Reviews

great old school game
Well, as for me, I didn't like the game all that much. The world is beautiful and the lore is also quite nice. I played as a mele (2h weapon) character. Combat felt a bit clunky. This being my 1st time ever playing Gothic (didn't play the original) it was quite different and I knew (from some posts about the game) that the overall feel of the game would be different from the one you get from "modern" RPG games. But still, even though i got strength to about 107, and got expertise in 2h weapons. The combat welt weird. I can only hope for a well timed parry but I could never interrupt the enemy's attack, i.e. if I attack a fraction of a second before the enemy, I will still get hit. But if the enemy attacks 1st, I would get staggered (not to mention if 2 enemies attack me at the same time they ragdoll me easily) and can't land a hit. Got quite pissed off on many enemy encounters. The "no hints, no map markers, etc." approach was different and fun in a way. Getting gear (esp. as a 1st time player trying a mele build) can be quite difficult. Also if you happen to be hated by everyone after a certain event in the Old Camp, you just need to go back to the Old Camp (which in my opinion would be a really stupid idea irl after what happened... and I say "irl" because I guess we all try to "get into the character we created" and ask ourselves "what we would do in that situation?") and just bribe the guard at the entrance and then talk to Thorus to get the official "cya"... After that people in other camps interact with you. Hope they fix that in the future. FYI, there is a bug which basically locks you in place when you loot a corpse, so don't get too pissed off. All in all, it was a different experience with a nice story. I wanted to comment to point out how I experienced the game as a 1st time player. I get there is the "get good" phrase there somewhere but... meh.... the "swing timing" was something I learned but still felt I was at a disadvantage when fighting enemies. Mind you, I also didn't expect the combat to be on Sekiro level, but still. I've completed the game on "Gothic" difficulty and don't see myself playing it again. It falls in the "play it once" group for me. But who knows, perhaps you who are reading this will find the game to be your "cup of tea" (maybe try it first on the lowest difficulty).
Great for lovers of the gothic universe. Quite challenging at the start especially if you are not familiar with the universe.
