About

FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake is an immersive, tactical turn-based RPG, placing you in command of the awe-inspiring Wanzers – powerful military machines.
Assume the role of valiant pilots navigating treacherous battlefields, where the true realities of war come alive with every strategic maneuver. With a meticulously crafted narrative that surprises at every turn, the game showcases an extensive combat and battle system. Enjoy all these features through refreshed graphics and a reorchestrated soundtrack, elevating the gaming experience of the classic Front Mission series.
In the year 2090, the world's conflicts are fought using giant war machines called Wanzers. Huffman Island, the only place where the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) and the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.) share a land border is a hotbed of conflict.
An O.C.U. reconnaissance platoon led by Captain Royd Clive is assigned to investigate a U.C.S. munitions plant. They are ambushed by U.C.S. Wanzers, triggering a series of events that plunges the whole island into war. Royd's fiancée, Lieutenant Karen Meure, goes missing in action.
Discharged from the military, Royd sets out to investigate what happened to Karen. His quest leads him closer and closer to the conspiracy behind the incident and the powers that orchestrated it.
With dozens of characters to meet, its mature story, and non-Manichean protagonists, Front Mission is the classic of a tactical Japanese RPG genre, finally available worldwide.

It's not a well balanced game and it's very easy to become super OP. After a few missions all of my Wanzers were the exact same short weapon or long weapon set up, and the total amount of thinking I had to do was none. It prolly wasn't a bad game for it's time, but sadly that time has passed. QoL updates to smooth up game play and shorten time in between battles would have also gone a long way. It's not horrible but, eh.
I was on the fence about whether "Front Mission 1st: Remake" was a game with flaws to try, or something to avoid, but 22 missions in I got pushed over the cliff. Or rather, I couldn't go off a cliff. Or a hill. Or however it's represented on the isometric map. My team was atop an elevated area, with an enemy base at the bottom. We were all in top-equipment Wanzers for my preferences...and we could NOT descend to the base. We were stuck at the top. Maybe we had the wrong leg types? But then, how were we able to climb terrain in other missions? I retreated to town, with the intent of swapping my leg types...only to find that all the recent changes I had made to my squad's machines had been backed out, and I would have to re-equip everybody. Equipping a whole squad's Wanzers is a bunch of repetitive clicking, and I had no desire to do that all again. It was all an illustration of the basic problem with "FM1:R." It's a pile of obtuse and sometimes nonsensical battle mechanics, wrapped in side activities that are either tedious or underdeveloped. "You can't move there!" Okay, but WHY can't I? "You can't fire a weapon with range 6 against an enemy that's range 2 away and down half an elevation!" WHY? "While in the movement phase, we won't automatically show you any visual indication of what you can fire at from a destination square!" Why not? In all the development time for this piece of software, that never occurred to you? "Every weapon, including those that look like they could be sniper rifles, will have the same range as melee! Except missiles and grenades, of course." You have got to be KIDDING me. "The RNG hit system means that you have about the same chance of striking everything, including the center of mass, meaning that what you need to hit probably won't be, and every battle will resemble plinking an aluminum can with an air rifle until you get called-shot skills." I mean, I'm not playing a game with giant, shooty robots in order to experience reality, but there's a point where total defiance of common sense and a lack of fundamentals really turns a person off. And then there's the Arena, which the developers expect you to use as a money and EXP grinder. It's a zero tactics stats battle between loadouts, where you just trade attacks back and forth until somebody falls over. It takes a long time to accomplish anything, and guess what? The skill system is different per character, and randomized! You want everybody to get the "Guide" skill, so your long-range shots go where you want them to? Well, guess what? Some characters get the skill at different EXP thresholds, and some WON'T GET IT AT ALL. Not that you'll have any indication as to any of that. The plot is mostly advanced through sparse conversations. There's nothing wrong with that, especially as the original release of this software was over three decades ago, but why was the conversation system extended to the in-town bars? There's no reason to make me go to a separate screen and click through four sentences by hand. And why have all the different weapons and parts if they don't really confer significant advantages? You need lots of HP, and the ability to deliver large damage at long range. The flattening of almost every projectile weapon into a range 1 brawling tool seems like an utterly bizarre thing to commit to. That "Front Mission" grew into a whole franchise is indicative of how rough, rudimentary beginnings can blossom. But boy HOWDY, rough and rudimentary it very much was.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

"This is part of someone's agenda, and I don't like it..."
United States of the New Continent (USN).
I played Front Mission 3 back in the day and I loved it. With the intention of playing all remakes, I've started with this one and I've liked it. Not great but good.
This is how to handle proper modern remake of classic game Square Enix, not like action slop like Final Fantasy VII remake or whatever those titles naming. Preserve the original game design and gameplay, then make the graphic acceptable for modern standards. Even original soundtrack preserved alongside remaster soundtrack. Don't forget characters portrait same as original portrait from Yoshitaka Amano. PS1 remake version only released inside Japan, meanwhile NDS remake version is considered bad by me because how small double screen on NDS compared to 3DS double screen. Overall, this game is great remake of the original and step up reintroduce Front Mission as great IP which Square Enix abandoned. PS: People who complained about this game, this is remake not remaster.
