ;-)
tedious as ♥♥♥♥ to play, half the game makes zero sense how does using a whetstone repair my broken shovel? why do I need to put my log on the log shelf, then use telekinesis to remove the log from the log shelf just to cut the log? braindead devs lmao
I have tried 3 separate times to get into the game, and everytime I stop playing a few hours in. The gameplay feels solid, but it's just way too slow for my liking. I understand that some games's slowness adds to the coziness, but in here things are just slow enough to be annoying.
Tedious. Doesn't respect your time.
I was very excited to play this game as I love stardew valley/ travellers rest. I don't mind a bit of grinding or having to figure things out for myself.. But the game is sooo boring. The map is huge for no reason and feels very empty which was my main frustration with the game. I feel like a lot of the map is padded out with huge houses, gardens and fields that serve little purpose and could have been scaled down to half the size. I timed it and it takes around a minute to get from my house to the blacksmiths house. You can purchase a teleporter but there was no way to add it to my hotlist, so it was 3 clicks to teleport anywhere which got annoying. You also don't get a mount/ running ability. I also was frustrated at the lack of documentation in game. There is no information about where NPCs are, what materials are required for crafting and you'd either have to spend a long boring time searching for them, or look them up online. The NPCs are all very shallow so I didn't feel motivated to get to know them or remember details about them unlike stardew. It is no way comparable to Stardrew Valley in terms of charm, interesting NPCs or immersive gameplay. All the NPCs were forgettable, the gameplay was hollow and it just didn't feel worth the grind. It may have nearly/ all the features of stardew but it's all surface level. You can't just copy a game and slap a different vibe to it and call it a day, give me something new or original to care about.
A lot is going on within this game. So much so that it is exhausting to even learn the game. Combine that with a grindy gameplay loop and you have the recipe for something that scares away new players. There's workbenches all over the place. You have to walk back and forth all the time because you will have forgotten something you needed. The town feels like it's 20 miles away with this annoying wheat field you have to pass through again and again. The day / night cycle combined with energy comsumption is weird. Sometimes you can close a window with TAB, other times you can't. Really annoying! There are no objectives on screen so half the time you have no idea what you are supposed to do. No handholding only works if the game is well designed. You can't even see the state of your tools on screen. Why not!? I broke my shovel and lost it. I have no idea where it is. Turns out it might be laying on the ground where it broke because my inventory was (of course!) full. I have no idea where that shovel is and there's no way to tell on the map. Oh, and the map... Useless. You can't even see where you are. There's no marker. Yeah, this game is just annoying. Looks great, plays terribly.
i got this game thinking it would be okay and its safe to say i love this game...just note you will need the wiki open while playing this.
A very grindy game and does not help you find out what to do. You just loose time doing too much but obtain too little from it. There is no proper quest tracker and some quests from the NPC tab are very vague. I got it for free when they did a giveway a while back but I would not buy it with my own money. Nice artwork and the "voices" are funny sounding but the grindy natures and constant confusion prevent me from recommending it.
i tried to give this game a fair chance. the beginning is sort of fun, with unlocking the skill tree and talking to different characters. i enjoyed building up the church and the graveyard. but i felt increasingly frustrated by confusing mechanics, a lack of tutorial, and limited quest logs. i have a poor memory and would have to look up a guide to figure out what the hell i need to do to progress. the official wiki is also a mess, so that makes looking up what you need to do even more annoying. the
zombies
are an interesting mechanic, but i’m not far enough in the game to have all the resources. however, after 15 hours the true grind ahead of me became apparent. progress is slow, making money is frustrating, having to spend my time walking back and forth because i forgot what materials i need to unlock the next area is annoying. i unlocked the bigger church, and the jump to cathedral seems excessive. snake’s area seems impossible. i can’t progress with that or with the witch because
i need to trade more with the farmer so he will sell me the right seeds.
the payoff just isn’t there for me. i also experienced lagging and frame stuttering, which gave me motion sickness so bad i had to stop playing at one point. TLDR: fun at first, but not worth the grind. 5/10
