Love this game!! <3 I wasn’t expecting the most innovative or in-depth gameplay, especially since I had already played the demo, so I was actually really pleasantly surprised by how well the minigames were implemented. I especially enjoy fishing for rare fish and catching rare insects, which can be surprisingly challenging at times. The little background stories for each frog are also really cute and give them a bit more personality. That being said, I can definitely understand that this game won’t be for everyone. Personally, I really enjoy collecting insects, fishing, taking care of the frogs, and doing a bit of farming. I also love that you can use the things you collect to buy cute little items that help you discover new frogs. However, the gameplay isn’t particularly deep, so I can absolutely see how some people might find it boring after a while. But if you enjoy simple, relaxing gameplay, cute graphics, little stories, and lots of adorable things to collect and buy, I think you’ll feel right at home here. I actually like that the game doesn’t explain everything to you right at the beginning. It encourages you to explore and figure things out for yourself instead of having every little gameplay detail immediately explained. That said, I do think there should at least be a small explanation of the keyboard controls. The one thing I’m still missing is a really nice, cozy soundtrack. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys relaxing cozy games and doesn’t need extremely deep or complex gameplay to have a good time. 🐸 PLS ADD CUTE POINTSHOP PIIICS <3

Really good and cute game! Love how all the frogs have personalities, and the farming and fishing are fun mechanics :)
I was waiting for this game since the first dev log I found on youtube. I love how the concept evolved, the final product is not about another neko atsume clone, it also features very intellegently crafted world, which I simply adore. Tending to frogs could feel repetitive over time, but it's not possible to complain that there's not much to do - there's a plenty. My favourite part is that exploration and turning each stone on the island is very rewarding, if accompanied by tiny bit of brain work (i liked every minute spent on puzzles). The only downside for me is mini game for fishing - but that's completelly subjective matter, I'm not big fan of a fishing gaming overall, and here the fishing mini game requires much more engagement than catching bugs. Surelly keeps up to it's sell price - very polished and clean experience, especially from the solo indie dev. Most of bigger teams not catching up even close to level of this release.
Just wanted to put up a positive review after seeing some of the recent negative ones! I have some bias, but I'm trying to be objective here. For the record I received the game free for being a playtester (with most of my gameplay being within the past 2 weeks), and I've been following development since devlog 0. Frog Island is a cute, fun, chill little game where you meet and take care of frogs and complete quests. This game is exactly what it looks like on the tin, the tin being the trailer and steam page. The main gameplay loop consists of talking to and helping out visiting frogs to learn about them and the island, while working on repairing a sailboat to return home. This is broken up with fishing, bug catching, cooking, and other small tasks that allow you to collect stuff, better help the frogs, and learn about the island and characters. The main progression consists of unlocking more story (both of the island and frogs, and a subtle overarching narrative that reminds me of OMORI), meeting and befriending more frogs, and getting some upgrades to make things a little easier or more rewarding. This isn't for everyone but I've found it very cozy and calming, and I love completing and collecting things to fill out my compendium. I would highly recommend giving it a try if you think any of this sounds neat- you will know within the first couple hours if it is a game you will enjoy, and that is well within Steam's return window. If it sounds horrible or boring, this probably just isn't the game for you. It is not a difficult game - there are difficult specific things, like catching the rarest bugs and fish, but this is not necessary and can be made easier through practice and equipment upgrades. Most of the systems are very simple and intuitive in my experience, and explained through tutorials (I honestly found the initial tutorial a bit more hand-holdy than I would like, and I genuinely don't understand how you can unintentionally fail to learn the basic minigames and gameplay loop) which are visible on unlocking each system/minigame and can be returned to any time. Anything not explicitly explained (which isn't a whole lot) tends to be simple to figure out via basic trial and error or messing around. Just by reading dialogue and clicking new stuff you will find most of the progression. Part of the reason I like the game is that it's easy enough I can sort of turn my brain off and recharge a bit while playing it! There's plenty of genuinely difficult stuff you can do if you'd like, but this is all optional and mostly centred around collectibles and going for 100% game completion - the game isn't similar to Celeste at all, but it similarly has extra challenges that do not effect your ability to play the game casually. The main complaint aside from just not being the target audience that I have seen is accessibility. There are some places where it is lacking, and if you've got repetitive strain issues I would highly recommend holding off on the game until stuff like custom keybind mappings can get added. This is particularly an issue in the fishing minigame, which often requires repeated rapid clicking and holding on and off the mouse button. There are some other minor issues with polish, but I've not had any of them significantly impact my experience. Again, if the trailer and steam page look cool to you, I'd highly recommend giving the game a try. If they don't, then you probably won't enjoy the game - the trailer and page show exactly what you're getting, and the game won't fundamentally change when you install it. The art and frogs are adorable regardless, but if you hate minigames and relaxed gameplay you won't like it regardless. Personally I've loved the game, both playing casually at first and now trying to work my way towards 100%! Thank you for reading, and I hope you'll give the game a try! :D
I rarely do any reviews but this one deserves it. If you like the big CCC meaning cozy, cute and collecting then this game is for you. The game is super chill, fun and cute. There is no need to hurry and you can do everything at your own pace. There are puzzles and mysteries everywhere. It's fun to keep discovering new frogs and features. And the game is very cheap considering how much it gives.
i woke up as a frog after i played this

I have been patiently awaiting this game since devlog 0 and was ecstatic when it finally released. The core gameplay is simple and relaxing, the art style is cute and cozy, and the sound design is on point. However it has some issues that really detract from my enjoyment and a positive review. I'll start with the mini-game controls. They are not intuitive and feel clunky. The worst is with fishing, you must hold down the interact button, which works fine for the part where you must press x amount of times, but feels awkward to do during the two skill check types where you must release the button to click again, but you cant just let go and release otherwise the fishing meter will deplete, it would make more sense if the bar filled on its own and only decreases when one of these appear. when bug catching you click the bug, but it doesn't immediately start the mini-game, you must click again to get the cursor to start moving. As for cooking it feels a bit out of place. not having the recipe book on the same screen you cook doesn't make sense, and the ingredient selection is a bit tedious having to re open the menu and scroll around for every single ingredient also performance is quite poor. while steam doesn't show it, my laptop does have a 7700S which the game pushes pretty hard at at upwards of 80% usage. It maxes out my RX 780M iGPU when i switch to that dropping frames to as low as 20fps I do have some asks. input binding would be great. middle mouse panning would be more functional as left click as the select and pan button can be annoying, especially when placing and moving objects (cant rebind wasd to fit my keyboard. till/plant/water being on rmb instead of lmb is certainly a choice. I'm assuming the mouse controls are made with trackpads in mind, so a separate setting would be greatly appreciated.
This game is so cozy and fun, super recommend!
This game is so cute and cozy. It's captivated me so much and just the whole thing of taking care of frogs and creating your own adorable space for them to be is amazing! I get a little frustrated with the fishing sometimes though, because having to hold down the mouse button and moving the fish icon to the center AND click at the same time can be a little much. I still love this game though ♥
