Reviews
Developed by GAME ARTS Co., Ltd. and Sickhead Games, LLC and published by GungHo Online Entertainment America, Inc., GRANDIA II HD Remaster successfully revives one of the most respected Japanese role-playing games from the Dreamcast era while preserving the qualities that made it a genre favorite. Instead of dramatically altering the original experience, this edition focuses on refining it for modern audiences through updated visuals, expanded graphical options, customizable controls, Steam achievements, cloud saves, and support for both English and Japanese voice acting. These additions make the adventure more accessible on contemporary hardware while remaining faithful to its classic design philosophy. The story follows Ryudo, a skilled mercenary known as a Geohound, whose latest assignment appears to be a simple escort mission. That seemingly routine job soon spirals into an epic journey involving divine powers, ancient civilizations, and a conflict that threatens the future of the world. The narrative stands out because of its well-developed cast and meaningful character interactions. Every companion receives enough attention to grow throughout the adventure, creating relationships that feel authentic rather than superficial. The dialogue balances humor, emotional moments, and serious themes without becoming overly melodramatic, allowing the story to maintain a strong sense of momentum while keeping players invested in the fate of its heroes. Combat remains one of GRANDIA II's defining achievements. Rather than relying on traditional turn-based mechanics alone, battles revolve around strategic timing, positioning, and interrupting enemy actions before devastating attacks can be unleashed. This creates encounters that require thoughtful decision-making instead of repetitive command selection. Learning how to exploit the Initiative Point gauge becomes just as important as equipping stronger weapons or mastering new abilities. Character progression offers additional depth through customizable skills, magic, and equipment upgrades, encouraging experimentation throughout the lengthy campaign. Even years after its original release, the battle system still feels engaging because it rewards tactical planning without becoming overly complicated. The remastered presentation enhances the game's classic environments with sharper textures, cleaner visual effects, and improved lighting while respecting the original artistic direction. Although some character models and animations inevitably reveal the game's age, the upgraded presentation significantly improves clarity on modern displays. The soundtrack remains exceptional, featuring memorable compositions that complement everything from quiet exploration to dramatic boss encounters. Combined with the option to experience the game using its original Japanese voice performances or the English dub, players have greater flexibility in choosing how they experience this beloved adventure. Beyond visual improvements, the HD Remaster introduces several welcome quality-of-life enhancements that make returning to the game far more convenient. Features such as configurable controls, numerous save slots, Steam Cloud integration, achievement support, and selectable difficulty settings modernize the experience without changing its core identity. Hard Mode offers veterans a satisfying challenge, while newcomers can comfortably experience the standard adventure. The game still reflects the pacing and structure of classic JRPGs, with a fairly linear progression and occasional slower story segments, but these elements contribute to its traditional charm rather than detract from it. GRANDIA II HD Remaster demonstrates why the original earned its lasting reputation among role-playing fans. Its emotionally engaging narrative, memorable cast, rewarding combat system, and timeless musical score continue to hold up remarkably well, while the modern enhancements ensure the experience feels comfortable on today's hardware. Although it does not completely hide the age of its underlying technology, the remaster succeeds where it matters most by preserving an outstanding RPG while making it more enjoyable for a new generation of players. It remains an easy recommendation for fans of story-driven adventures and classic Japanese role-playing games alike. Rating: 8/10

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.14/day in the week to Aug 2 → 0.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

El primero es mejor, pero no por mucho. Obra maestra del JRPG. La saga Xenoblade se plagia de aquí sin ninguna vergüenza. Top en todos los sentidos. Inolvidable. S+
This and G1 are horrible ports they run like trash consoles are better performance
Dreamcast.
Definitely dated and kind of unpolished in parts, but the battle system still shines. The story is very uneven, but there are parts that are very good and memorable. Character designs are mostly excellent, the music is pretty good (very good in some places) and there's a good sense of adventure. The combat and character customization is definitely where the game shines - it's a simple system that has enough depth to keep you thinking but it's quick to jump in and understand the fundamentals. Lots of different ways to build characters but, at least in Hard Mode, you'll need to utilize strategy and even use items in battle to win. Definitely worth picking up on sale if you have a tolerance for a bit of older jankiness - I don't think there's any other RPG that does combat quite like this.
Good and fun game overall. My only complaint is that sometimes the game crashes after a battle sometimes for no reason. Sometimes you have to let the xp, gold, and other points naturally tick down to 0 instead of spamming X to continue. So if it keeps crashing, try that and it should work.
